Uber founder Kalanick says India will be the last country to get robotic cars!

Uber founder and CEO Travis Kalanick is in India currently and his schedule is packed with all sorts of engagements from meeting celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar and Salman Khan to celebrating the 1yr birthday of the baby that was born in a Uber to sitting down for a chat with CEO of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant. Kalanick talked about Uber’s plans for India and how it’s looking at making the service so efficient and cost effective that people in India would not want to own a car and how that will help improve the quality of air specially in New Delhi. But it was when Kant asked him about future of autonomous cars in India, Travis had a different story to tell, he said that India will probably be the last country in the world to get autonomous cars! Yes, that’s right. You are not going to see any self-driving cars on the Indian roads for a very long time. And if you are wondering why India should wait longer than the rest of the world for driverless cars, no it’s not the roads in India that are to be blamed. According to Kalanick it’s because of the way people drive in India that it will be impossible for autonomous cars to navigate. This is what Kalanick has gathered from his various trips to India including the one time when he landed in New Delhi without a visa!

Well, Kalanick says the technology of self driving cars are in place but for India instead of looking at when these cars will hit the road it has to see where it happens first.
