This came after the firm raised Rs 73 crore from a clutch of investors through a private placement last week. With the latest fund infusion, the combined fund raising by the firm reached Rs 98 crore in two tranches. In a public statement on Tuesday, <keyword id="3260122" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zaggle" source="Orion">Zaggle</keyword> said that it issued 15,24,390 equity shares to ValueQuest at a price of Rs 164 apiece. <ul><li>The fintech space saw five funding rounds surpassing the $100 million mark.</li><li>The sector saw 31 acquisitions, and two initial public offers in 2023.</li><li>Alternative lending, payments, BankingTech raised the most funds in a tough year. </li></ul>As the funding winter rages on, India’s fintech sector saw fund inflows decline by 63% in 2023. The sector raised a mere $2 billion for the year – lower than $5.4 billion raised in 2022 and $8.4 billion in 2023, says a report by Tracxn. In spite of the fall, India ranked third globally in 2023 in terms of <keyword id="12790780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fintech-startup-funding" source="Orion">fintech startup funding</keyword>. Globally, funds have become tight for startups due to rising interest rates, as well as tough and uncertain macroeconomic conditions. “Despite a 63% decline, the sector stands strong as the third-highest funded ecosystem globally, affirming its position as a hub of innovation. The implementation of regulatory measures and the government's commitment to digitalization have set the stage for a promising future,” said Neha Singh, co-founder at Tracxn. Only one unicorn this year The year witnessed five funding rounds surpassing the $100 million mark. Perfios, a real-time credit decision platform, raised $229 million in a Series D round led by Kedaara Capital. Mintifi, an online marketplace for business loans, secured $110 million in a Series D funding round led by Premji Invest. The sector also saw only one unicorn – <keyword id="4331504" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="incred" source="Orion">InCred</keyword> that was created in the year. But the sector also saw consolidation. There were 31 acquisitions, similar to the previous year. TrillionLoans was acquired by BharatPe for $36 million, Goals101 acquired by M2P for $30 million; and Upwards acquired by LendingKart for $12.1 million. Two companies, Zaggle and Veefin, announced initial public offers in 2023, compared to five companies that went public the year before. Slowdown in funding was seen across stages of deals. While late-stage rounds witnessed a 56% drop, early-stage rounds fell much sharply at 73%. Seed-stage rounds were also not immune to this downward trajectory, seeing a 69% drop. scarce, sectors within fintech like alternative lending, payments, and bankingtech saw a good run. Alternative Lending received funding of $835 million in 2023, down from $2.28bn in 2022. The BNPL (buy now pay later) segment saw significant growth due to its adoption within the country, which contributed to the growth of the sector. “The digital lending space, which increasingly relies on customer data for its product marketing and development, is also likely to grow owing to the government’s recently launched Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will ensure more transparency and customer trust in the sector,” the report added. Banking Tech received funding of $331 million in 2023, which halved compared to last year. But the segment substantially benefited from digitalization, and digital banking has seen widespread adoption due to rising internet and mobile device penetration in cities as well as rural areas. “Additionally, the Indian government has recently allocated about $16.7 billion towards the BharatNet project to increase broadband connectivity within rural areas, which will help widen the reach and potentially attract more investments into the sector,” the report said. Peak XV Partners, Y Combinator, and LetsVenture were the top investors in the space. India’s fintech funding shrinks over 60% to $2 billion

The government has raised over Rs 4.04 lakh crore through disinvestment and strategic sale of public sector enterprises since the Modi government came into power in 2014, the <keyword id="47209" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance-ministry" source="Orion">Finance Ministry</keyword> said on Tuesday. Of this, the largest amount totalling over ₹1.07 lakh crore through offer for sale in 59 cases. With the rising job market and ever-evolving concept of job, it will be interesting to see how India defines the future of work,” Sashi Kumar, head of sales at Indeed India, told Business Insider India. To be sure, the hiring pace in the Indian IT sector slowed down this year and this was particularly seen in the case of freshers. However, experts say that the demand for IT digital skills like SAP, salesforce developers, dot net, data analytics, java, full stack, devOps, and cloud infra will continue to remain strong in 2023. “We do see an upswing in demand for digital skills as the services sector continues to hire,” Nitin Dave, CEO – Quess Staffing Solutions told Business Insider India. According to a recent Indeed survey, around 71% of companies recruited people with IT abilities and skills this year. Data science, analytics, and other technology-related job roles are likely to continue to be in demand next year as well, according to Kumar of Indeed India. “High-skilled engineering employees who have prowess for futuristic tech are in demand and they have multiple opportunities, hence we see that employability is positive,” Kumar added. Crypto roles - which had the biggest share of hires in overall technology job roles, increasing from 41.22% in 2019-20 to 67.48% in 2021-22 – will continue its upward growth with high demand for application developers, data engineers and full-stack developers. Another big source of demand for human resources will be from global capability centres (GCCs). “We also expect to see an increase in job demand from the growing number of GCCs in India,” Dave added. As a result of the pandemic’s digital push, there is a rise in jobs in engineering and R&amp;D being made available in Tier 2 and 3 cities as well,” Kumar said. The Reserve Bank of India’s recently released ‘Payments Vision 2025’ is not only going to boost digital payments in India but make them a strong ecosystem too, the report added. The core theme of the vision document, released by the central bank of India last weekend, is based on four Es — e-payments for everyone, everywhere and everytime. “To promote innovation, the RBI aims to explore a UPI-like system for cards, enable networks for IOT-based payments and interoperability for contactless transit card payments in the offline mode, and create payment systems for merchants. With the new initiatives, the RBI expects to increase digital payment transactions by 3x,” Emkay noted. RBI’s decision to revisit the merchant discount rate (MDR) as well as the regulation to link credit card and credit components to UPI will have a role to play. “Linking credit cards to UPI is another game changer as would globalization of India's Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs)," Avinash Godkhindi, MD and CEO of global digital bank Zaggle, added. Emkay Research believes that a comprehensive review of MDR — a charge paid by merchants to payments companies to accept online payments — could lead to relatively higher charges on credit card and wallet payments. For perspective, PhonePe actually processed nearly <a href="https://www.phonepe.com/pulse/explore/transaction/2022/1/">7.6 billion transactions</a> in the January-March quarter of 2022. A 90% rate would mean that PhonePe did not earn any money over 6.8 billion transactions. Suhail Sameer, CEO of merchants payments platform BharatPe, noted that the Payments Vision 2025 shows the regulator’s intent and the roadmap to enhance the outreach of digital payments, instill customer centricity and ensure after and transparency in online payments.
