Video footage shows the dangerous conditions on the Missouri lake where a tourist "duck boat" capsized in rough waves, killing at least 11 people.

Footage recorded at Table Rock Lake, Missouri, shows the small craft struggling against large waves and heavy winds around the time of the disaster.

The Stone County Sheriff's office has so far confirmed 11 fatalities, including children. Five people are still missing and seven more are in hospital, according to The Associated Press.

Here are the videos, including one shot from inside a second duck boat which made it safely to shore:

"Very sad to hear about this horrible accident - prayers for all those involved and the first responders who are assisting," Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said on Twitter.

The National Weather service reportedly issued a severe thunderstorm warning in the area as wind speeds reached up to over 60 miles per hour.

The incident marks the first time in over 40 years a "Ride The Ducks" boat in Branson was involved in an accident, a company representative said.

Duck boats were originally used by the military during World War II and traveled in water and on land. Several fatal accidents have occurred after they were repurposed as tourist vehicles - including one in 2015 where five students were killed after one crashed with a bus in Seattle.

Another accident in 1999, where a duck boat sank in Arkansas,  killed 13 people.
