Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh officiated the wedding of 2 employees in front of staff and his pet alpacas
From a makeshift stage in downtown Las Vegas' Airstream trailer park, Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh officiated the wedding of two of his employees, in front of a small crowd of family, friends, and Hsieh's two pet alpacas.
Hsieh made Feb. 29, Leap Day, a holiday at the online retailer, encouraging his 1,600 employees to use the once-every-four-years opportunity to cross an item off their bucket list.
For project manager Danielle Kelly and Hsieh's communications adviser Garrett Miller, that meant getting married.
One of Zappos' core values is "Create fun and a little weirdness," and the wedding, coupled with a campaign to make Leap Day a national holiday, was intended to remind Zappos employees and customers of the quirks that have differentiated the company since Hsieh took it over in 2000.
This was Hsieh's third time officiating a wedding between two of his employees.
This one was held in the Airstream park where Hsieh lives with 23 other residents. It's part of the Downtown Project, a revitalization of downtown Las Vegas that Hsieh started in 2010 with $350 million of his own money.
Hsieh's pet alpacas Marley and Triton, who live in the park with him, stood on either side of the stage during the ceremony.
