The drug firm had reported a net profit of Rs 297 crore in the January-March quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 5,534 crore in the period under review from Rs 5,011 crore in the year-ago period, Zydus Lifesciences said in a statement. For the year ended March 31, 2024, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,859 crore as compared with Rs 1,960 crore in FY23. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 19,547 crore from Rs 17,237 crore in the 2022-23 fiscal. "Our relentless focus on patient centricity, operational efficiency, strategic investments, and execution of our diversified product portfolio continues to pay off, resulting in a significant improvement in profitability as well," Zydus Lifesciences MD Sharvil Patel said. The company said its board has approved a final dividend of Rs 3 per equity share of Re 1 each, subject to approval of the shareholders. Shares of the company ended 4.28 per cent up at Rs 1,051.90 apiece on the BSE. New Delhi, Feb 5 () Consumer healthcare firm Zydus Wellness on Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4.24 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2019. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 39.69 crore for the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, Zydus Wellness said in a regulatory filing. The consolidated financial results for the three and nine months ended December 31, 2019 include operations of Heinz India Pvt Ltd which was merged into Zydus Wellness Products Ltd, hence the results are not comparable with those of the previous periods, the company said. Consolidated revenue from operations of the company stood at Rs 332.67 crore for the quarter under consideration. It was Rs 145.41 crore for the same period a year ago. Shares of Zydus Wellness were trading at Rs 1,498.10 per scrip on BSE, down 0.32 per cent from its previous close. AKT DRR

Zydus Wellness Q3 net profit at Rs 4 cr

New Delhi, April 1 () Zydus Group firm Zydus Wellness on Wednesday said it has forayed into hand sanitizer category with the launch of its product under 'Nycil' brand in the country to meet the rising demand due to COVID-19 outbreak. The company had acquired the Nycil brand as part of its acquisition of Heinz India. The company decided to roll out this product in a record time of 12 days, as a response to the current pandemic. Nycil sanitizer consists of neem and aloevera extracts that helps kill 99.9 per cent germs, Zydus Wellness said. "We had acquired the Nycil brand as part of the acquisition of Heinz India. When we worked for extension of Nycil brand, one of the categories that came up was hand sanitizers. We had decided to launch this in 2021," Zydus Wellness CEO Tarun Arora told . However, given the extraordinary times we are living in, the company decided to prepone the launch plans. As there is a need in the country for sanitizers, it was decided to launch it now, he added. "We are in a process of rolling it out across the country. This is the first ever brand extension of Nycil. We have launched in north, and as production ramps up we are in the process of scaling it to all parts of the country," Arora said. The company plans to roll out more than 2 million bottles on a priority basis in next 30 days to be made available across India for medical help providers and general consumption, he added. When asked if the company is also looking at other brand extensions for Nycil, Arora replied in affirmative and said Zydus Wellnes is looking at valuating the timing and preparations for it. On being asked if the company is also facing problems due to the nationwide lockdown, he said, "Right now we are also facing supply chain issues because of the lockdown, but government is helping the industry to smoothen this process. It is a step in the right direction. Local governments are also helping the industry in this." COVID-19: Zydus Wellness launches hand sanitizer under Nycil brand to meet growing demand

(Eds: Adds details about COVID vaccine) New Delhi, Jul 3 () Zydus on Friday said it has received approval from authorities to start human trials for its COVID-19 vaccine contender - the second Indian pharmaceutical firm to get such nod amid a surge in novel coronavirus infections worldwide. The vaccine, ZyCoV-D, showed a "strong immune response" in animal studies, and the antibodies produced were able to completely neutralise the wild type virus, Zydus, part of Cadila Healthcare Ltd, said in a statement. This comes within days of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin vaccine getting approval of the drug regulator to start clinical trials. Over seven vaccines are being researched in India and two of them have got go-ahead to start human clinical trials just this week. Globally, over 100 candidates are being tested on humans but no vaccine has yet been approved. "Zydus has already manufactured clinical good manufacturing practice (GMP) batches of the vaccine candidate and plans to initiate the clinical trials in July 2020 across multiple sites in India in over 1,000 subjects," the company said. ZyCoV-D, developed at the company's Vaccine Technology Centre in Ahmedabad, has now received permission from the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) - Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to initiate phase I/II human clinical trials in India, Cadila Healthcare said. In animal studies, the vaccine was found to elicit a strong immune response in multiple animal species like mice, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits. The antibodies produced by the vaccine were able to completely neutralise the wild type virus in virus neutralisation assay indicating the protective potential of the vaccine candidate, it said. It further said no safety concerns were observed for the vaccine candidate in repeat-dose toxicology studies by both intramuscular and intradermal routes of administration. In rabbits, up to three times the intended human dose was found to be safe, well-tolerated and immunogenic. Zydus said, with its ZyCoV-D, it has successfully established the DNA vaccine platform in India using non-replicating and a non-integrating plasmid carrying the gene of interest making it very safe. The company claimed that the vaccine candidate has no vector response and with the absence of any infectious agent, the platform provides ease of manufacturing the vaccine with minimal biosafety requirements. It is also known to show much-improved vaccine stability and lower cold chain requirements making it easy for transportation to remotest parts of the country, it said. "Furthermore, the platform can be rapidly used to modify the vaccine in a couple of weeks in case the virus mutates to ensure that the vaccine still elicits protection," it added. Zydus gets nod for human trials of COVID-19 vaccine

Ahmedabad, Feb 15 () Pharmaceutical major Zydus Cadila on Saturday said it has initiated an accelerated research programme with multiple teams in India and Europe for developing a vaccine for coronavirus.The first approach deals with development of a DNA vaccine against the major viral membrane protein responsible for the cell entry of the novel corona virus, now called COVID-19, the company said in a statement.The plasm id DNA would be introduced into the host cells, where it would be translated into the viral protein and elicit a strong immune response mediated by the cellular and humoral arms of the human immune system, which play a vital role in protection from disease as well as viral clearance.The second approach deals with development of a live attenuated recombinant measles virus vectored vaccine against COVID-19. The recombinant measles virus (rMV) produced by reverse genetics would express codon-optimised proteins of the novel coronavirus and will induce long-term specific neutralizing antibodies, which will provide protection from the infection."There is an urgent and pressing need to develop a safe and efficacious vaccine that can prevent the spread of this deadly virus. Our researchers are working to bring a speedy solution to this most devastating outbreak in recent times," Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj R Patel said.The Novel Coronavirus outbreak, which started in December 2019, has so far infected over 67,000 people and has claimed over 1,500 lives. Zydus Cadila launches research prog to develop vaccine for coronavirus

Drug maker Cipla Limited on Sunday announced the launch of experimental anti-viral drug remdesivir under its <keyword id="9441113" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="brand-name-cipremi">brand name Cipremi</keyword>. Remdesivir is the only US FDA approved Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) treatment for adult and paediatric patients hospitalized with suspected or laboratory confirmed COVID-19 infection. In May, US drug maker Gilead Sciences extended a voluntary non-exclusive license to Cipla to manufacture and market Cipla's generic version of remedisvir called Cipremi. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted Cipla regulatory approval for restricted emergency use in the country as part of the accelerated approval process considering the urgent and unmet medical need, the company said in a statement. As part of a risk management plan, Cipla will provide training on use of the drug, inform patient consent documents, conduct post marketing surveillance as well as conduct a Phase IV <keyword id="122283" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Clinical-trial">clinical trial</keyword> on Indian patients. "Cipla appreciates the strong partnership with Gilead to bring remdesivir to patients in India. We have been deeply invested in exploring all possible avenues to save millions of lives impacted by Covid-19 pandemic, and this launch is a significant milestone in that direction," said Umang Vohra MD and Global CEO, Cipla. According to a preliminary report from the ACTT-1 (Adaptive COVID-19 Treatment Trial 1) study, a randomized clinical trial conducted with remdesivir on 1,063 patients over 60 centres across US, Europe and Asia demonstrated a faster time to clinical recovery in hospitalised patients as compared to placebo. Most of these patients were on oxygen therapy of which some were receiving high flow oxygen or non-invasive ventilation, and some were on a mechanical ventilator. The mortality rates in the study were 7.1 per cent in those given remdesivir and 11.9 per cent in those who were given placebo. In May, Gilead Sciences signed non-exclusive voluntary licensing agreements with six Indian pharmaceutical companies to boost the supply of remdesivir, the experimental antiviral drug that has shown promise in Covid-19 treatment. These companies were -- Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., <keyword id="9441116" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="zydus-cadila-healthcare-ltd-">Zydus Cadila Healthcare Ltd.</keyword>, Biocon company Syngene, Hetero Labs Ltd.; Jubilant Lifesciences; and Cipla Ltd. Media reports said that Hetero Labs Ltd has also received regulatory approval from DCGI but the drug maker was yet to make it official. Cipla said it will be commercialising remdesivir through its own facilities and partnered sites. The drug will be supplied through government and open market channels, to ensure equitable distribution. Zydus says potential COVID-19 vaccine gets DGCI nod for human trials

New Delhi, Mar 3 () Pharmaceutical major Zydus Cadila on Tuesday said it has received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to initiate Phase I clinical trials for a new drug entity intended to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. The DCGI has approved conducting test on a limited number of patients for investigational new drug ZYBK2, which is a new chemical entity (NCE), the company said in a regulatory filing. ZYBK2 has been specifically designed to inhibit a particular genetic sequence -- HLA-DRBI shared epitope (SE) -- that determines susceptibility of a person to develop Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The vast majority of RA patients carry this genetic sequence, it added. The molecule addresses high unmet medical need and has a large market potential for treatment of the disease. Commenting on the development, Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj Patel said, "There is significant unmet medical needs among patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Unlike other therapeutic strategies for managing RA, targeting upstream molecular interactions with ZYBK2 is less likely to cause adverse events." He further said: "This clinical trial will seek to find answers if inhibiting HLA-DRBl-mediated effects could provide a safe remedy for treating this debilitating disease." The company said nearly 13 million people are estimated to suffer from RA, which is a progressive, systemic autoimmune disease that affects at least 1 in every 100 people worldwide. Zydus Cadila gets DCGI nod for Phase I trial of new drug aimed to treat rheumatoid arthritis

Surpassing its domestic and global peers, Cadila Healthcare has come up as the frontrunner to acquire the generic sterile injectables business of Ahmedabad-headquartered <keyword id="356962" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Claris-Lifesciences-Ltd">Claris Lifesciences Ltd</keyword> (CLL). 
 
As per sources, the last minutes negotiations are underway between the both companies, including tax and other financial matters. A formal announcement is expected next month as the deal has not yet closed. 
 Cadila Healthcare, the <keyword id="270579" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Zydus-Cadila-Group">Zydus Cadila Group</keyword> flagship, is likely to pay a significant premium, valuing the company between Rs 3,100 crore - Rs 3,400 crore. 
 
For 12 months ending December 31, 2014, Claris Lifesciences business reported revenues of Rs 405.6 crore and EBITDA of Rs 149.4 crore (37% EBITDA margin). 
 
Presently, the market cap of parent Claris Lifesciences including all the different businesses is Rs 1,793 crore. 
 
The Cadila Healthcare spokesperson told ET, as a matter of policy, the company does not comment on market speculation. A Claris spokesperson however denied any such development. 
 
Economic Times in February first reported about the business being put on the block. 
 
The financial daily reported the possible deal underscores amplified interest in the business in the backdrop of a global shortage of injectables -- drugs that are delivered through vials, syringes and bags, as well as pumps. The supply problems have driven many transactions both in India and overseas, including Pfizer's $17 billion takeover of Hospira, earlier this year. 
 
Pankaj Patel-led Cadila had competition from domestic rivals like Lupin who were also pursuing the opportunity to buy the asset, but valuations apart, comfort between the two Gujarat based entrepreneurs is said to have provided extra comfort to Arjun Handa, the promoter, vice-chairman &amp; managing director of CLL. 
 
ET reported both Patel and Handa are from Ahmedabad and have been old industry associates. Even global players like Pfizer, Amneal and Novartis, among others, were initially in the fray, added sources. 
 
One of the sources told ET, if talks with Cadila breaks down at the wire then the prospects of Lupin, another potential contender, to walk away with the asset could improve considerably. 
 
Cadila, among the top five pharmaceuticals companies in the country in terms of revenues --- these amounted to Rs 8,651 crore for year ended 31 March 2015 ---has been acquisitive for a while having executed 17 M&amp;A deals since 1995.

In the first quarter of FY24 however some of the US market pricing pressures are easing, making up for the slump in domestic sales. “Q1 FY24 turned out to be a tale of two divergent performances as US delivered across the board beat while domestic business, specifically acute, saw weakness in June. Price erosion came in at high single digit in US versus mid-teens last year reflecting in better US revenue growth and profitability,” said a report by YES Securities. Drug shortages, channel realignment and financial as well as regulatory woes of competitors seems to have helped curb US market price erosion in Q1 on a quarter-on-quarter, say analysts. The US market has been dented in the last few years for many reasons including pricing pressures — like supply chain disruptions, and a massive delay in approval of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) leading to fewer generic launches in the US. However, the ability to launch the generic version of a cancer drug gRevlimid in the US abated some of the concerns. Dr Reddy’s generated sales to the tune of $125 million from this generic in Q1 while Cipla, Zydus and Sun Pharmaceuticals reported gRevlimid sales between 40-60 million. “We believe the earnings support from gRevlimid is expected to drive the US base business and abate pricing pressure for the coming two years. Moreover, US FDA inspections are in full swing and the accelerating pace of new launches will improve outlook for US business in FY24,” J M Financial. Lupin and Zydus Life benefitted from exclusive launches of gSuprep and gTrokendi. Alkem however said that there has been no change in domestic sales even in July, August is expected to provide some quality on the same. Sun Pharma, however, is an outlier with a good performance in the domestic business as it boosted its sales strength along with new launches. It launched 105 new products in FY23 as compared to 77 new launches the year before. “Sun’s India business has grown at 11% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) over FY20-23, driven by volume, price and new launches.
