  • You can now send musical GIFs to Snapchat.
  • That's thanks to an integration with musical GIF chat app TuneMoji.
  • The integration is possible after Snap opened up to third-party developers with its Snap Kit platform.

Snapchat is adding more bells and whistles to keep people entertained and using its services.

Users can now post musical GIFs to a chat or to their own Story, thanks to an integration with third-party service TuneMoji. Snap confirmed the partnership to Business Insider.

You will need to have both TuneMoji and Snapchat downloaded in order to send musical GIFs, but it's comparatively straightforward.

TuneMoji works a little like Giphy, showing a searchable gallery of GIFs which you can set to different songs and sounds, all of which are licensed. You can then select a messaging app to share your musical GIF on, including Snapchat.

There's one drawback - you can't open up Snapchat and then send musical GIFs from inside the app. TuneMoji CEO James Fabricant said the firm was working on closer integrations with all its messaging partners, which also include Instagram and WhatsApp.

Snapchat has, until this summer, been slow to introduce third-party extras to its app, but all of that changed in June when the company opened up to developers with its Snap Kit platform.

Fabricant told Business Insider that he had met with Snap last year on a possible partnership, before Snap Kit launched. The two followed up with another meeting in May this year and sealed a partnership.

"It really resonated with them," Fabricant said, citing a shared "Gen Z" audience for both apps.

TuneMoji's integration is one of the first Snap Kit partnerships. Other early launches include Tinder, creator fundraising site Patreon, and logistics service Postmates.

TuneMoji is a London-headquartered firm with around $6 million in funding from the likes of Napster cofounder Sean Parker, Black Eyed Peas band member will.i.am, and DJ David Guetta.
