We have not received required support from existing operators: Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani took on Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea, saying they did not receive the required support from them.

While announcing the new Reliance Jio ‘Happy New Year’ offer, Ambani said Jio signed up over six lakh customers every single day for the past three months.

Ambani claimed Jio grew faster than Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype within three months, adding Reliance Jio did change the game.
Meanwhile, Ambani also took on his rivals.

“In the last 3 months, nearly 900 crore voice calls from Jio to the networks of our 3 largest competitors were blocked. While customers have shown unprecedented love for Jio, we have not received the required support from existing operators,” said Ambani.

The Point of Interconnection (PoI) has been an issue among the telecom operators, with Reliance Jio saying Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea have not provided much PoIs leading to excessive call drops on Jio network.

“Benefits of Jio’s superior technology have been denied to customers due to anti-competitive behaviour of incumbent operators,” said Ambani.

However, Airtel maintained it had rolled out additional 17, 000 PoIs to Reliance Jio, whereas Vodafone and Idea Cellular installed new 13,000 and 25,000, respectively .

The TRAI has asked the companies to amicably resolve the issue.

“Over the past months, the call block rate has come down from over 90% to nearly 20% as of yesterday,” said Ambani.
