Trump said in a tweet that the anticipated announcement showed "car companies coming back to U.S. JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!"
Ford announced in January that it was halting a $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and instead investing $700 million into expanding one of its Michigan plants. The expansion was expected to create 700 jobs.
"We didn't cut a deal with Trump," Ford CEO Mark Fields told CNN at the time. The then president-elect had criticized Ford for shipping jobs overseas to Mexico.
