International Yoga Day 2022: 5 foods to include in your yoga diet

When the Modi-led government announced the first International Day of Yoga on June 21st last year, it got them huge appreciation from all corners of the world. This year, to make the event even more impressive, the Modi government is not leaving any stone upturned. 
 
This year, the event would be even longer, with advanced yoga retreats for foreigners in scenic locations in India and arranging a mass Yoga demonstration in either Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, the states ruled by BJP government. 
 
The government also wants to ensure that all institutes including the UGC, AICTE, NITs, IITs, IIITs, IISERs, SPAS and NITTRs make their 100% participation in the event. For promotion purposes, a special 4-minute long 'Yoga Geet' will also be released and played at the event. 
 
All this is decided by a high-level committee which is headed by PM's Yoga guru Dr HR Nagendra, who is also the Vice chancellor of the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana. He has held several meetings with top officials across ministries so that the event has a considerable fanfare. 
 
Apart from this, the committee would also hold a yoga conference from 21-23rd June, where the traditional approach of Yoga, its health benefits based on evidence, production of evidence-based research and Yoga for health education would be discussed.

And guess, what is he busy doing on Twitter and Facebook today? Calling on people to turn the first <keyword id="6362857" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="International-Yoga-Day">International Yoga Day</keyword> event, to be held on June 21, into a mass movement. 
 
And for this, he has shared posts enlisting benefits of yoga and videos showing various asanas. 
 He first announced his love for Yoga to the world during his first speech at <keyword id="426867" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="United-Nations-General-Assembly">United Nations General Assembly</keyword> in September last year and had advocated for a day dedicated to yoga. Following this, the UN had declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. 
 
"Yoga can contribute to resilience against non-communicable diseases. Yoga can bring communities together in an inclusive manner that generates respect," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had said in a statement. 
 
Modi, who is a yoga practitioner himself, called on people to take up yoga and practice breathing exercises as well. 
 
“Friends, 21st June…I am sure you remember. The first ever International Day of Yoga will be observed on that day. The entire global community has come together in support of celebrating this day. Now, that strong support has also turned into immense enthusiasm. I am seeing several people and organisations across the world are working towards making the first ever International Day of Yoga a memorable event. Together let us make Yoga a mass movement connecting people, strengthening the bonds of humanity” Modi wrote on Facebook. 
 
Modi added that he would be sharing a post every day, covering various aspects of yoga. 
 
It is also speculated that Modi will himself perform yoga asanas at a public event on June 21 in New Delhi and may be joined by several ministers from his cabinet. 
 
As a part of his yoga drive, Modi in November had also introduced a new ministry AAYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy). 
 
Toeing on the same lines, many states and departments also introduced yoga for officials and schoolchildren for overall development of mind, body and soul.

He also said that the government is setting up Naturopathy Certification Board on the lines of Yoga Certification Board. Yoga is heavily endorsed by Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> who also went on to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014. Since then, the Modi government has been organising yoga day events at a national scale, and marketing it internationally as well. As many as 8.5 million people participated in the International Day of Yoga in 2016. The numbers grew to 130 million in 2019. “These are people who follow the yoga protocol on their own without compulsion. It’s not about yoga.
