  • President Donald Trump left George H.W. Bush's funeral on Wednesday and had made it back to the White House before the former president's casket had left the cathedral's grounds.
  • Trump and his wife Melania had few interactions at the service, only briefly shaking hands with former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.
  • After leaving, the president tweeted: "Working hard, thank you!" with a photo showing a 50% approval rating poll.

Trump quickly left George H.W. Bush's funeral on Wednesday, and made it back to the White House before the casket had even left the cathedral grounds.

Trump and the first lady left the funeral at the conclusion of the service, and jumped in their motorcade at 1:14 p.m., before the casket had been placed in the hearse, live broadcasts of the event showed.

The pair were home after the three-mile journey by 1:25 p.m., pool reports from White House reporters said. The 41st president's body had left the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral, where ex-presidents and guests were still gathered to see him off.

The funeral was live streamed by many US and international news outlet, so the Trump's time of departure could be worked out from the live images as well as pool reports.

Bush died on Friday at the age of 94, he was president from 1989 to 1993, and will be buried in Houston, Texas, on Thursday.

After leaving, the president tweeted: "Working hard, thank you!" with a photo showing a 50% approval rating poll.
