- The FIFA World Cup 2018 recorded a total of 115 billion impressions on Twitter.

From injuries to referee decisions, there was something to be said about everything. But then again, it’s not surprising that the most tweeted about match this World Cup was the final between France and Croatia. Twitter’s analysis shows there were more fans backing France than those backing the underdogs in the competition, Croatia. And as it turned out, France did end up taking the cup home.
But instead of semi-finals coming in as the second most tweeted about match, the next two spots are taken by the Brazilian matches against Belgium on 6 July and Mexico on 2 July. It makes sense when you notice how though the World Cup was in Russia and France won the final, Brazil was the still the team to get the most reactions on Twitter.
That being said, France was the second most tweeted about team followed by Argentina and then England.
Even the fans in Brazil were the most active propagators for the World Cup. They send in more tweets about the tournament than any other country in the world. Coming in second was the Asian nation of Japan, who lost out to Belgium by one goal in round 16, followed by England.

And where there’s football, there’s beer. Normally it’s the brands like Heineken and Carlsberg that take the lead. But, this World Cup it was Budweiser that took the cake. Unsurprising, since they were the ones sponsoring the tournament.
In India
Indian fans, though not in the top 5 globally, had their own preferences. The most mentioned teams from Indian users was England followed by France and Argentina. Even Croatia and Belgium got some attention. Of the top five teams that Indians mentioned, four were in the semi-finals.
But regardless of whether there’s a World Cup going on or not, Indians seem to prefer cricket through and through. While there was the runner up match between England and Belgium, Indians were still tweeting 20 times more about the cricket match between England and India instead.
