- During a press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, President Donald Trump said that there won't be a "Perry Mason" moment when asked how he will address election meddling with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
- Trump's comments come before his summit with Putin in Helsinki on Monday.
President Donald Trump on Friday predicted there won't be a "Perry Mason" moment when he addresses Russian election meddling during an upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Will we be talking about meddling? I will absolutely bring that up. I don't think you'll have any, 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me.' There won't be a Perry Mason here I don't think," Trump said.
Trump made the comments during a press conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May. Trump's is scheduled to meet with Putin in Helsinki on Monday.
He was referencing the US television show that aired from 1957-1966 about a criminal defense attorney named Perry Mason who would often prove his clients' innocence by implicating another person.
Trump has repeatedly questioned Russia's role in meddling in the 2016 presidential election and has said he believes Putin's claim that his government did not interfere in Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton. While denying Putin's role, Trump has blamed President Barack Obama for not doing enough to stop it.
However, the US intelligence community has concluded that Russia did interfere in the presidential election.
Trump's press conference on Friday came during a visit with May in Great Britain. Earlier this week, Trump traveled to Brussels for the NATO summit. Before traveling to Helsinki for his meeting with Putin, Trump will have tea with Queen Elizabeth before heading to his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland, for the weekend.
