And, just as was the case in 2008, one of Palin's kids made headlines at a time of peak national interest in the former governor.
Her oldest son, Track, 26, was arrested this week on both suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend and carrying a gun while intoxicated, police said, according to Reuters.
That came just hours before Palin endorsed Trump for president. On Wednesday, a day after the arrest, Palin cited his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and disparaged President Barack Obama, who she believes doesn't properly support veterans.
"I guess it's kind of the elephant in the room because my own family going through what we're going through today with my son, a combat vet ... like so many others, they come back a bit different. They come back hardened," Palin said at the rally. "They come back wondering if there is that respect for what their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military so sacrificially have given to the country."
In 2008, when then-Republican presidential nominee John McCain tapped her to be his running mate, Palin's eldest daughter, Bristol, who was 17 at the time, made headlines of her own for an unplanned teen pregnancy that led to wild rumors before being formally announced at that fall's Republican National Convention.
It's been a while since the US was introduced to the entirety of the Palin clan, which also includes Sarah's husband and high school sweetheart Todd, who has worked in the oil and fishing industries, daughters Willow and Piper and youngest son Trig. It's been seven years since their mother became a household name, so here's an update on each member of the Palin family.
