Uber Is About To Cut Prices In 48 Cities
The company writes on its blog that as things slow down after Christmas, it is reducing fares to "achieve better outcomes".
The cuts will go ahead in 48 of Uber's newest cities. But unfortunately for Europe, they're all in the US: Atlanta, Miami, San Diego and Detroit are some of the largest cities included.
Uber states that the reduced fares won't impact its drivers - instead, the move will increase demand and so "drivers' income goes up as well". The app-based taxi service claims that as more people book rides, it creates more efficiency for the driver, more trips, and as a result, more earnings.
Uber says on its blog: "We expect that these seasonal price cuts will help bring newer Uber markets in line with our larger ones with lower costs for riders, higher earnings for drivers, shorter wait times for both, and a better experience for all."
This isn't the first time the company has lowered prices off-season. It is, though, the first time it's done so with a guarantee for driver wages. Uber says Chicago is its cheapest city. There, it says drivers are making 12% more in fares per hour.
