Messaging app WhatsApp's CEO-cum-founder Jan Koum has posted on his Twitter accounted that the service has now 600 million monthly active users.

"Now serving 600,000,000 monthly active users. Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers..." Koum tweeted.

WhatsApp is a five-year-old mobile messaging app, which allows exchanging texts, photos, and videos. The application is likely to be purchased by Facebook for around $19 billion.

WhatsApp had announced in April that it reached half a billion users and people share 700 million photos and 100 million videos on the app in a day. When Facebook announced to buy WhatsApp, it had about 450 million monthly active users.
