Former England captain Michael Vaughan thinks that the England cricket team may be rushing with the left-arm spinner Simon Kerrigan. England have picked Kerrigan in the squad for the second Test against India starting at Lord’s on Thursday.

The 25-year-old spinner made his only Test appearance in the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval and returned with rather forgettable figures of 0 for 53 in just eight overs, after which he fell out of favour with the English selectors.

"I fear for Simon Kerrigan," Vaughan was quoted as saying on Radio 5 live. "England have thrown him back into the environment of international cricket far too soon." Vaughan believed that another bad experience and Kerrigan’s international career might just be in serious jeopardy. "If the second one goes badly, he can never come back from that again," the former England was quoted as saying.

"If he goes out on Thursday and all of a sudden the Indians climb into him and it's like that situation against Watson, he won't come back from that for a long time."

"He's not pulled up any trees for Lancashire this season. Why rush the lad back in?," Vaughan said. Kerrigan has picked 28 wickets at an average of over 34 this season for Lancashire.
"Throwing him out to bowl at Lord's against an Indian batting line-up who can play spin with their eyes shut - I just think is unfair."

Despite Vaughan’s worst fears, the Lancashire spinner has said he is ready to put his nightmare Test debut behind him and show to England captain Alastair Cook that his addition to the squad for the second Investec Test against India is not really a gamble.

"But my job is to bowl spin, and I bowl it every day so it's no different. Hopefully I get a chance to show off my skills - what I do in county cricket on the big stage. If you do well against Indian batsmen you can do well against anyone," Kerrigan was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
