Tech geeks and gadget lover’s eyes popped when Google showcased the Google Glass. Most of us have only seen this kind of technology in Sci-Fi movies and read about them in futuristic books. Google turned a dream into reality and made many jump in joy, only to hammer them back to ground when they revealed the hefty price tag.

Recently, Google has been bringing their latest devices to India almost at the same time they showcase them to the world. The Nexus 5 is the latest example. However, they did not do the same with Google Glass. While many believed it just might come to our shores (at least to the developers) by the end of 2013, it never happened.

So are we going to see the famous mechanical specs coming to India this year? Not likely, at least not with the price tag of $1,500. If roughly converted to INR, it will cost Rs 93,000. And one might want to add a bit of tax and VAT to it and the price instantly goes over a lakh. If Google ever plans to bring these glasses to India then they have to undergo a serious price cut.

Though the innovation from Google is pretty amazing and our short experience with them was great. We just could not get over the not-so-great price they have put on them. Our bet is on 2015, when the price is dropped to a smart phone level; then we just might see them here. There is also a possibility we might not see the current version of Google Glass coming to India ever, as reports suggest a new adaptation of Google Glass might be launched this year by the search giant.

On the other side, its rivals are already queuing up to showcase their versions of the tech-specs at CES 2014, which could carry a price tag of $500 or lower. Let’s see if they are half as good as the Google Glass. We shall know in a week’s time.
