Donald Trump has disputed the notion that he his hands are too small, telling supporters at a Tuesday campaign event in Ohio that he's often complimented on his hands.

The Republican presidential frontrunner's defensiveness about the size of his hands came after rival Marco Rubio, a Florida senator, said at a rally that Trump has small hands.

"He's always calling me 'Little Marco,'" Rubio said. "And I'll admit ... he's taller than me, he's like 6-2. Which is why I don't understand why his hands are the size of someone who's 5-2."

The crowd laughed and cheered.

"And you know what they say about men with small hands," Rubio continued, pausing for effect and grinning as the crowd reacted.

Trump shot back at his event on Tuesday.

"Actually, I'm like 6-3, not 6-2," he said. "He said I had small hands - they're not small, are they? I never heard that one before. I've always had people say, 'Donald, you have the most beautiful hands.'"

If Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter is to believed, however, this was not the first time someone has mocked the size of Trump's hands.

Graydon called Trump a "short-fingered vulgarian" in the satirical Spy magazine 25 years ago, and Trump never seemed to get over it. Carter wrote last year that "to this day," he receives "the occasional envelope from Trump" with photos of him inside.

"The most recent offering arrived earlier this year, before his decision to go after the Republican presidential nomination," Carter wrote. "Like the other packages, this one included a circled hand and the words, also written in gold Sharpie: 'See, not so short!'"
