From reaching an all-time high to mid- and small-cap led corrections and Sensex crossing the 75k mark to wobbling over the last few days due to tensions in the Middle East, the market has all the elements of an enthralling thriller. But when the markets behave like this, or even during relatively stable times, investors tend to behave irrationally. Hersh Shefrin, Mario L. Belotti Professor of Finance at Leavey School of Business, emphasises that investing is a complex process, and as humans, we are prone to imperfections. Hersh is a renowned Canadian economist widely recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to behavioural finance and he says that we are all susceptible to errors in judgement and decision-making when it comes to investing. While the key <keyword id="13496963" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="behavioural-biases" source="Orion">behavioural biases</keyword> are well known, we will take a deeper dive into how they can influence our investing decisions. Anchoring bias One common bias that may affect investors is the anchoring bias which refers to the tendency of investors to rely too heavily on initial information when making decisions, even if new data suggests a different course of action. Gaurav Mashruwala, financial planner and author of Yogic Wealth, explains with an example. Let us assume that the stock is priced at ₹80. You are scared to invest for fear that the stock price will fall and decide to invest when the stock price comes down. However, when the stock price reaches ₹100 and then you invest thinking it will go up even higher. Say the stock reaches a price of ₹120. An investor loses out because of an anchoring bias where you believe that the market has reached its peak. The opposite can also happen. When the markets are falling investors may rush to sell stocks for the fear of a loss and miss out on any potential recovery. Essentially, here one is a victim of anchoring bias because one is basing one’s decision on immediate information received and not considering other factors. Base your investing decisions on rational thinking Markets at an "all-time high", scream the headlines, when markets reach a peak. This may mislead people into thinking that the market will correct from that point because it has reached its highest level ever. “However, there is no logical reason to assume that a correction will occur solely based on hitting a historical peak. Market movements are influenced by various factors, and historical highs do not guarantee an immediate correction,” says Chenthil Iyer, founder and chief strategist at Horus Financial Consultants, a financial planning firm. Iyer says that the rational thing to do is to check whether the stocks in your portfolio have crossed their reasonable valuation fundamentally, i.e. based on its business parameters such as profits, expansion plans, product range, debt exposure etc. And if they have, then one may exit and wait for another opportunity. Else it would make sense to wait further. “Doing well with money has a little to do with how smart you are and a lot to do with how you behave,” says Morgan Housel, the author of Psychology of Money. Fear, greed, and panic These human emotions tend to pay out under different circumstances and investing is no different. Suresh Sadagopan, founder and principal officer of Ladder7 Financial Advisories, a financial planning and wealth advisory firm, says, “There is a lot of noise at all points, especially during times such as these, and reports say that by the end of the Sensex will reach 75,000, 80,000 and so on. This will either generate fear or greed. If the reports are largely positive, it will generate greed. Otherwise, it will generate fear. A lot of information flowing in a particular direction will either bias you for or against.” There may be some who think the markets will go up higher and put in more money while there would be others who feel that the markets have reached a point where it is at very high levels and decide to stop their SIPs and come back again in a few months. Either way, it is emotions of fear and greed taking over their investing decisions. Fear, greed, and panic are common emotions that drive market behaviour. Fear can lead to selling when prices decline, while greed may encourage investors to chase quick gains. Panic can cause irrational selling during market downturns. Understanding and managing these emotions is essential for successful long-term investing.

<ul><li>Experts say mixing insurance, and investments is never a good idea.</li><li>In a guaranteed return insurance plan the investor pays the premium for the chosen number of years, and starts receiving a guaranteed payout for a specified term. </li><li>In the current interest rate scenario, guaranteed return <keyword id="35498" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance-plans" source="Orion">insurance plans</keyword> can fetch an internal rate of return (<keyword id="238116" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="irr" source="Orion">IRR</keyword>) in the range of 6% to 6.50%, which does not really beat inflation. </li></ul>You would have seen advertisements that promise guaranteed returns in the form of a monthly income after investments have been made for a certain number of years. Most of these ads go like this: Invest ₹15,000 a month for 25 years, and get a monthly income of ₹40,000 for 10 years! These guaranteed return plans are basically insurance plans. They sound promising, because who does not want a guaranteed income? Plus, they promise to pay a fixed amount of money every month for a certain period. The invested amount is also eligible for tax deductions, and there is also a life cover provided for the entire policy term. All of this sounds good, but should you invest in such a plan? Let us dive a little deeper. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="How guaranteed return insurance plans work" comment="subhead" text="How guaranteed return insurance plans work">How guaranteed return insurance plans work</cmsannotation> First, let us understand how guaranteed return insurance plans work. “In the guaranteed return insurance plan (non-participating plan), the investor pays the premium for the chosen number of years, and starts receiving a guaranteed payout for a specified term,” says Rahul Jain, President and Head, Nuvama Wealth, a wealth management firm. For example, Suresh, a 30-year-old engineer, purchases a guaranteed return insurance policy with a 10-year premium term, and a 30-year policy term with a two-year waiting period. In this case, he will first pay the premium for ten years. After the twelfth year, he will start receiving guaranteed payouts for the remaining policy period. “These plans can simplify the lives of those who are not good with money management and struggle to generate regular income through fixed deposits and bonds by offering regular cash flows and/or a lump sum payout based on the investor's preference,” says Jain. But investing in guaranteed insurance plans may not be a good idea. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Why the claims are misleading" comment="subhead" text="Why the claims are misleading">Why the claims are misleading</cmsannotation> “The way the numbers are represented in the policy, they are only numbers. There are never any percentage figures which specify the returns,” says Renu Maheswari, co-founder and principal advisor, Finscholarz Wealth Managers. In case a percent return figure is mentioned, it will mention ‘up to’ 7.5%, or ‘as high as ‘7.5%’, which itself is a misnomer, since they are advertised as guaranteed return plans. “These numbers make no sense- one number is of 2023, the other number is of 2048. The time value of money is not incorporated in these numbers,” says Maheswari. She says that what the investor misses out on is that the payout, let us say ₹40,000 per month today, and ₹40,000 per month after 25 years will not have the same value. The purchase value will be less, so the planning part totally goes out of the question. Why you should not invest Experts say mixing insurance, and investments is never a good idea. Also, returns from guaranteed insurance plans are on the lower side. “What rate of return we are getting is not clearly mentioned anywhere. As registered investment advisors (RIAs) we look at the numbers and then we calculate the IRR, and based on it we judge a policy,” says Maheswari. “In the current interest rate scenario, such plans can fetch an IRR in the range of 6% to 6.50%. It's easy to figure out the IRR of these plans. The investor just needs to plot the premium expense, and future income flows from the benefit illustration on an Excel sheet and use the IRR function to calculate the IRR,” says Jain. Mostly, IRR of guaranteed return insurance plans are even lower. Moreover, when you are investing in such a product, you are locking in the money for a very long term. “You are locking it predominantly in an instrument, that is a structured investment. Most of this money is invested in fixed income securities. When you have the leeway to lock-in the money for 25-30 years, if you invest in the equity markets, your gains can be more than double of what you get here,” says Maheswari. Basically, guaranteed insurance plans provide returns that do not beat inflation, so over a period of time, they do not grow your money. Certain investors might be risk averse and not want to invest in equities. “ Guaranteed return insurance plans are not a good investment. If you are a conservative investor, you should buy a term plan and invest the rest of the money in savings bonds issued by RBI, then you will make more money,” says Gaurav Mashruwala, financial planner and author of Yogic Wealth. The interest rates on these floating rate bonds are reset every six months, and currently are at 8.05%. Investing in such a product gives you a false sense of security, and it is more of an emotional reason why you are buying such a product. From a financial point of view, it is not a wise decision.

 Of course, one of the main reason why Fadnavis managed to pull off this feat was that he was being personally guided and coached by holistic, global health guru <keyword id="144538" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mickey-Mehta">Mickey Mehta</keyword>, to reduce 18 kilos in just 3 months.

Mehta, who has a PhD for Philosophy in well-being, said Fadnavis is also spiritually very inclined and they did a lot of chanting. 
 
“We do a lot of chanting, we make him lie down on grass, take lot of sunshine on his face, chant lot of mantras and that’s perfectly enough to transform anybody physically, physiologically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. End of the day, activation of brain, endocrine system, the nervous system influences the state of body,” he said. 
 
So, what does it take for an obese person to lose weight? Determination and right combination of eating and exercises. 
 
Here are his best kept secrets for obese people to lose weight: 
 
1) Lie down and don’t do things standing up at all or very little, because a lot of body weight falls on the knees. 
2) Make sure you take baby steps while walking and going from one exercise to the other. 
3) Do lot of yogic, dynamic breathing, administer a lot of stretching and open up. 
4) Progressive resistance training really needs to be scaled up but once again in small baby steps. 
5) Be very careful that you don’t hurt the back, the joints, ligaments. Hurting these could end in spasms and injuries.

Some of the chemicals, which are known to be injurious, continue to be used as ingredients in most beauty products - SLS and SLES being common examples. So ageing is not natural. It is unnatural to fall sick and to age. 

	Ageing can only be stalled by natural means, artificial techniques like face lift and breast enhancements etc, are very harmful. Nobody knows of the techniques of the Vedic masters, which are often misrepresented by equating tantra with pornography. There are many businessmen who come from humble backgrounds and by selling yogic kriyas and ayurvedic medicines amass great wealth and then venture into politics.
