Women hosts have earned over $10 Billion on Airbnb

Airbnb has transformed the way we see travel and while that’s pertinent for people who stay at Airbnb, the host's lives have also forever been changed. Not only is Airbnb a great way to earn income but it is a great way to rediscover a profession that is entrepreneurial and satisfying in many ways.

Women hosts represent 55% of the Airbnb host community and have always been the majority of hosts.

Airbnb highlighted some interesting facts about women hosts and here they are:

• Using Airbnb income to support business: Over 50,000 women around the world have used Airbnb income to support entrepreneurship for themselves, launching a business or as direct investment capital for a new business they’re starting. In India, 13% of women hosts say they use their Airbnb income to support a new business.

• Typical income from Airbnb: Women hosts are earning significant income around the world. In 2016, more than 200,000 women hosts worldwide each earned at least $5,000 USD (or the equivalent in their home currency) from hosting on Airbnb.

• Using income from Airbnb for household expenses: This extra income can be especially powerful in countries with developing economies. For Indian women hosts, for example, the income from hosting accounted for close to one-third (31%) of average annual household expenditure.

• Using income to make ends meet: Over half of hosts across the global Airbnb community report they use their hosting income to help afford their home. 54% Indian women hosts report using their Airbnb income to afford their home by household composition. 33% Indian women hosts report using their Airbnb income to make ends meet

• Partnerships to empower women: Airbnb has also partnered with a number of organizations that focus on women's empowerment, including the Global Fund for Women, Vital Voices, and the Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA)

• Impacting positive interaction with the community: In India, 76% Indian women hosts tell us that hosting on Airbnb has had a positive impact on how they interact with their community.

• Airbnb Presents Low Barriers to Entry for an Independent Income Stream: Women face high barriers to entry in particular occupations, especially as major technological forces dramatically reshape the global labor market. Against this backdrop, more than 1 million women worldwide have signed up to become Airbnb hosts. When they sign up, the barriers to entry are low and they can quickly and easily begin earning income.

• 71% women who activate a listing globally, ultimately do end up hosting a guest, with an average of 3.6 booking requests per 30 days on the Airbnb platform
