New York magazine published a profile of Tumblr CEO David Karp today.

It's written by Molly Young.

In it, Young tells the story of how one Friday night last May several Tumblr employees gathered at a party in Brooklyn.

Earlier that day, AllThingsD had reported Tumblr was in acquisition talks with Yahoo.

This report was the topic of conversation.

Many of the employees began the evening talking about how awful it was going to be working for Yahoo.

One guest said: "No one who works in tech wants to work at Yahoo."

Young says "party-goers who worked on the engineering side began forecasting how s----ty the company would become if Yahoo were to buy it."

But then something funny happened.

After much "wine and whiskey," the same partiers began trying to figure out how much their options were worth.

They wouldn't have to wait long. Karp announced the deal on Monday. He'd sold Tumblr for $1.1 billion.

Eventually, Young reports, Tumbler's ten earliest employees made about $6.2 million a piece.

That'll buy a lot of wine and whiskey.
