Tech1 min read

Earlier in the year at the Google I/O developers conference held in San Francisco we had got to know about the Android One initiatives. Spice, ,Micromax, and Karboon were the first set of partners that will be launching smartphones running on Android One.

Android One is Google's idea to develop smartphones that will retail for $100 or less and some reports have suggested that the Internet search giant will be spending Rs 100 crore to market these smartphones.

These smartphones will run on stock Android, but manufacturers and telecom carriers can differentiate their products by adding a few of their own custom apps without diluting the Android experience.

So what we can expect at today’s event are the first smartphones under this scheme. It is already known that these smartphones will be powered by MediaTek processor.

Spice’s Android One device was leaked accidently by Flipkart yesterday. It is called Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 and is graced by a 4.5 inch display. The phone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, Mali-400MP graphics, and 1GB RAM. The phone has 4GB internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB capacity. The phone will also come with 10GB Spice Cloud storage space and 35GB Google Drive space.

The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 is priced at Rs 6,999 and will be available via Flipkart.

The Karbonn’s Anorind One smartphone on the other hand will go on sale on Snapdeal, while Micromax has partnered with Amazon India. All these three smartphones are expected to go on sale at 3:30 PM today.
