“We intend to launch the data centre shortly and are currently in the process of gaining the requisite approvals,” Vodafone's spokesman told ET.
As per reports, Vodafone India may sell it for a higher cost as the cost is likely to shoot up after the launch of the centre.
"Even if there is a little revenue to show on it, data centres in Asia can be very valuable for strategics,” ET quoted a person as saying.
Vodafone wants to lessen its debt in its Indian arm and in this regard decided to divest non-core assets, including the data centre.
Vodafone, in 2011, had announced venture into the fixed line business along with instituting a business solutions unit that showcased global connections and offerings such as RFID tracking.
The telecom company was expecting its business to increase three-fold.
But, recent spectrum auction, IPO plans led to a debt of Rs47,700 crore.
As per reports, Vodafone's data centre is equipped with better technology.
