With schools, hospitals and therapy centres closed during the 21-day nationwide <keyword id="91743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lockdown">lockdown</keyword> in India, everyone is facing challenges but children with special and additional needs are the hardest hit. Ten-year-old Dimpy and 6-year-old Bani, both sisters suffering from a group of disorders called <keyword id="53986" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cerebral-Palsy">cerebral palsy</keyword> are finding it difficult to cope up with the new challenges that the lockdown has thrown upon them. Having 90 percent disability, they neither can walk nor can they speak, listen or even sit properly. Since one-to-one therapy session is required in such cases, both girls are not able to go for the same. Their mother Pinky is facing the most difficult time during the lockdown. Speaking to IANS, Pinky, said, "Life is already difficult for me with both my girls, having cerebral palsy. This lockdown has mounted the problems even more. My daughters need to remain in diapers for the entire day, therefore, I need more diapers for them than normal children. But during this lockdown its supply is interrupted. It is one of the essential commodities for my girls." She also said, "They cannot ask even for food, if they are hungry. I have to give them food many times a day as per their routine but with limited supply of edibles in my locality, I am not able to feed them properly." Pinky's problems do not end there. She said that she could not renew the disability certificates of the girls as the date on which it was to be renewed, fell in the lockdown period. "My husband ran from pillar to post for their various tests for the entire year. Carrying two grown up girls was not easy for him. The certificate is issued based on many tasks including I.Q. test. But when the date of renewal came, the hospital which has to issue the certificate, is closed. These girls are not getting financial help which they used to get and I have no clue when will the certificate be renewed," she said. Pinky said that she was also facing problems in getting ration and water from the tanker that the government sends. "I cannot leave home at all because my daughters need me every minute. Therefore, I don't work also. I am facing financial difficulty as my husband is also out of work due to the lockdown. Therefore, this has posed extreme challenges for me," she said. Abhiraj, a 4-and-a-half year old boy who is also suffering from cerebral palsy, complains to his mother about severe muscle pain as he requires special exercises owing to his physical condition. "Since the lockdown, he has not gone for therapy," his mother Preeti told IANS, adding "telemedicine in his case is also not very helpful as the exercises need to be done in person and not online or over the phone." "My son largely depends on exercises that his therapist makes him do. It needs space but I stay in a rented one room set which is very small, he is not able to follow his routine. Therapy centres and hospitals are closed. He is not doing those body movements and complains of severe muscle pain," said Preeti. Also, the little boy is not able to understand why he has to stay at home for the entire day. He is showing anxiety and frustration as he has to remain indoors. "It is very difficult for me to make my son stay at home all the time. He insists to take him outside. Earlier, he used to go to school where he was happy but now schools are closed. He has become very irritable and anxious," said Preeti. She was planning to go back to her hometown in <keyword id="91172" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Etawah">Etawah</keyword> but could not go due to lockdown. "I planned to move back to my home town in Etawah, at least I would have my family members and food there. My husband is a daily wager. I have no money, as he is out of work. It's very expensive to take care of a special child. This lockdown has broken our backbone. Not a penny is coming home. I don't know how to fulfill needs of my son when I have no money at all." Child rights activist and founder of NGO Astha which works for children with disabilities in urban slums of South Delhi, <keyword id="9022340" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="radhika-alkazi">Radhika Alkazi</keyword>, told IANS, "It is very important to highlight the problems these kids are facing right now. There are problems with their medication especially for those on long term medication or having chronic medical conditions like epilepsy or Thalasemia. The biggest issue is food. Most of their parents work as a daily wager in the unorganised sector. Even if there is food distribution during the lockdown, how much can one carry if there are two kids with disability in one family?" She also added, "they are anyway isolated mostly but in this kind of lockdown when they are totally locked in the house without much physical movement, it is very difficult for them as well as for their families." But after Denver sent the game-winning field goal through the uprights, Prince was informed that his wager would not be paid out. Instead, FanDuel offered him approximately $500, along with tickets to three Giants games."They said their system had a glitch in it and they're not obligated to pay for glitches," Prince told News 12 New Jersey. Prince said that he planned on getting an attorney to help with the matter, and was not inclined to accept FanDuel's offer of tickets and a $500 payout. "The other guy said, 'You should take what we give you because we don't have to give you [anything] at all.' I said, 'Wow, for real?'"FanDuel responded in a statement, saying it was well within its rights due to the glitch."A small number of bets were made at the erroneous price over an 18-second period," FanDuel said. "We honored all such bets on the Broncos to win the game at the accurate market price in accordance with our house rules and industry practice, which specifically address such obvious pricing errors. We have reached out to all impacted customers and apologized for the error."Different sportsbooks handle situations like this differently. As Purdum notes, in the United Kingdom, mistakes in the odds are referred to as "palpable errors" or "palps" and usually result in the sportsbook voiding the bet.In Las Vegas, things can work a bit differently. It's unfortunate when these situations come up, but it's impossible to avoid them. We reduce those situations as much as we can, but once that ticket is written, it's live."For FanDuel, the company's official rules state that when "a blatant or palpable error is made in offers made," bets may be settled at the correct price at the time at which the bet was placed. That said, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement is investigating the situation, according to ESPN, and the current regulations in the state say "A wagering operator shall not unilaterally rescind any wager ... without the prior approval of the Division."While no book likes to pay out $82,000 on an error, the decision to void the bet has led some lousy PR for FanDuel.  The ayurvedic consumer goods company Patanjali, founded by Baba Ramdev, has given ₹25 crore to the PM CARES Fund and set up five quarantine centers for those who have testing positive for Coronavirus. Indian tech giant Infosys, will be donating ₹100 crore through the Infosys Foundation, the company's arm for philanthropic efforts. Branches of government doing their part National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials are putting up one day's salary towards PM CARES. Coal India Limited (CIL) has pledged ₹220 crore and NLC India has promised ₹25 crore. All of Indian Railway's employees have pledged one day's salary to the newly-formed Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund, according to union minister Piyush Goyal. Collectively, the contribution will amount to ₹151 crore from Indian Railways Ministry. PV Sindhu, Mary Kom, Bajrang Punia and other sportspersons donate to help fight Coronavirus pandemic

By Trisha Mukherjee New Delhi, Apr 11 () The devastating impact of coronavirus crisis was evident in the pictures – hordes of homeless migrant workers on long marches back to their villages; many urban slum dwellers, living on the edges of the society in normal times, left destitute, clamouring for food. But it has not been all gloom and doom. Amid the crisis has risen an outpouring of empathy from ordinary people across India led by the civil society, who have stepped up to help migrant labourers, domestic helps, construction workers, and small scale workers who were left jobless because of the nationwide lockdown. From every part of the country, Indian are coming forward with donations, big and small, on crowdfunding sites, with online transfers, and even good old cash left in envelopes at their gates."People have been incredibly generous," said Rohini Malur of Bengaluru-based NGO Hasiru Dala, which has raised a whopping Rs 38.27 lakh in just 17 days, surpassing its goal of Rs 36 lakh. Malur said the donors gave an average of Rs. 3000 each.Hasiru Dala used crowdfunding to collect money for providing dry ration kits to ragpickers and daily wage labourers in six cities of Karnataka -- Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Davanagere and the twins cities of Hubli-Dharwad. The kits contain 25 kg rice, 5 kg lentils, 2 litres of cooking oil, salt, chilli powder, 500 grams of groundnuts, 500 grams jaggery and soaps. Worth Rs. 1600 each, the kits are expected to last for 21 days. "The families we have identified are the most vulnerable and need immediate support. They have no BPL/ration card, no public housing, and no predictable income," Malur told . Hasiru Dala had identified 3,500 vulnerable families but has managed to help 4,661 families since March 24, the day the lockdown was announced. Besides depending on "a little" funding from corporate houses, and seeking donations on their website, Hasiru Dala also tied up with the crowdfunding site KETTO, which has offered to waive off its service charges completely. According to the International Labour Organisation, the COVID-19 crisis has the potential to push around 40 crore informal sector workers in India deeper into poverty, with the lockdown and other containment measures affecting jobs and earnings.A similar drive is being conducted by Project Potential in Bihar, which is aiding daily wage workers who have returned from tea gardens, farms, and brick kilns by raising money on crowdfunding site Give India, which also has waived off its fee."With the nationwide lockdown daily wage labourers are without a livelihood. Many of these families lack ration cards or bank accounts, and even for those who have them, ATMs are often inaccessible or lack money once people reach them," Abodh Kumar of Project Potential told .To encourage the villagers, especially the children to stay indoors, Project Potential has also included a board game of Ludo in the aid packet"Most of the population is tribal/adivasi. It is difficult to keep the children from going out. So we thought Ludo would help keep them engaged indoors," Kumar said. An awareness program run separately by the group on WhatsApp goes to 265 villages in the state, disseminatign precautionary and preventive information about the novel coronavirus in the local dialects of Surjapuri, Rajbanshi and Santhali. Individuals too, have stepped up to do their bit for those working in informal sectors, whose services help keep the middle and upper class households functional. Ameena Talwar, a resident of Delhi's posh Vasant Kunj area has been raising money from the people in her locality for the last two weeks to first distribute ration to their domestic help such as maids and drivers, as well as neighbourhood gardeners, sweepers and construction workers camped at half-finished projects. "When I decided to do this, many people told me it wouldn't work, but the response has been overwhelming. People keep money in envelopes outside their gates to ensure social distancing, and I collect it from there. I managed to raise Rs 2 lakh in a week," Talwar said. She first created packets worth Rs 800 each containing 1 litre oil, salt, sugar, wheat flour, dal, biscuits and five bars of soap. To expand her relief work, she has now tied up with the NGO Prabhaav Foundation to also reach out to those living in the slum across the road from her neighbourhood. The new packets cost Rs 525 each and have the same things except the flour has been reduced from 10 kgs to 5 kgs and 2 kgs of rice has been added.Several former and current students of Kolkata's Presidency and Jadavpur Universities have also come together to create the Quarantined Student Youth Network that has undertaken a food distribution drive to help migrant labourers in Delhi and Bengal who have been hit the worst by the lockdown."We have got money from people both within and outside the country, and they have been generous. I managed to raise 1.5 lakh within a single day," Debojit Thakur, a PHD scholar said. The Gurgaon Nagrik Ekta Manch (GNEM) has been feeding cooked meals to nearly 25,000 people, including daily wagers, industrial workers, construction labourers, domestic workers, and housekeeping staff every single day since March 27. Its temporary kitchen in Gurgaon's Shri Ram School produces nearly 15,000 meals every day. The rest are provided by different contributors including food delivery app Swiggy, said Saba Dewan from the GNEM."We are also providing ration kits which would last a family of five for about 10 days. Hope in coronavirus times: Help pours in for those hit by lockdown

This means that the state has 1,985 total cases of Coronavirus, out of which 717 are active, 1,230 have recovered and 25 patients have succumbed to the deadly disease. Dehradun has reported 507 cases and Nainital has reported 348 cases. "In a meeting with the Chief Minister it was suggested by the top officials, that people do not adhere to social distancing, especially in fruit and vegetable markets. Moreover, in smaller towns people in large numbers are hanging around on streets and other public places. It has been decided to enforce the laws strictly to maintain the norms of social distancing. Uttarakhand Coronavirus cases rise to 1,985, 25 dead, 1,230 cured till June 16

theScoreJohn Levy.<ul class="summary-list"><li>Of all the media companies pouncing on the emerging legal sports-betting industry in the US, Canadian sports-media company, TheScore, has been among the most aggressive.</li><li>TheScore created and launched it own sports-betting app in New Jersey last fall, instead of investing in or partnering with established betting companies the way rivals Fox and CBS have.</li><li>Its CEO John Levy broke down for Business Insider precisely how the little-known Canadian media outfit is leveraging sport betting to make a name for itself in US market.</li><li>He also talked about how the company plans to make money from sports betting.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime?module=article&amp;area=summary">Click here for more BI Prime stories</a>.</li></ul>In 2018, after the US Supreme Court struck down a federal ban on sports betting, digital-media company TheScore seized on the opportunity to propel its little-known brand through the emerging legal sports-gambling industry.The sports news and information company took one of the most aggressive approaches to sports betting of any media company. It poured millions into becoming a mobile-betting operator. And, rather than invest in or partner with existing gaming companies, like Fox and CBS have, theScore created its own platform, licensing some of the tech and building the rest so that it could be integrated into existing media app.TheScore hoped the investment would make the company, based in a Canada, a US name in sports, and diversify the digital-media company's revenue beyond advertising."We had a real decision to make: do we do what we did in the old poker days and in the DFS days, which is just take all this silly money that all those guys were spending on advertising?" John Levy, cofounder and CEO of TheScore, told Business Insider of the company's thinking at the time. "Or do we ... take the bull by the horns and actually be the sports-betting operator?"TheScore Bet, the betting platform, launched in the US state of New Jersey in September, ahead of the NFL season. It's slated to roll out in states like Indiana and Colorado later this year.Levy broke down for Business Insider precisely how the digital-media company built the sports-betting platform, and how it plans to make money from it."Nobody knows us except the people who use us," Levy said. "The opening up of betting all across the US will be a catalyst for us to extend our brand."<h2>Walking away from a possible windfall of ad revenue</h2>Levy said TheScore plunged into sports betting after its own internal analysis showed that roughly half of its mobile-app users - averaging 4.3 million monthly active users as of November 2019 - were actively betting on sports.Most of TheScore's user base was also in the US, where more states were legalizing sports gambling. The US makes up 60% to 65% of TheScore's business, Levy said.Levy saw an opportunity to build a betting platform that could tie into TheScore's sports-media app, fueling that media business and vice versa.While margins on sports betting are thin, TheScore thought its media business could help it acquire gamblers at a fraction of the cost rivals like FanDuel and DraftKings were spending to acquire customers. The betting business could, in turn, boost users and engagement for the media app."We're getting at this sort of symbiotic relationship between the two apps that we think could be the breakthrough that really gets our brand front and center in the US market," Levy said.Shares of TheScore, which trades publicly in Canada, have risen steadily since the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA, the federal ban on sports betting, in May 2018. The stock, which has a market capitalization of $229 million was trading at $0.63 on Wednesday, a 386% lift from two years earlier.But getting into the business of taking sports bets also meant losing out on the potential ad revenue that could come from gaming companies trying to reach sports fans.Levy said he didn't know how much TheScore could've made from sports-betting advertising. But he said the company used to bring in millions per year from daily-fantasy-sports advertisers, and that sports-betting advertisers might've spent more."It would not have been an insignificant amount, but we walked away from that because that's short lived," Levy said. "We're not in the business of just building shiny objects ... We're in the business of trying to do things differently and, we also thought that there was an opportunity to build a better product and better betting product than what was out there."<h2>Building the betting app</h2>Building the sports-betting business was pricey, laborious, and time consuming.Getting regulatory approval to take bets, alone, was "tedious" and "very costly," Levy said. Every state has different processes. Some required TheScore's top executives and directors to provide as much as six years of their personal financial information, among other details. The company had to hire lawyers and accountants to handle it all. "Probably one of the reasons that a lot of the other media companies don't want to get involved is because they don't want to go through this scrutiny," Levy said. "They're trying to generate business, but they don't want the hassle of having to go through the whole process."TheScore had to strike deals with the casino and gaming companies that hold the licenses to operate online-betting platforms in each state. It secured <a href="https://mobile.thescore.com/2018/12/thescore-announces-plans-to-launch-mobile-sportsbook-in-new-jersey/">access to New Jersey in December 2018</a> through a deal with Darby Development LLC, the operator of Monmouth Park Racetrack. It also <a href="https://mobile.thescore.com/2019/07/thescore-and-penn-national-gaming-enter-into-strategic-multi-state-market-access-partnership/">inked in July</a> a 20-year a deal with casino company Penn National Gaming, which recently <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-barstool-sports-deal-with-penn-national-sports-betting-plans-2020-1">took a stake in Barstool Sports</a>, to access 10 other markets. And it got access to the Colorado through a <a href="https://mobile.thescore.com/2020/01/thescore-secures-market-access-for-mobile-sports-betting-in-colorado/">deal with Jacobs Entertainment</a> in January.TheScore also created the betting platform itself. It licensed the underlying technology from gaming supplier Bet.Works, which also helped TheScore make connections in the industry. And it built the user interface itself so it could be tied into its media app.To pull it off, TheScore more than doubled its product-development team from 40 full-time employees in May 2018 to 90, the company said. That team was dedicated to building TheScore Bet for roughly six months, Levy said. The company's overall headcount swelled to 210 employees as of August, up from 192 a year earlier.All of this came with rising costs. Last fiscal year, TheScore posted a roughly $6 million increase in staff, product development, and other operational expenses that were largely tied to the betting platform, Business Insider found by analyzing company filings.The company <a href="https://mobile.thescore.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Q1-F2020-MDA.pdf">also attributed</a> about $4.9 million in sales and marketing, and tech and operational costs mainly to TheScore Bet app, during its most recent quarter ending November 2019.Levy said the effort and cost were worth it. The way TheScore's media and betting apps feed into and promote one another set the betting platform apart, he said.TheScore Bet's registered users in the state of New Jersey can build bets within the company's media app while perusing sports stats, news, and analysis, before placing them on the betting app, for instance. The media app also has a Bet Mode that surfaces more gambling-related data and content for users."That's really where the special sauce is in the context of the user experience and what we're going to be able to offer," Levy said.theScoreTheScore's media app (left) and betting app (right).<h2>Early results</h2>Sports betting as a business is a gamble. The key to profiting from it, Levy said, is to hold onto 5% to 9% of all the money that's being wagered through a platform."The whole sports-betting business, without being specific to us, is based upon trying to achieve a hold of somewhere between 5% to 9%," Levy said, adding that threshold can vary and will likely change over time as the US audience for sports betting grows. "When you put that against the billions and billions of dollars that are wagered, it's a very exciting business and that's why you see everybody trying to get into it."During the first quarter TheScore Bet was live, TheScore didn't hit that marker. It generated $8.8 million in handle, or money wagered, and held onto $242,000 in gross-gaming revenue, or about 2.8%, after paying out winners. After promotions and unsettled bets, TheScore closed the quarter with negative $26,000 in net gaming revenue.The company <a href="https://mobile.thescore.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/theScore-Q1-F2020-Conference-Call-Transcript.pdf">told investors on its latest earnings call</a> that it expects its share of gross-gaming revenue to grow over time as it takes in a larger volume of bets and rolls out in more states. Taking on more bets could help balance out big payouts to high rollers, who also tend to be early adopters of betting platforms. TheScore also hopes the cross-promotional strategy with its media app will boost the amount of betting per user, and make it less reliant on the promotions that can eat away at net gaming revenue.The company, which makes most of its money from advertising, also brought in about $300,000 less in overall revenue, for a total of $9.2 million, partly because it limited some ad inventory in New Jersey and surrounding areas where it was was promoting TheScore Bet.But Levy said there were encouraging signs. TheScore's thesis that its media business would fuel the betting arm appears to be proving true. About 75% of users who placed bets during the quarter on the betting app in New Jersey came from the company's media app, Levy said.Engagement also increased on the media app. Average monthly sessions within TheScore's media app rose 11% year-over-year during the first quarter, the company reported. Users opened the app more than three times per day on average.Levy said TheScore Bet's customer acquisition costs were likely "not even close to half" of what its competitors are paying, but declined to share specific numbers. DraftKings, which recently announced plans to go public, <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1772757/000110465919075296/tm1927286d1_ex99-2.htm">reported</a> in December that it paid, on average, $406 per new customer acquired in New Jersey during the first half of 2019, by comparison.Nikhil Thadani, equity analyst at Mackie Research Capital, which has a "buy" rating on TheScore, told Business Insider it's too early to estimate how much revenue TheScore could generate from sports betting. He expects the betting business to help boost average revenue per user.Thadani will be closely watching the volume of bets theScore Bet brings in, how quickly it launches in other states, and how it impacts engagement and revenue per user, to see if the platform is paying off."This is the catalyst that John has been waiting for for a number of years," Thadani said. "They've done a good job proving they can build and launch this thing. Now the question is how many more states can they launch in ... and how does that translate into revenue and cash flow?"TheScore Bet is slated to launch in Indiana and Colorado this year, pending regulatory approvals. Levy said his goal is to rival market leaders FanDuel and DraftKings in the coming years."I want to be one of the top," Levy said. How brands are contributing to the fight against Coronavirus

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Facebook has found itself in&#xa0;the middle of a firestorm of criticism over allegations it is suppressing conservative news.<a href="http://gizmodo.com/former-facebook-workers-we-routinely-suppressed-conser-1775461006">Reports from Gizmodo alleged</a> that the curators who control the "Trending" bar on the side of the social network routinely choose not to feature conservative topics and news outlets, while favouring others like activist movement Black Lives Matter.<a href="https://www.facebook.com/tstocky/posts/10100853082337958">In a Facebook post published early Tuesday morning</a>, the social network's VP of search Dan Stocky finally denied the reports, writing that "we take these reports extremely seriously, and have found no evidence that the anonymous allegations are true." (Scroll down for the full statement.)Whatever the truth of the allegations over conservative suppression, the incident points to a broader truth - that Facebook is becoming more and more like a traditional media company, and needs to embrace the thorny issues that come with the territory.There may not be guidelines telling curators not to select certain topics, but people have implicit biases. It's natural, and to an extent unsurprising. Curators will necessarily pick topics which they know about, and frame them in a way that is reflective of their mindset. <a href="http://gizmodo.com/former-facebook-workers-we-routinely-suppressed-conser-1775461006">The Gizmodo article discusses exactly this</a> (emphasis ours):"Depending on who was on shift, things would be blacklisted or trending," said the former curator. This individual asked to remain anonymous, citing fear of retribution from the company. The former curator is politically conservative, one of a very small handful of curators with such views on the trending team. "I'd come on shift and I'd discover that CPAC or Mitt Romney or Glenn Beck or popular conservative topics wouldn't be trending because either the curator didn't recognize the news topic or it was like they had a bias against Ted Cruz."This is precisely what happens in any media organisation: Writers and editors gravitate towards subjects of interest - and the combined weight of these biases give the organisations their (deliberate or otherwise) slant, from the left-leaning Guardian to the populist Daily Mail.The big difference is that Facebook doesn't frame itself as a media company - and generally tries to avoid the necessary debates about bias and slant that media companies have to tackle. Facebook's Trending section is presented as a neutral reflection of organically popular stories on the site: I'd wager that many Facebook users don't even realise there are human curators.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div><a href="http://fortune.com/2016/05/09/facebook-media-principles/?curator=MediaREDEF">But as Mathew Ingram writes over at Fortune</a>, these problems are now catching up with the social network. "Facebook routinely says that it doesn't see itself as a media entity, and doesn't see its algorithmic choices as being of any concern to anyone outside the company-even when those choices help influence the way people think and behave, like whether they decide to vote and how they see political issues ... At some point, however, Facebook is going to have to grapple with these kinds of issues, or at least acknowledge that they exist and that people have a right to be concerned about them."One potential remedy is to do what newspapers and media organisations have done for decades - use bylines and mastheads.The vast, vast majority of the media business credits authors and producers on stories, as well as the organisation's editorial leadership. This allows for public accountability. Sure, the writer might be biased - and many writers embrace their biases, arguing against the falseness of forced neutrality - but the byline means there is editorial accountability.If Facebook adopted an optional masthead that showed who has curated topics, and which editors were online, it wouldn't solve the problem of unconscious biases. But it would alert users to them, allowing them to be better informed. It would be an acknowledgement that yes, the social network is grappling with these issues, and it's owning up to that.However, to do so would require Facebook embracing its role and responsibility as a dominant media organisation to a degree that is has previously shown no inclination to do. "The thing that's important to remember is we can't start an editorialized feed," <a href="http://time.com/4323647/facebook-trending/">Facebook News Feed director Adam Mosseri told Time last year</a>. Facebook could solve the controversy over 'censoring' conservative news with one of newspapers' oldest features

Our last two editions introduced this 6-part series and talked about designing content for each realm of audience (the message). Today we will talk about the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=technology&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">technology</a> needed to reach those audiences (the medium). 
 
Different technological tools can be leveraged to find customers based on their or/and interests. It can also lower the stress on time and the use of each platform can vary depending on the nature of the event. 
 
The RIGHT platforms

However, each category of business may gain more returns from their focus on other platforms. For example, some businesses depend more on the look of their products to bait customers, like a flower shop, a bakery or a fashion store. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=instagram&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Instagram</a> works best for these. In the food industry, all restaurants in India need an active Zomato page, but all restaurants targeting expat populations must up their TripAdvisor game. For an exclusive club, old fashioned emailed newsletters work the best. WHERE are the customers 
In the case of the neighbourhood bar or an organic food store, a geo-targeting strategy can help you make sure that everyone within even a 3 kilometer radius sees you in the social feeds. Be sure to check out the “Promote in your neighbourhood” options on Facebook. This works for hyperlocal businesses as the aim is to incorporate your services into your customers daily lifestyle, where they like to keep commuting at a minimum. However, for a fancy new nightclub in town that has suddenly become the weekend destination, a city-wide promotional blast can also more fruitful, as people are willing to drive across cities for a special night out. 
 
Customers’ INTEREST 
Beyond targeting age group, gender and geographies, most online platforms let you target audiences based on their interests. Twitter allows for targeting people according to the kinds of people that they follow. Other methods of interest-based targeting include hashtags and keywords. A poker room, for instance, can target people interested in teen patti, blackjack, Las Vegas and Dan Bilzerian—all topics that poker players are highly likely to be interested in. 
 
AUTOMATE your work 
 There are a handful of great technological tools that will help you be as efficient as possible, by scheduling posts for months in advance. Tools like Hootsuite let you keep track of and upload content in very strategic ways. Instead of posting every single day, a single sitting of uploading and scheduling can take care of almost 80% of all your social media needs. This lets you get back into operations a little more carefree as you know that you are creating a steady stream of content online, even if you are not logging in every day. 
 
Different Events, different Tech 
Most promotions pre-event can be planned, uploaded and scheduled in advance. However the latest developments on Facebook, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=youtube&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">YouTube</a>, and Periscope allow for live streaming of events to be a reality with very little effort.

Shark populations are slowly recovering from historic lows in the 1990s, the world's human population has grown and rising temperatures are leading more people to go swimming, Burgess said.Still, the university notes that fatal shark attacks, while undeniably graphic, are so infrequent that beachgoers face a higher risk of being killed by sand collapsing as the result of overachieving sand castle builders.With their fearsome teeth and dorsal fins the inspiration for hit movies, TV series and beach-town souvenirs, it is hard to believe that a century ago American scientists did not believe sharks would fatally attack humans in US temperate waters without provocation.That changed in July 1916, when four people were killed in attacks near the New Jersey shore, a series of deaths blamed on a sea turtle until a great white shark with human remains in its stomach was captured nearby.Since those attacks, public opinion of sharks has changed dramatically, with swimmers' fears fanned by fiction, from the 1975 Academy Award-winning film "Jaws," based on Peter Benchley's book about a giant man-eater, to the Discovery Channel's modern "Shark Week" summer television series.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Discovery Channel/Shark Week</div></div></div>Years before the attacks near the northern Jersey Shore town of Keyport, millionaire businessman Hermann Oelrichs offered a $500 prize in 1891 (more than $13,000 in today's dollars) to anyone who could prove that a shark ever bit a human in nontropical waters. The reward was never claimed.Well-regarded scientists at the American Museum of Natural History in New York pointed to Oelrichs' wager as proof that no shark would bite a human, according to Michael Capuzzo's 2001 book "Close to Shore."Even the New York Times in a 1915 editorial titled "Let Us Do Justice to the Sharks" cited Oelrichs' offer and said, "That sharks can properly be called dangerous in this part of the world is apparently untrue."<h2>HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I91DJZKRxs">Universal via YouTube</a></div></div></div>While those attacks gave oceangoers pause for decades, "Jaws" turned the hunter into the hunted, Burgess said."Every red-blooded American man felt obliged to go out and catch sharks, which were readily capturable," said the University of Florida's Burgess, noting that they can be caught offshore and from small boats. "It became the blue-collar marlin."Sharks were being killed by sportfishing fleets as well as commercial fishermen seeking steaks for US grocery stores and Asian markets for shark fin soup, regarded as an aphrodisiac in some cultures.By the late 1980s, shark populations were crashing, and scientists sounded the alarm.
