Varanasi offers one of the most spectacular Diwali celebrations. The ghats of the Ganges River are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps (diyas), and the skies light up with fireworks. Special rituals, such as Ganga Aarti, are conducted, creating a mystical aura.

Jaipur, the Pink City, transforms into a vibrant wonderland during Diwali. The entire city is decorated with lights, and local markets like Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are filled with colourful rangolis, sweets, and traditional decorations.

Diwali in Amritsar coincides with Bandi Chhor Divas, a significant Sikh festival. The Golden Temple is adorned with lights, and the temple complex and nearby streets are filled with devotees.

In Kolkata, Diwali is celebrated alongside Kali Puja, dedicated to Goddess Kali. The city is beautifully decorated, and grand pandals (temporary structures) are set up for the puja.

Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, is a historically significant location for Diwali. The city commemorates Lord Rama's return from exile with the Deepotsav event, lighting millions of lamps along the banks of the Sarayu River.

The capital city hosts a lively Diwali celebration, from elaborate home decorations and bursting of crackers to cultural programs and fairs. The markets, like Chandni Chowk, are bustling with people buying gifts, sweets, and new clothes.

Mumbai's Diwali celebration is a mix of tradition and modernity. From lighting lamps in homes to grand firework displays, the city is alive with festivities. Marine Drive, known as the Queen’s Necklace, shines brightly during the festival.

In Tamil Nadu, Diwali, known as Deepavali, is celebrated with a morning oil bath, followed by prayers, sweets, and bursting of crackers. The city of Madurai, with its temples and traditional celebrations, offers a more cultural and authentic experience.

Goa’s Diwali is unique because it coincides with the celebration of Narak Chaturdashi, which marks the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. Huge effigies of the demon are burnt in bonfires across the state.
