Will Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G’s price drop kill the competition? Not really!

Xiaomi lowered the price of its Redmi Note 4G smartphone in India yesterday. The phone is now available for Rs 7,999; earlier it was priced at Rs 9,999. The recent price slash has substantially elevated the Note’s value-for-money quotient in an increasingly cramped smartphone market.

The 5.5” Note 4G comes fitted with 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 Cortex-A7 Quad Core Processor, 2 GB RAM and Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) OS. Its fortes are the 13 MP primary camera and expandable storage capacity of 64 GB.

While the price cut has surely given the Redmi Note an edge, the fierce competition within the same price range and offering similar features hasn’t died yet. Let’s have a look at Redmi Note’s key rivals in India:

Lenovo A7000 (Rs 8,999)

This 5.5” beauty comes fitted with 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6752m True Octa Core Processor and Android v5 (Lollipop) OS. It has dual Standby Sim (GSM + LTE) and Dolby Atmos music system, something that Note doesn’t have. While one can get the phone cheaper, thanks to online discounts, is the only area where Note scores over it is imaging; the A7000 comes with an 8 MP primary camera compared to Note’s 13MP.

Lenovo A6000 Plus (Rs 7,499)

The A6000 Plus is the second Lenovo baying for the Note’s blood. This humble chap may be easier to take on. It has a weaker 1.2 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8916 processor under the hood, an 8 MP primary camera, and a meagre 2 MP secondary camera. Its key strengths, as we see it, are: twin speaker with Dolby Digital Plus and dual SIM.

Moto E (2nd Gen) 4G (Rs 7,499)

While a spec-by-spec product comparison would see the Mi taking home the crown, there is no denying Moto’s brand value. This little one comes equipped with 4G, Android v5.0 (Lollipop) OS and dual SIM (GSM + LTE). If you rather put your faith in the Moto brand, go for this. If not, just leave this kid alone while the adults brawl it out.
