The 88th Annual Academy Awards just proved why it’s the most awaited awards show of all time by giving us an unforgettable three hours- consisting of Leonardo Di Caprio finally winning an Oscar for Best Actor, Kate Winslet cheering him on throughout his speech, Mark Rylance winning the Supporting Actor in what could be called an unexpected upset over Slyvester Stallone and
Defeating favourites Mad Max and Revenant,
While the whole of internet nodded in agreement at the choice for the Best Film and as the movie just released in Indian theatres, we thought we should give our readers five reasons they should absolutely watch this gem of a movie.
Though, trust us- you really won’t need these five reasons. At all. But then again, there's no harm in reading them.
1. The film is based on a true story which deals with sexual abuse and has a terrific ensemble cast:
A film dealing with the sensitive issue of sexual abuse needs an audience. That’s all. And, you’re in for a treat. It stars Mark Ruffalo,
2. Spotlight is one of those rare films that have managed to stay away from exaggeration and stuck to the original sequence of events making it all the more relatable:
Spotlight doesn’t take its story for granted or makes it any more theatrical for audience value. Instead it sticks to the script- which is more than enough to give you goosebumps.
3. Can you imagine a newspaper taking the bold decision of suing the church in today’s time? Well, Boston Globe did that, way back in 2001:
Imagine suing the Roman Catholic Church!
4. The film depicts the journey of Boston Globe, the newspaper that not only broke the news of the sex racket, but also made a conscious effort to ensure justice to the victims who spoke out:
The newspaper did so much more than just reporting. This is a story that needs to be told again and again.
5. Just like All The President’s Men, this film will restore your faith in journalism and inspire you to do great work:
In an era where paid news and sensationalism dominates pages and hits on websites, Spotlight is one of those movies that quietly come your way and inspire you to believe in more.
