<ul><li>YouTube Premium subscribers on iOS can finally start using picture-in-picture mode.</li><li>This feature plays YouTube videos in the background in a mini player.</li><li>YouTube has confirmed it will roll out this feature for all iPhone users soon.</li></ul>iPhone users are finally getting picture-in-picture (PiP) mode for YouTube. It was confirmed earlier this year in June that PiP mode for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/google-has-rolled-out-a-new-feature-to-skip-chapters-in-youtube-videos/articleshow/85210299.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">YouTube</a> will be available for iPhone users soon. There’s no confirmed date yet but some iPhone users can start using the feature. This is however exclusive only to YouTube Premium users. <br /><br />If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber and on an iPhone you can finally start using the PiP mode. This feature is actually an experiment that YouTube Premium users can try out, according to a <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/08/24/youtube-picture-in-picture-iphone/" data-type="tilCustomLink">report</a> by 9to5Google.<br /><br />Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use <keyword id="11946588" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youtube-pip-mode" source="Orion">YouTube PiP mode</keyword> on iPhone.<br /><br /><ol><li>Open <a href="http://www.youtube.com/new">www.youtube.com/new</a> on a web browser.<br /></li><li>Scroll down to look for “Picture-in-picture on iOS” and then select try it out.<br /></li><li>You will be asked to sign in to your YouTube account.<br /></li><li>Then play a video on YouTube and swipe up or press the home button to close the app.<br /></li><li>The video will continue playing in a mini player.</li></ol>YouTube PiP mode also enables background play so even if you lock your iPhone the audio will continue playing in the background. This will work for YouTube Music as well since background play is available only to premium subscribers. How to use YouTube picture-in-picture (PiP) mode on iOS

New Delhi, March 31 (IANS) <keyword id="2041256" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="youtube-tv" source="Orion">YouTube TV</keyword> on Thursday announced that it has started rolling out picture-in-picture (<keyword id="876679" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pip" source="Orion">PiP</keyword>) to its iPhone and <keyword id="101239" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ipad" source="Orion">iPad</keyword> app.<br /><br />"We are happy to share that picture-in-picture is now rolling out to your iOS 15+ devices. Simply select a video to watch and swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the device's homepage. The video can scale down and move across your screen," the firm said in a tweet.<br /><br />However, picture-in-picture support is not yet available for all mobile users of the YouTube application.<br /><br />"We really appreciate your patience while we worked on enabling this key feature for your iOS 15+ devices. YouTube TV brings picture-in-picture support for iPhones and iPads

Google-owned <keyword id="10879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="YouTube">YouTube</keyword> has reportedly started testing the picture-in-picture (PiP) mode for its <keyword id="1066331" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="iOS-application">iOS application</keyword>.<br /><br />According to a report in 9TO5Mac, the mode is available for <keyword id="510992" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPad-users">iPad users</keyword> since <keyword id="2285398" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ios-9">iOS 9</keyword> and Apple has also enabled the feature for its <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> range with iOS 14 update. <br /><br />YouTube has started testing native support for the picture-in-picture mode in its iOS app. <br /><br />The feature is only working with a few videos at the moment, meaning that YouTube is still testing the feature with a limited number of users.<br /><br />Once a user has the mode enabled, it would work just like in any other app that supports it. <br /><br />One can start playing a video and then close the app to continue watching it in a smaller window. <br /><br />The video floats over the iOS home screen or any other app the users are using.<br /><br />YouTube only allows users to playback videos in the background if they subscribe to YouTube Premium, which means PiP may be restricted to paying users. <br /><br />The service is available in India for Rs 129 per month, while a family subscription that allows up to 5 users will cost you Rs 189 a month.<br /><br />--IANS<br /><br />wh/na

The result is a quasi-vacation where you might shoot off emails and respond to Slack messages between drinks at the swim-up bar.</p><p>Naturally, it's a concept championed by those loveable workaholics, millennials.</p><p>Depending on your position on the workplace spectrum, that might sound like an ideal setup or the sign of a lazy worker.</p><p>But Business Insider's Emily Stewart argues <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quiet-vacations-work-trends-culture-pto-travel-job-stress-2024-6"><u>workers feeling too stressed to fully take time off</u></a> is a sad example of America's work culture.</p><p>It's not an unfounded fear, either. One piece of research found men at a consulting firm were rewarded for giving the impression they were workaholics despite actually pulling back on work.</p><p>Either way, it's a trend that's unlikely to die down in the near term.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/work-from-home-fridays-quiet-vacationing-remote-careers-workplace-trends-2024-05"><u>As I previously wrote</u></a>, the rise of WFH Fridays is the perfect complement to quiet vacations. His replacement was Lou Gehrig, who went on to play in more than 2,100 consecutive games en route to a legendary career.</p><p>Now, Pipp's name is synonymous with the risk of taking your foot off the gas. Long before "FOMO" there was fear of getting "Wally Pipped." It also makes for great fodder for LinkedIn influencers who tout the importance of #hustleharder.</p><p>And with the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/layoffs-sweeping-us-these-are-companies-making-cuts-2024"><u>threat of layoffs</u></a> ongoing, it's no wonder people might not want to be seen taking it easy.</p><p>The irony is that quiet vacationing could arguably put you in a worse position for your job these days. 'Quiet vacationing' shows how sad America's work culture has become

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Florence Fu/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Mac OS X has been around so long that Nickelback had the number one single the year it launched.</p><p>So after over 15 years, it's time for a change.</p><p>OS X is officially dead, and has been renamed macOS. The first version of macOS, codenamed Sierra, launches this fall as a free update for most Macs. But there's a public beta version out now, and I've been testing it for the last week or so.</p><p>There are tons of changes in Sierra, and they all add up to a big, significant update for the Mac.</p><p>So what can you expect? Time to dive in.</p><h2>Siri</h2><p>Let's start with Siri, since that's the biggest and most significant new feature coming to Sierra.</p><p>This isn't the same Siri you're used to. Yes, it can tell you a joke or give you weather and sports updates. But Siri on Mac has been retooled to perform a lot of desktop-specific tasks, like searching for files or adjusting settings that tend to be buried under layers of menus.</p><p>Some examples: "Turn on Bluetooth." "How much iCloud storage do I have left?" "Show me my music files." "Show me documents I worked on yesterday." And so on.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>My favorite feature so far is email search. I spend a lot of time digging through my inbox for the last email my editor sent me or a specific attachment. It's so much easier to say, "show me emails from So-And-So" instead. It's also nice to have image, Twitter, and web search baked right in, especially when you're working in an app and need to look something up quickly. You can also drag content from the Siri window into the app you're working on. All of these are thoughtful improvements.</p><p>On the other hand, a lot of the features feel like they belong on the iPhone and were forced onto the Mac. It's a bit awkward to dictate text messages and emails on your computer, especially when you have a big ol' keyboard right in front of you. You're better off ignoring that aspect of Siri.</p><p>I only have two major issues with Siri on the Mac:</p><p>First, there's the awkwardness. As I tested Sierra over the last week, I got a lot of snickers in the office as I queried my Mac to find files or search through emails. It got really embarrassing when Siri didn't understand me one time and replied, "I'm not sure what you said there, Spider-Man." Everyone laughed. (It's a long story, but I got kind of drunk over Labor Day last year and thought it'd be funny to ask Siri to call me Spider-Man from now on. I forgot about that until this week. Now all my colleagues know I'm an even bigger dork than they thought.)</p><p>Maybe one day we'll live in a future where it's normal to talk to your computer instead of typing or clicking a mouse, but it feels out of place today.</p><p>Then there's Spotlight, which got a big update last year that lets you use natural language to search your Mac and check stuff like sports scores or weather. But a year later, Siri can do pretty much everything Spotlight can do and then some. It's strange that Apple decided to leave Spotlight on the Mac instead of adding a text field to type into in Siri. You basically have two assistants for the same thing now, and they live right next to each other in your taskbar. I can see those two features merging together one day, but it's odd that Apple would spend so much time improving Spotlight last year when it was about to add Siri to the Mac.</p><p>Overall, it's obvious that we're in the early days of Siri on the Mac. While it's wonderful for searching the web and files on your computer, it's not going to radically change the way you use macOS.</p><h2>Photos</h2><p>Photos is the next biggest update to macOS. Just like in the upcoming iOS 10, Apple built in a new artificial intelligence system that can scan the content of your photos and automatically group them into albums and slideshows. It's also really useful for search - just look up "baby" or "dog" or "house" or a person's name you've tagged and you'll get exactly that.</p><p>These improvements are very similar to Google Photos, which launched last year, except for one key difference. Instead of crunching all the data in the cloud like Google does, Apple Photos analyzes everything locally on your Mac without sharing anything with Apple. In theory, this'll keep your content much more private than it is with Google.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>I've been using Google Photos for a year now, so I'm not ready to make a call and say one service is better than the other. Since I have all my photos in Google, I've only taken a few dozen since I started testing Sierra last week. It'll take a few more months before I can tell if it's working as well as Apple says.</p><p>So far though, Photos was able to automatically make an album of my trip to San Francisco for Apple's WWDC event and show me photos of my adorable new cat Larry when I searched for "cat." While Facebook and Google spend a lot of effort scanning your photos on their own servers, it's really impressive Apple figured out how to do something similar while still keeping your photos private on your machine.</p><h2>iMessage</h2><p>No other app got more attention at last week's WWDC keynote than iMessage. It's about to get a massive overhaul, essentially turning it into Apple's own social network.</p><p>The Mac version of iMessage is also getting all those features too - from bigger emojis to rich information when you paste a link. It's a huge, significant update to Apple's most popular app. It worked well for me so far in Sierra, but it'll be even better once iOS 10 is available and more people can start using it.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Picture-in-picture video</h2><p>I didn't realize how much video I watch on my computer while doing other work. A lot of times I'll keep a video playing while I listen to the audio and work in another browser tab, which is less than ideal. But in Sierra, you can pop videos out of the browser with picture-in-picture (PiP) video.</p><p>PiP lets you float videos from the web or iTunes on top of all your other apps. You can resize and position the video anywhere on your screen. So far, ESPN and Vimeo are the only sites that support PiP, but there's nothing stopping YouTube and the rest from adding it too. (I'd be shocked if YouTube didn't have PiP ready in time for Sierra's launch this fall.)</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>There's one major downside though. PiP only works with Safari, so you're out of luck if you use Chrome, Firefox, or something else.</p><h2>Other stuff</h2><p>There are loads of other relatively minor features coming to Sierra, and many of them won't be ready until later versions of the beta or when the iOS 10 beta is available to the public next month. (This will be huge.)</span></li></ul><h2>Conclusion</h2><p>That's a lot of stuff!</p><p>Other than Siri, there aren't many major changes to the way macOS works. But add all those iterative improvements up, and Sierra feels like a hefty update. Even though <a href="https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/">you can get the beta now</a>, I don't recommend installing it on your primary Mac since there are still a few bugs Apple has to iron out before the fall.
