Here’s why your company should offer work-from-home option to you!

Dec 22, 2015, 17:13 IST
With the growing need for work-life balance, professionals now prefer the ‘work-from-home’ option over rigid working hours in an organisation. According to a survey done by Wisdomjobs.com, 70% of the women noted that the option played a key role in deciding if they would join the company or not. On the other hand, a good 40% of male participants also said considering all other things remain the same, they would choose a workplace that allowed work-from-home.

The reason behind this growing preference is very simple. Most men and women felt that working away from a traditional office set-up helps them do their work more efficiently along with taking care of their personal needs.

This trend has now forced companies to change their company policies. According to Ajay Kolla, founder and CEO of Wisdomjobs.com, “It is being observed that an increasing number of companies are now willing to incorporate the work-from-home option into their HR policies. That said, it is up to a particular company to find the right balance between optimizing employee well being and minimizing impact on business.”

As per market reports, while traditional sectors such as manufacturing and infrastructure have not yet adopted this practice, sectors such as IT and ITes, healthcare, education and finance have doled out this option to their employees.

However, this trend too has its own cons. Nearly 30% of working professionals felt that the option of telecommuting has resulted in a drop in the output quality while 20% of candidates believed that this trend results in communication gaps in the teams. Up to 26% people noted that due to lack of communication in person, appraisals are negatively affected by the work from home facility.

Well, whatever be the case, we at BI India office give a thumbs up to the work-from-home option.
