LinkedIn has crunched its data set to establish the fastest growing jobs in the Indian talent market. The platform has today unveiled the Top 15 Emerging Jobs in India for 2020 and Blockchain Developer’ and ‘AI Specialist’ top the list, Digital Marketing Specialist appears on number 13. According to a McKinsey Report, India is the second fastest digitizing economy in the world. These technological shifts across sectors are sparking the need for new capability building and giving rise to new job roles. The LinkedIn Emerging Jobs 2020 Report for India highlights 15 roles that are high in demand across industries and the skills needed to procure these jobs.
The billions of interactions of LinkedIn’s 62 million members in India have created powerful insights that organizations can use as they plan the future of their workforce. LinkedIn has crunched this data to establish the fastest growing (highest growth frequency over a 5-year period between 2015 and 2019) jobs in the Indian talent market.
This year, Blockchain Developer, Artificial Intelligence Specialist, and JavaScript Developer take the Top 3 spots on the Emerging Jobs list for India in 2020. While tech jobs lead the list, non-tech jobs such as Customer Success Specialist, Digital Marketing Specialist and Lead Generation Specialist have also seen significant rise on this year’s list. As demand for tech skills grows, soft skills like team management and customer retention continue to be in demand, which signify the importance of a human touch, despite the rapid digitization of our economy.

Speaking on the launch of this year’s Emerging Jobs list for India, Ruchee Anand, Head of Talent Solutions and Learning Solutions - India, LinkedIn commented, “This year’s Emerging Jobs report is a window into the changing landscape of the Indian economy. The country is seeing a rise in digital transactions, and therefore industries are ramping up investments in Blockchain. This strong demand for Blockchain tech talent has put ‘Blockchain Developer’ on top of the list. As automation becomes a reality across industries, the ‘AI Specialist’ is the second emerging job on this year’s list. While tech jobs rule the list, it is also interesting to see soft skills such as account management and customer retention become critical, which underscores the importance of human intervention at every level of digitization.”
‘Blockchain Developer’ hits the home run
Globally, India is now 6th on the list when it comes to Blockchain patents, as per HardFork. Nearly 50% of Indian states are expressing enthusiasm towards Blockchain adoption as per the NASSCOM Avasant India Blockchain Report 2019; this is encouraging numerous industries to ramp up their investments in Blockchain projects. These projects are also driving a huge demand for Blockchain professionals in India’s public sector-a huge consumer of this technology as enterprises in BFSI and Healthcare also gear up.

Bengaluru continues to be the Silicon Valley of India; Hyderabad trails closeTech hub and Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru is the top talent hub for the creation of these jobs, and as per a report by NASSCOM-Zinnov, Bengaluru is the third largest startup hub in the world. Bengaluru is followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai; Hyderabad’s growing prominence as the next IT hot-spot has made it the second top city in India as a rising hub for tech jobs.
ITES industry sees highest demand for these roles
The report highlights 19 key industries that are hiring for these emerging jobs, of which Information Technology & Services, Computer Software, and Internet are the top 3 industries, driving the highest demand for these roles in the Indian market.
Methodology of the report:
The Emerging Jobs analysis is done on all LinkedIn members with a public profile that have held a full-time position within India during the past five years. Once the talent pool has been identified, the share of hiring and Compound Annual Growth Rate of this proportion for each occupation between 2015 and 2019 is calculated, identifying roles with the largest growth. These roles become the Emerging Jobs.
