Tripura, the northeastern state in India is also the third smallest in the country. Tripura joined the Indian union in 1949. The literacy rates in Tripura is highly encouraging with 87.75%. Covering a geographical area of 10,491 square kilometers, the state of Tripura has a total number of 26,07,208 voters that comprises of 13,25,947 males, 12,81,248 females and 13 third gender electors.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, CPM won 2 constituencies in the state. In 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the same trend was seen with the CPM elected from 2 places. The trend was not different in 2004 general elections for the Parliament when the state gave 2 seats to CPM. Except for two Lok Sabha terms in 1989 and in 1991 when the Congress party was elected from here, the CPI has been winning the Parliamentary elections from here right from 1996.
Tripura has 2 Lok Sabha seats to give the Parliament namely Tripura West and Tripura East. One among them is a reserved seat for the scheduled tribes. 1 member represents Tripura in the Rajya Sabha. The state has 120 assembly constituencies and Tripura saw its Lok Sabha elections in March 2018. Tripura went for polling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on April 11 when the country voted during its first round of elections.
