Indian IT major Wipro has disclosed in its annual report that it hired 3,000 workers in the US in FY17, which takes its total US workforce to over 14,000.
The company added that over half of its workforce in the US will be local workers by the end of first quarter of next financial year.
It’s after the US decided to tighten the laws surrounding the H-1B visa programme that Indian IT companies have been upping their US employees in anticipation.
"In FY17, Wipro added two more major multi-client delivery centers in Mountain View, California and Farmington Hills, Michigan. During the year, over 3,000 local employees joined Wipro in the US and today, Wipro has a workforce of over 14,000 in the US. We are driving increased localisation and expect to have a majority of our US workforce as local employees soon," said a letter from Wipro CEO Abidali Neemuchwala, addressed to stakeholders.
