Uber is going to approach commuters who travel by train and has sent a proposal to the Indian Railways. In a bid to have Indian passengers who travel by trains under its umbrella, Uber has approached the Indian Railways with a host of proposals, from integrating its service with Uber app and website to taking passengers to and from stations in various cities.
Uber has further suggested setting up kiosks at stations to assist passengers in booking rides, dedicated pickup and drop locations at stations and has also extended help to Indian Railways so as to upgrade their app.
This deal would add nearly Rs 150 crore as revenue for the railways as well.
"We are seriously considering this proposal and a decision could be taken soon. The revenue model with Uber is yet to be finalised,” a top rail board official told ET.
The move though, has angered local taxi and autorikshaw operators as low prices provided by the ride hailing companies would jeopardize their business.
Uber, earlier has also partnered with American Airlines to guide passengers to pick-up locations in 11 major airports in US.
