The Sensex has dropped another 2,000 points as markets opened today. Nifty is at 7,800 points. The last time it opened below 8100 points was on 26 December 2016. All sectoral indices are in the red as well.

Yes Bank's stock has fallen by 22.66% and Zee Entertainment is down by 14.75%. The only stock that's safely in the green for now is Power Grip Corp. What’s next? The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will purchase up to ₹10,000 crore of dated securities from the government via an open market operation (OMO. Yesterday, the apex banks stated that it will make the purchase through a multi-security auction using the multi price method. “It’s important to ensure that all market segments remain liquid, stable and function normally,” said the bank’s statement. The bigger concern is that global growth may shrink to 1% in 2020, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Their report suggests that four major economies — Japan, Italy, Germany and France — are likely to experience a full year recession. “This is the lowest rate in global growth since the global financial crisis,” said the study.

The good news is that it's on the hunt for new talent with an impetus on digitalisation, marketing and credit underwriting. “Wherever there is a shortage, we are hiring,” said YES Bank’s CEO and Managing Director Prashant Kumar in an exclusive interaction with Business Insider on a #HangoutwithBI Twitter live. With very few employees and small costs we are able to acquire,” said Kumar. EXCLUSIVE: YES Bank's workforce shrank by 1,000 employees since March but now it's hiring again for the coming year

New Delhi, Mar 16 () Crisis-hit <keyword id="45660" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">Yes Bank</keyword> will get excluded from all indices of the leading stock exchange BSE with effect from March 20, the entity handling these indices said on Monday. In a circular sent to all its members, the BSE said the BSE S&amp;P Index Committee has decided to remove Yes Bank from all the S&amp;P BSE indices with effect from this Friday, March 20. The decision has been taken in light of the recent developments relating to Yes Bank Limited, in particular the Gazette notification dated March 13, 2020, on 'Yes Bank Limited Reconstruction Scheme, 2020' and the potential impact on the ability of market participants to fully replicate S&amp;P BSE Indices, it added. "Effective at the open of Friday, March 20, 2020, Yes Bank Limited will be removed from all S&amp;P BSE indices," it said. These indices include S&amp;P BSE AllCap, S&amp;P BSE LargeCap, S&amp;P BSE LargeMidCap, S&amp;P BSE Finance, S&amp;P BSE BANKEX, S&amp;P BSE CARBONEX and S&amp;P BSE Private Banks Index (INR). These indices also include S&amp;P BSE Enhanced Value Index, S&amp;P BSE Dividend Stability Index, S&amp;P BSE Diversified Financials Revenue Growth Index (INR), S&amp;P BSE 100 ESG Index (INR), S&amp;P BSE 500, S&amp;P BSE 200, S&amp;P BSE 100, S&amp;P BSE SENSEX Next 50, S&amp;P BSE 100 LargeCap TMC (INR), S&amp;P BSE 250 LargeMidCap Index (INR) and E&amp;P BSE SENSEX Next 50 TMC (INR). Yes Bank to be removed from all BSE indices from March 20

New Delhi, May 14 () The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan in connection with its money laundering probe against Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor and others, officials said.The brothers were remanded to 10-day ED custody by a special court in Mumbai, they said.The Wadhawans are presently in jail after being arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is also probing the same case.They were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the officials said.The Wadhawan brothers, also being probed by the ED in another money laundering probe linked to late gangster Iqbal Mirchi, were summoned by the agency multiple times in the Yes Bank case but they had cited the ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions to skip the summons.Five vehicles of the Wadhawan brothers were seized by the ED in April after they and their family members were reported to have unauthorisedly travelled to Mahabaleshwar from Lonavala in Maharashtra during the nationwide coronavirus-induced lockdown.As many as 44 companies belonging to 10 large business groups, including Anil Ambani Group, Essel Group, ILFS, Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd, Cox &amp; Kings, and Bharat Infra, reportedly accounted for bad loans of Rs 34,000 crore of Yes Bank.The ED has accused Kapoor, his family members and others of laundering "proceeds of crime" worth Rs 4,300 crore by receiving alleged kickbacks in lieu of extending big loans through their bank that later allegedly turned non-performing assets (NPA).Kapoor is also in ED custody. ED arrests Wadhawan brothers in Yes Bank case

New Delhi, Mar 12 () Shares of Yes Bank on Thursday gave up all gains made in recent sessions, plunging over 13 per cent. The stock had surged over 77 per cent in the last two trading sessions. On the NSE, the stock closed 13.02 per cent lower at Rs 25.05. It hit a low of Rs 17.45, shedding more than 39 per cent.On the BSE, it settled at Rs 25.05, lower by 13.02 per cent. It touched an intra-day low of Rs 22.55, down 21.70 per cent.In terms of volume, more than 33 crore shares were traded on the NSE and over 3.2 crore units were exchanged on the BSE.The stock had rallied after State Bank of India (SBI) said it will pick up 49 per cent stake in the lender for Rs 2,450 crore. Last week, the Reserve Bank has imposed a moratorium on the capital-starved Yes Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account. Yes Bank has been struggling to raise capital amidst its dwindling financial health. New Delhi, Mar 23 () Yes Bank on Monday said its board will consider a proposal to raise funds via equity and bonds, at its meeting later this week. "The meeting of the board of directors of Yes Bank Ltd is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Mumbai to consider, amongst other agenda items, a proposal for raising funds by issue of equity shares/ depository receipts/ convertible bonds/ debentures/ warrants/ any other equity-linked securities, through permissible modes," it said in a BSE filing. The fundraising plan will also include a qualified institutions placement, rights issue, and further public offer, among others, subject to such approvals, the bank added. The lender has already raised over Rs 10,000 crore from SBI and other key banks and financial institutions through sale of equity under its reconstruction plan approved by the government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Additionally, the RBI has also extended a Rs 60,000-crore credit line to Yes Bank for meeting obligations, as per sources. According to Section 17 of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, the central bank can provide liquidity support to any lender in the form of loans and advances against collateral such as stocks, funds and securities (other than immovable property) in which a trustee is authorised to invest trust money by an Act of Parliament. According to the sources, the RBI's assessment found that Yes Bank had liquidity issues but no solvency problem or any other issue. The line of credit, however, is first such exercise by the central bank. After witnessing decent recovery since the RBI superseding its board and planning out the reconstruction scheme, the stock of the bank closed over 13 per cent down at Rs 39.75 apiece on the BSE due to the coronavirus pandemic gripping the markets globally. New Delhi, Mar 11 () India's non-bank financial institutions (NBFI) will likely face renewed pressure on funding and liquidity following the RBI's takeover of Yes Bank this month, Fitch Ratings said on Wednesday. "The consequences will compound the credit squeeze across the country's financial system, adding to current economic uncertainty," it said. The move on Yes Bank comes as the impact of the coronavirus is beginning to be felt in India, raising further risks to economic growth and non-banking finance companies' asset quality. "Rising asset quality and funding risks will place pressure on ratings if conditions worsen materially," it said. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) last week seized Yes Bank after noticing a surge in withdrawals by depositors. "The NBFI sector's direct exposures to Yes Bank should be modest as a whole. Yes Bank's issues have been known for some time, and companies have had time to pare back any exposure to the bank over the past year. "Yes Bank's advances to NBFIs equated to roughly 1-2% of the NBFI sector's total bank funding, and the sector's asset exposures to the bank would be similarly moderate," Fitch said, adding the recent announcement may bring about broader contagion effects for NBFI funding conditions. The RBI's planned reconstruction scheme broadly protects the deposits and liabilities of the bank, but calls for a writedown of its Basel III AT1 instruments at present. "This may trigger another round of investor risk aversion that tightens market access and raises overall funding costs for borrowers, with wholesale NBFIs likely to remain more vulnerable in this situation," it said. There may also be knock-on effects for NBFIs if smaller private banks start to face deteriorating depositor confidence. Banks have been an important source of liquidity for NBFIs amid the funding squeeze in the local debt markets over the past 18 months, and any weakness in bank deposit funding would constrict liquidity available for lending to the NBFI sector. "An extended credit squeeze will likely exacerbate asset quality risks for the financial sector including NBFIs, which are already facing pressure from a general economic and property-sector slowdown, and an evolving COVID-19 situation," it said. "The asset quality risks that have been largely centred on wholesale property development would, in Fitch's view, start to broaden if the economy becomes more adversely affected." These events add to the challenging operating environment for Indian NBFIs, with rising uncertainty over funding conditions in the near term. Fitch said it will be monitoring the rated NBFIs' funding access and liquidity positions closely over the near term, and will assess the broader economic impact of recent developments on potential asset quality trends for any signs of deterioration that may have an impact on the ratings. We have sought a report from the Reserve Bankinto the matter. The CBI and ED have initiated action againstthe promoter (Rana Kapoor) of the bank and his relatives,"Thakur said when queried on the issue."The promoter of the bank has been arrested and hisfamily members were stopped from going abroad. The scheme was announced a day after the RBI imposed a moratorium on the bank, restricting withdrawals to Rs 50,000 per depositor till April 3. An extended credit squeeze will likely exacerbate asset quality risks for the financial sector, including non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), which are already facing pressure from a general economic and property-sector slowdown, and an evolving coronavirus situation, Fitch Ratings said in a note. "The non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) will likely face renewed pressure on funding and liquidity following the RBI's (Reserve Bank of India) takeover of Yes Bank," the rating agency said. Under the scheme, the additional tier-1 (AT1) capital, issued by the Yes Bank under basel-III framework, will have to be written down permanently.
