The trailer for the upcoming film "Loving Vincent," about the life and death of Vincent Van Gogh, has been released - and it's composed entirely out of animated oil paintings.
The one-minute trailer, which we first saw on Slate, is gorgeously rendered from oil paintings created by over 100 artists and based on Van Gogh's work, offering a glimpse into the biopic, in which the characters of the painter's artworks come alive to tell his life story.
Directed by the artist Dorota Kobiela with Hugh Welchman, the film's plot is shaped by 800 of Van Gogh's letters, and features over 120 of his paintings, like these...

Created by Breakthru Films and Trademark Films, the filmmakers have called it "the world's first feature-length painted animation" in the YouTube description accompanying the film's concept trailer, which was released in January.
"Every frame in the Loving Vincent movie is an oil painting on canvas, using the very same technique in which Vincent himself painted," according to the description.
