Mehta contended before a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan that it's not in the interest of students to not hold exams. He asked the top court for time to file a reply to Delhi and Maharashtra governments' affidavits, wherein they said they had decided to cancel the exams in state universities. The petitioners' counsel contended that the UGC guideline for holding exams are "not legally or constitutionally valid". Mehta argued that Delhi's and Maharashtra's decisions to cancel exams in their respective state universities are against the UGC rules. He argued that the UGC is the only body that can prescribe rules for conferring a degree, and the state governments cannot change the rules. The counsel for one of the petitioners replied that there is complete inconsistency in the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC guidelines. The top court adjourned the hearing till Friday, after the UGC asked for time to respond to the affidavits filed by Delhi and Maharashtra. Yet, that is exactly what college students at <keyword id="6355856" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Magadh-University">Magadh University</keyword> in <keyword id="30033" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bihar">Bihar</keyword>, India want because of an unexplained delay that could prolong their undergraduate programmes by at least two years. The students are so frustrated by staff incompetence and continuing delays in their annual exams, they have now <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WGX7o26IwQ&amp;feature=youtu.be">taken</a> to YouTube, launching a searing protest campaign demanding timely tests. “For the past month, we have been running around government offices, but defeated, we went to the university administration to allow us a peaceful protest -- but even that was declined,” one student said in the video titled #mulea, short for Magadh University Late Exam Andolan.

 Some students claimed in the video they have not even written a single exam in over two years years, which has delayed their programs to five years instead of three, causing much anguish and worry over their prospects. According to a recent public notice posted on the university’s website, second semester exams for certain undergraduate courses were postponed until June due to India’s Lok Sabha elections. Reasons behind the previous exam delays are unclear. “This affects our careers and our lives,” another student can be heard saying. While several others chimed in with their impassioned pleas for exams, while vowing to keep supporting the protest. Bodh Gaya, Bihar- based Magadh University, is a private university that has 44 constituent and 105 affiliated colleges under it and offers several diploma and degree courses, according to its website. The university was founded in 1962 in “a sprawling campus of 460 acres of land enjoying the spiritual breeze of the Bodhi Tree which enlightened Lord Buddha,” <a href="https://www.magadhuniversity.ac.in/aboutus.php">reads</a> its website. The university authorities could not be reached immediately for comment. The state of Bihar is notorious for lax regulation and students cheating on exams. These jobs tend to provide long-term stability. Test-takers have another three hours to write a policy essay.After the exam, successful applicants proceed to specialized tests and interviews for specific departments. 1.5 million people signed up for a brutal 5-hour test to land a coveted government job in China

Bengaluru, Bowing to the vociferous demand from anxious students, the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) has postponed its final semester exams from September 21 owing to the grim Covid situation in the state, an official said on Thursday. "The semester exams for law courses have been postponed from September 21 and intermediate exams from October 5 as sought by the students in view of the pandemic still persisting across the state, a KSLU official from Hubballi in the state's northwest region told IANS. The decision to postpone the exams was taken after consultations with State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswsamy here on Wednesday. "Final year exams, however, will be conducted online in October, as directed by the Bar Council of India," said the official. The university will commence regular classes online from September 1 to make up for the time lost as colleges remained shut since April under the Covid-induced lockdown restrictions. The semester and intermediate exams will be held only after classes resume regularly for 45 days to two months. "Though the students will be temporarily promoted to the next semester based on their performance in the internal exams held till March, but they have to take the exams when they are held in the near future," asserted the official. The state higher education department had earlier decided to promote the under-graduate and post-graduate students to the next semester, as classes could not be resumed due to the extended lockdown and Covid crisis. Hundreds of students of the law colleges across the state expressed relief over the university postponing the exams, as many of them from outside the state and rural areas had been staying back at home as educational institutes continued to remain shut in this academic year. After all, the former factory worker has his own construction materials business and is a millionaire, per AFP. But he has always harbored dreams of going to college."It's an uncomfortable thought that I didn't manage to get a college education," <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20230607-self-made-millionaire-sits-china-s-university-exams-for-27th-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liang told AFP</a> earlier this month. "I really want to go to university and become an intellectual."To do that, Liang needs to take China's once-a-year college entrance exam, or gao kao — a make-or-break mother of all exams that's like the SAT, ACT, and all of the AP tests rolled into two days, as <a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-gao-kao-2-days-china-exams-high-school-2023-6">Insider's Matthew Loh</a> put it. The process is so intense that police are often deployed to maintain order on the roads and in schools on the days of the exams.Liang started taking the exam in 1983 when he was 16 but gave up for about a decade from 1992 as the test was only for single people under the age of 25, per AFP. He resumed the process again in 2001 when those limits were lifted.To set himself up against 13 million high school seniors taking the same exam, Liang told the news agency he lived "the life of an ascetic monk" for the few months before the test and studied for 12 hours each day.Still, Liang failed again — falling 34 points short of the Sichuan provincial baseline score for getting into any university, per AFP."Before I got the result, I had a feeling that I wouldn't be able to get a high enough score to enter an elite university," he told the media outlet. "But I didn't expect to not make it into the ordinary ones."After trying and failing for 40 years, Liang's now unsure if he'll give the exam another shot.
