Volkswagen just revealed its new e-Golf electric car - and it's loaded with impressive tech
The 2017 e-Golf comes with a new look thanks to new LED headlights and taillights and a new bumper.
Volkswagen gave it a new 35.8 kWh battery that increases the range to 124 miles on a single charge — that's a 41-mile bump from its predecessor.
Pricing information hasn't been released yet, but the 2016 e-Golf starts at $28,995. Still, even if the e-Golf stays in that price range, that 124-mile range isn't great considering the Chevy Bolt is hitting markets in December with a 238-mile range. The Bolt will start at $36,620.
The e-Golf's electric motor has been upgraded to give the car an output of 134 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque.
The car can now reach a top speed of 93 mph, a slight bump from its previous top speed of 87 mph. It can accelerate to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds.
The 2017 e-Golf comes with an optional driver assistance package that includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, park assist, and blind spot monitoring.
The car also comes standard with forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking that can detect pedestrians.
The car comes with an optional virtual cockpit that includes a 12.3-inch virtual driver's instrument.
You can also elect to get the 9.2-inch display on the center console that will accommodate gesture control in two years.
The 2017 e-Golf is definitely a nice reboot from its predecessor, but the Chevy Bolt is probably still the best, consumer friendly option for an electric car in 2017.
