Maharashtra ranks first in this list with five UNESCO heritage sites including Ellora Caves, Ajanta Caves, Elephanta Caves, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and The Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble.

With four UNESCO heritage sites that include the city of Jaipur, hill forts of Rajasthan, Keoladeo National Park and Jantar Mantar, Rajasthan ranks second on the list.

Gujar​at has three UNESCO world heritage sites including Rani-ki-vav, the Historic city of Ahmedabad and Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park.

With three UNESCO heritage sites, Uttar Pradesh ranks fourth on the list. These sites are the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.

Madhya Pradesh has three UNESCO heritage sites including the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi and Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka.

Delhi ranks sixth on this list with three UNESCO World Heritage sites which are Humayun's Tomb, Red Fort Complex and Qutub Minar and its Monuments.
