Toyota Motors India will blow $50 million on CSR

Toyota Kirloskar Motors plans to spend $50 million this fiscal year on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in India. The money will mainly go towards sanitation, safe drinking water and school education. "Toyota has already exceeded 2% on CSR activities", Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and whole-time director, referring to the limit stipulated under the Companies Act. "Toyota was performing CSR activities even before the government mandated it for companies. Toyota will increase it's spending on CSR provided profits go up."
As part of its efforts, the motor company will set up village sanitation projects in Karnataka. It is also working in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on safe drinking water. It has commissioned one water purification unit each in Vaishali in Bihar and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
The company has pledged to construct 250 toilets in Ramanagara, 125 in Varanasi and 125 in Vaishali, with a focus on girl children.
