Beijing, July 12 (IANS) Chinese smartphone manufacturer <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> has patented a new smartphone with an all-around screen like Mi Alpha with a single 108MP camera. The patent was filed by Xiaomi in January but the documentation, as well as images, were only published recently, reports GizmoChina. In terms of design, the main display flows over the edges of the device and even loops around to reach the back panel. On the back, there is a second display that starts just millimeters from where the front one ends. There's only one physical key (power button) and a secondary mic at the top, whereas the bottom houses the speaker, primary mic, and USB Type-C port. Earlier, the company also patented a new dual-display smartphone with quad rear cameras set-up. According to the patent, the primary display is like any other phone with ultra-slim bezels and earpiece up top. The secondary display on the new Xiaomi-patented phone is as small in size as the quad-camera housing on the back.

The <keyword id="17403" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="patent">patent</keyword> was spotted on the QCC app and could be for the Mi MIX 4 Pro Max or the Mi MIX Fold, reports <keyword id="2666663" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gizmochina">GizmoChina</keyword>. The smartphone might launch with an outward-folding mechanism, much like the Huawei Mate Xs. As per the report, the foldable device will feature dual displays and will feature the flagship-grade <keyword id="104695" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qualcomm">Qualcomm</keyword> <keyword id="1246180" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="snapdragon">Snapdragon</keyword> 888 processor, paired with a 7-inch folding display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. On the rear, the primary camera sensor will be a 108MP shooter. Under the hood, a large 5,000mAh battery pack will reportedly power the device, which will also support 67W fast charging as well. Earlier, Xiaomi had filed a patent for a foldable smartphone with a quad-camera system that rotates forward for selfies and back for regular photos. Xiaomi is yet to announce any futuristic fitness band like this but it looks more of a concept device. The company has made concept devices such as the Mi Mix Alpha which has a surround display that wraps around the phone. As for the Mi Band X, it isn’t the first time we’re hearing of this concept. The wearable even has a 5-megapixel camera. The Mi Band X would be more futuristic though, with its expected features like a transparent display that takes up the entire device. The company is working on two new phones code named Gaugin and Gaugin Pro. The Pro model is said to come with a 108MP sensor and the base model will have a 64MP sensor, reports GSMArena. As per the report, both the phones will be launched under the <keyword id="2415488" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Redmi">Redmi</keyword> sub-brand, and there is no official launch date yet. The right-side of the foldable phone has the volume button and the power key. The device has a USB Type-C port and a speaker grille at the bottom. Xiaomi has also patented a smartphone that is likely to be a clamshell flip phone with dual camera and selfie display. The company patented a device at Chinese National Intellectual Property Association (CNIPA) with a design similar to a certain Samsung phone -- two cameras and a tiny horizontal display on the cover. Curiously, the company is doing this without actually bringing its smartphones to the US. The company entered US with its accessories. Xiaomi is now officially selling products, like the 10,000mAh <keyword id="6472977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mi-power-bank-pro">Mi Power Bank Pro</keyword>, audio accessories, select cameras and lifestyle devices like the Mi Body Composition Scale and <keyword id="3948696" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mi-Electric-Scooter">Mi Electric Scooter</keyword> in that market. Unlike India and China, patent enforcement procedures in the US are strict. Also, phones are sold through carriers in the US. To tackle this, Xiaomi has been working towards building its patent war chest. This will help the company avoid patent disputes in the long run. There are many buyers that purchase phones from service providers like Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile rather than buying unlocked phones. Coming from China brings another diplomatic complication for the company as well. Amid the controversy, six top US intelligence officials advised Americans to avoid using their products or services. So, it is essential for Xiaomi to navigate through potential concerns from US authorities and intelligence officials. This will help the company evade legal troubles and delaying Xiaomi’s its American dream. Xiaomi has never said no to the US market and has been slowly creeping towards it, but for now, its focus remains on markets like China and India, where it has an established market presence. Before making any assumptions, we must consider that the US market is disparate to the India and the China markets in many ways. It’s a wise move to put controlled investment in such an important market, especially when it does not mix well with the company’s existing business model. It’s not about hesitancy, but more about understanding the market and taking conscious business decisions in accordance with it.

But that's fine, because it's just a concept that no one can buy or use right now.However, Xiaomi appears to have thought of that, even for the concept. The company said the Mi Mix Alpha's glass is 2.88g sapphire. To be honest, I'm not sure that that means, but I do know that sapphire is designed to be extremely scratch-resistant.&#xa0;Oh, and the Mi Mix Alpha's frame would be made of "TC4 aerospace-grade titanium alloy" that Xiaomi says is three times as strong as steel. Casual.&#xa0;There's no telling how much this marvel costs, or even if it'll ever make it to store shelves. After all, Xiaomi itself said it's a concept.
