Emotional tributes poured in from all quarters in memory of legendary <keyword id="96776" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pele" source="Orion">Pele</keyword> with Indian football icon Bhaichun Bhutia remembering the 'black pearl' as the "true king" of the game while for legendary cricketer Sachin <keyword id="6391" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tendulkar" source="Orion">Tendulkar</keyword> there won't be another like him. One of the greatest of all time and the only footballer to have won three World Cups, Pele died at the age of 82 after a prolonged battle with colon cancer. Bhutia had the opportunity to interview Pele during his last visit to India in 2018. "I had an opportunity to interview him for a summit talk in Delhi. He was such a wonderful, down-to-earth person, spoke to me close to 40 minutes," Bhutia recalled in an interaction with PTI. "The conversation was more on football, his life and a bit on Indian football. He had a great sense of humour. I asked him about his India trip, but he could not remember where and which city he played and what the outcome was. Because of the age, alright." "He was a true king and God for us. He was such a humble, soft person. Definitely, it's a big, big loss for football and the fraternity. "He is one of the greatest players cum administrators we had. He was such a great role model on and off the field. He inspired millions and millions." That was his last visit to India, which happened three years after he was felicitated in Kolkata and then attended the Subroto Cup Inter-School final in the capital. "First time he was fit, but on the second time he came in a wheelchair," Bhutia added. Tendulkar also remembered the legacy of Pele. "A great loss to not just football but to the whole world of sports. There will never be another! Your legacy will live on forever. Rest in Peace Pele!," Tendulkar wrote on his Twitter handle. The football-mad city of Kolkata watched Pele in action in 1977 when he played against Mohun Bagan in an exhibition match which happened to be his penultimate outing. Football fever had reached a crescendo as Pele was given a hero's welcome at the airport and about 90,000 crowd-packed Eden Gardens to watch his magical flair. Former India forward <keyword id="786963" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shyam-thapa" source="Orion">Shyam Thapa</keyword>, who scored the opening goal in that match, was left devastated at the news. "I'm completely devastated. I am so lucky to have played with him, I cannot forget that evening at Eden Gardens. He had a charisma about him," Thapa said. Before that eventful match on September 24, 1977, Thapa an East Bengal loyalist grabbed the headlines to become the highest-paid footballer after he was signed by arch-rivals Mohun Bagan for a record fee. And his only reason for joining Mohun Bagan was Pele. "Pele was the only reason why I left my favourite club East Bengal teary-eyed," Thapa said. "Dhiren-da (Mohun Bagan general secretary Dhiren Dey) gave me a record offer then -- Rs 50,000 -- to join Mohun Bagan, saying that he's bringing Pele's New York Cosmos to play an exhibition match here. "I repaid the faith by scoring the first goal. And, at the felicitation ceremony in the evening, while my name was called Pele refused to shake hands with me. 'You're my enemy, you scored the goal against us,' Pele told me in a lighter vein. He distinctly remembered my jersey number 22." Later, he pulled me and hugged me and said you 'played well, keep it up'." His former teammate Pradip Chowdhury also recalled that match and said: "It was raining for three days and it left Eden Gardens slushy." "But with 90,000 fans packed the stadium to the hilt, the match began. Football passion had reached a never before high." The Mohun Bagan players were left nervous and the legendary PK Banerjee, who was the coach of the team, gave them a mantra, he recalled. "We all were very nervous, PK da told us: 'don't panic, play for pride, you are here representing the country. This match will remain etched in history and everyone will keep talking about this match. "His first sight left all of us awe-struck. Everyone has to go one day. I will pray for his eternal peace," Chowdhury said. "A lot has been said about the match, but I would say the reception he got at the airport was unprecedented. No head of state or any dignitary was bestowed with such a reception. Passion had reached a zenith," Gautam Sarkar, former India footballer said. Another former national player Dipendu Biswas said: "He is the biggest star in sports, a true Mahasamrat (king) of football. There is no footballer who is not influenced by him. Recently we saw giant posters of him, wishing him 'get well soon' in the galleries of the Qatar World Cup. It's the end of an era." India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu said: "He's an icon - not just of our sport, but of our world - has gone. Rest easy, King Pele, and thank you for all that you've done for our game." India defender Sandesh Jhingan also mourned the loss and tweeted: "A legend has left, an era has ended. But his legacy will forever remain. I will always be grateful for having the chance to be connected in a very small way with the Pele Foundation. May his soul rest well." Tributes also poured in from cricket World Cup-winning star India all-rounder <keyword id="351" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yuvraj-singh" source="Orion">Yuvraj Singh</keyword>, former coach Ravi Shastri among others. "Thank you for everything #Legend. You will be missed forever. A three-time world-cup-winning footballer and a timeless beauty on the field. You were the reason millions started playing the game. So tell us about Youwecan ventures 
I wanted to start a few business opportunities. The online world is quite big and I want to invest in some future ventures. I would be helping young entrepreneurs to expand the business and make India a better place. We have plans to invest Rs 40-50 crores over next few years. We expect to raise Rs 250-300 crores from other investor by 2020.

I love playing football, tennis &amp; skating apart from cricket. Also, I love reading books. 
 
Tell us about your everyday fitness regime? 
My regime is mostly off-season, because that’s when I can put in the extra hours. It’s very difficult to put in that time when the season starts. Of course, then it is about maintaining fitness by doing weights in the gym and very light running. But running is something that is always required. 
 
What is your diet routine like? 
I concentrate on eating good carbs and more of protein. I take brown rice instead of normal rice and use gluten-free atta instead of wheat roti. Sticking to this diet helps me maintain good health and stay fit. 
 
What is your motivation factor? 
My motivation comes from within. I am one of those who believe in fighting hard and never giving up. My mother is my biggest strength and gives me immense courage.

entrepreneurship, fitness and motivation

He is also aiming to become a Rs 100 crore brand in 3 years.</li><li>We talk to the man behind the brand and India’s cricketing legend, Virender Sehwag to trace VS by Sehwag’s journey, challenges of finding your own space in a cluttered market when you are competing against international brands like Adidas, Nike and Puma, focus areas for H2 2021, marketing strategy and larger vision for the brand.</li></ul>Launched in March 2020, right before the global pandemic hit India, cricketing legend Virender Sehwag’s athleisure brand, VS by Sehwag, has been able to carve a niche for itself in a highly competitive and volatile market. The one-year-young VS by Sehwag is competing against international mega-brands like Adidas, Reebok, Nike and Puma and sportswear brands by former colleagues MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli. He is looking at diving into the mass market by offering affordable price points to consumers in Tier II and III cities. “My USP is that our products are ‘#uncompromised’ with quality and price. Some people have to compromise with quality or compromise with money, but if you buy VS, you won’t compromise with anything. There’s a gap in the segment; it was either a big brand with quality products and too steep a price or a lesser brand at a lower price band, with subnormal quality- in either case shoppers had to compromise on one factor or the other. There is competition everywhere. Even when I was playing cricket, I was competing against my team players to score more runs than them. But if you offer the best price and quality, there’s no competition for you. There are so many other brands and good luck to them on meeting my price and quality offering,” Sehwag told Ad and Media Insider. He said that his brand pays close attention to quality as well, inspecting the design and durability of each product till a piece of fabric or kit does not feel ‘3D ready’ to him. He also said that his humble, middle-class upbringing and mindset is translated into his brand because he believes that India is a price-oriented country and it is easier to attract consumers at a lower price with long-lasting products. “If I offer the same quality product at 499 or 599, which usually costs you around Rs 3000-4000, consumers will buy my product and come again for its quality,” said Sehwag. According to <a href="https://www.ccfgroup.com/newscenter/newsview.php?Class_ID=600000&amp;Info_ID=20170221031">CCFGroup,</a> nearly 80% of India’s sportswear market is dominated by global brands like Adidas, Reebok, Nike and Puma, with others such as Under Armour, Fila and Lotto, domestic multi-brand sportswear retailers like Planet Sports and Royal Sporting House, and emerging local players, collectively battling for the remaining 20%. Between the four big sports brands, Adidas had a 45% market share in 2017. Now, with his foray into the e-commerce world, Sehwag is eyeing to acquire five million customers by 2026. Sehwag has already started ramping up the brand’s portfolio by adding over 30 new products to its existing 50 stock keeping units (SKUs) across categories like Tracks, T-Shirts, Jackets and Shorts and VS Gear- a range of Cricket Bats, Gloves and Pads. VS is also about to launch three stores this month in Vadodara (Gujarat), Kolhapur (Maharashtra) and Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and has appointed distributors in Delhi, Faridabad, Bhopal, Indore, Sri Ganganagar and Kanpur. The brand’s first store was launched in Ahmedabad and it had added two more stores in the same city subsequently. It was unveiled under the aegis of <keyword id="11791176" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="viru-retail-pvt-ltd-">Viru Retail Pvt. Ltd.</keyword>, a joint-venture between Sehwag owned World of Viru Pvt. Ltd. and Stitched Textiles Pvt. Ltd. “We couldn’t open more stores due to the pandemic but now, we will open 5 stores outside of Gujarat in the next 40 days,” said Sehwag. As an entrepreneur, Sehwag says that he likes to play it safe unlike cricket, which is a game of risks. Jogger pants and sports or polo t-shirts can be seen sported by everyone from young millennials to CEOs over Zoom calls. India’s sportswear market is also rapidly catching up with the wider global fitness trends. It is driven by improving lifestyle, urbanisation, growth of e-commerce and increasing focus on health. According to data and analytics company GlobalData, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) sportswear market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% from $189.8 billion in 2020 to $297.8 billion in 2025, outpacing global growth. With this growing demand for athleisure in everyday fashion and on the back of a strong expansion plan in untapped markets, VS by Sehwag is aiming to become a Rs 100 crore brand in 3 years. Sharing his focus areas for H2-2021, Sehwag said, “We are looking at focusing more on digital marketing. I would also leverage my digital fan following to attract new customers. This year, I would focus on increasing more awareness. And to attract other sports personalities, I would be focusing on offering quality products at a reasonable price. So, in the next 3-5 years, my target is to reach at least 5 million customer base and achieve Rs 100 crores in revenue through Omni-channel retail, over the next 3 years. Considering the kind of fan following I have, I feel this target is achievable.”
