President Donald Trump on Monday said, "May God bless the memory of those who perished in Toledo," as he delivered remarks on mass shootings that occurred in Texas and Ohio over the weekend.

But the Ohio shooting did not occur in Toledo - it was actually in Dayton.

Dayton is roughly 150 miles from Toledo.

The shooting, which occurred in a popular nightlife district of Dayton early on Sunday, left nine people dead. The gunman was also killed.

The mass shooting in Dayton occurred just hours after an even deadlier shooting in El Paso, Texas, which left at least 20 people dead.

In his remarks on the shootings on Monday, Trump denounced both incidents and said "hate has no place in our country."

The president also said he's directing the Justice Department to "propose legislation ensuring that those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty, and that this capital punishment be delivered quickly, decisively and without years of needless delay."

The president placed much of the blame for the shootings on video games and mental illness.

"We must reform our mental health laws to better identify mentally disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence ... Mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun," Trump said.
