That's because in Stephen Spielberg's "Back to the Future Part II," Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) sets his time machine - the DeLorean - to that day to check on his future family.
Following the the success of 1985's "Back to the Future," the sequel continues Marty and Doc's (Christopher Lloyd's) time-traveling adventures as they head to the future, along with Marty's girlfriend Jennifer, to prevent Marty and Jennifer's kids from following a dark path.
Most of the original cast, including Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, returned to reprise their roles. The sequel and subsequent third film were shot back-to-back, completing the trilogy by 1990.
