Beijing, July 12 (IANS) Chinese smartphone manufacturer <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> has patented a new smartphone with an all-around screen like Mi Alpha with a single 108MP camera.<br /><br />The patent was filed by Xiaomi in January but the documentation, as well as images, were only published recently, reports GizmoChina.<br /><br />In terms of design, the main display flows over the edges of the device and even loops around to reach the back panel. On the back, there is a second display that starts just millimeters from where the front one ends.<br /><br />There's only one physical key (power button) and a secondary mic at the top, whereas the bottom houses the speaker, primary mic, and USB Type-C port.<br /><br />Earlier, the company also patented a new dual-display smartphone with quad rear cameras set-up.<br /><br />According to the patent, the primary display is like any other phone with ultra-slim bezels and earpiece up top. The secondary display on the new Xiaomi-patented phone is as small in size as the quad-camera housing on the back.<br />

<ul><li>A leak suggests Xiaomi is working on a futuristic <keyword id="2144487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="fitness-band">fitness band</keyword> with a wraparound display.</li><li>It’s said to feature a transparent display with a magnetic buckle.</li><li>The fitness band is dubbed ‘<keyword id="11746647" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mi-band-x">Mi Band X</keyword>’ and it will have a 360-degree display design.</li></ul>Xiao<keyword id="50098" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mi">mi</keyword>’s future fitness band could have a display that wraps around your wrist. Dubbed the ‘Mi Band X’, this fitness band will not have a band or clasp but will instead use a magnet to fit both ends. This will be completely different from the current fitness bands <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/xiaomi-has-overtaken-apple-as-the-worldaposs-second-biggest-smartphone-seller-hereaposs-how-the-major-players-rank-/slidelist/84474479.cms">Xiaomi</a> offers under its Mi-series. It will also be very futuristic among fitness bands and trackers in general.<br /><br />Details of the Mi Band X were <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/leak_suggests_that_xiaomi_is_working_on_a_mi_band_x_with_a_360_flexible_display-news-50274.php">leaked</a> on Chinese blogging site Weibo (via GSMArena). The leak shows pictures of presentation slides explaining the product. The Mi Band X is said to offer a 360-degree display design, and it will be thin and light. It could also feature a transparent display, according to an image shared on the site. The display on the Mi Band X is also said to be scrollable.<br /><br />Xiaomi is yet to announce any futuristic fitness band like this but it looks more of a concept device. The company has made concept devices such as the Mi Mix Alpha which has a surround display that wraps around the phone. As for the Mi Band X, it isn’t the first time we’re hearing of this concept. The<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/nubia-unveils-alpha-the-world-s-first-commercially-available-wearable-phone-with-a-flexible-display-1027990124"> Nubia α (Alpha)</a> showcased at MWC 2019, attempts to offer something similar with its wearable phone functionality. It has a 4.01-inch foldable flexible display with support for mid-air gestures. It has features like Bluetooth calling, sports and health monitoring, and real-time message reminders. The wearable even has a 5-megapixel camera.<br /><br />The Mi Band X would be more futuristic though, with its expected features like a transparent display that takes up the entire device. Xiaomi says the Mi Mix Alpha's screen would be made of sapphire glass, which is extremely scratch-resistant.&#xa0;</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.</a></li></ul><p>Chinese tech giant Xiaomi just revealed on Tuesday a new 5G concept smartphone called the <a href="https://twitter.com/Xiaomi/status/1176475116915646464?s=20">Mi Mix Alpha.</a> It has a screen that wraps almost all the way around the phone, and it looks utterly incredible.&#xa0;</p><p>The only thing preventing the screen from wrapping around the phone entirely is a thin ceramic strip along the back where the Mi Mix Alpha's triple-lens camera system is seated.&#xa0;</p><p>The Mi Mix Alpha doesn't look like a phone you'd ever want to put down on any surface for the fear of scratching it. But that's fine, because it's just a concept that no one can buy or use right now.</p><p>However, Xiaomi appears to have thought of that, even for the concept. The company said the Mi Mix Alpha's glass is 2.88g sapphire. To be honest, I'm not sure that that means, but I do know that sapphire is designed to be extremely scratch-resistant.&#xa0;</p><p>Oh, and the Mi Mix Alpha's frame would be made of "TC4 aerospace-grade titanium alloy" that Xiaomi says is three times as strong as steel. Casual.&#xa0;</p><p>There's no telling how much this marvel costs, or even if it'll ever make it to store shelves. After all, Xiaomi itself said it's a concept. <ul><li>The Android maker could have multiple foldable smartphones in the works.<br /></li><li>So far, documents have reportedly revealed two foldable <keyword id="576817" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pixel" source="Orion">Pixel</keyword> phones – <keyword id="12130991" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jumbojack" source="Orion">Jumbojack</keyword> and Passport.<br /></li><li>It’s not clear yet if <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> is merely testing these prototypes or if it actually intends on launching them commercially.<br /></li></ul>Google is reportedly working on a Galaxy Fold-style foldable smartphone, according to code found in the upcoming Android 12.1 update. The mentions of the Pixel <keyword id="2876344" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foldable-phone" source="Orion">foldable phone</keyword>, codenamed ‘Jumbojack’, were found in the mid-cycle Android 12.1 update by <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/09/18/pixel-fold-jumbojack-android-12-1/">9to5Google</a>.<br /><br />It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Google has been reported to work on a foldable smartphone. Earlier last year, mentions of a Pixel phone codenamed ‘Passport’ were found in <a href="https://9to5google.com/2020/08/05/google-pixel-foldable-leaked-document/">leaked documents</a>, hinting at the first foldable smartphone under the Pixel brand name.<br /><br />Android 12.1 is likely to be a mid-cycle update to Android 12, which is all set to launch in the coming weeks. The report points to an unnamed source and states that it has corroborated the mentions of ‘Jumbojack’ in documents which also mention the other Pixel foldable phone, ‘Passport’.<br /><br />While the code doesn’t actually specify what kind of a foldable phone Jumbojack is, it mentions the ‘posture’ of the device – as in, whether it is half-opened, flipped, open or closed.<br /><br />The report further adds that Jumbojack could feature two displays, with the inner display becoming unavailable when the phone is closed. This could be similar to the <a>Galaxy Z Fold 3</a>, <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword>’s latest foldable smartphone. Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi also dipped its toes in the foldable phone category with the Mi Mix Fold. Oppo showed off its foldable phone concept with the X 2021.<br /><br />That said, Samsung is the only mainstream smartphone maker to make a wide rollout of foldable phones. Google could be working on a Galaxy Fold-style foldable smartphone

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Xiaomi</span></p><p class="caption">that screen tho</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has announced a new phone - and it's an absolute stunner.</p><p>The Mi Mix, announced at an event in Beijing on Tuesday, was designed with the help of iconic designer Philippe Starck. It has a huge 6.4-inch edge-to-edge screen taking up almost the entire front of the device, it's made from ceramic, and has some high-end specs. All in all, it looks <em>very</em> nice.</p><p>Interestingly, it's described as a "concept phone" - but unlike most concept products, you can actually buy it. When launched, it will go for 3499 RMB ($517) for the cheaper 4 GB RAM / 128 GB storage version, and 3999 RMB ($590) for the 6 GB RAM / 256 GB storage model (with gold trimmings!).</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Xiaomi</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Xiaomi is sometimes referred to as the "Apple of China" - not only because of the loyalty of its fans, but also because of how suspiciously similar many of its products look to Apple's. Jony Ive, Apple's design chief, has even sniped at the Chinese rival over this, <a href="http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/10/10/apples-jony-ive-has-harsh-words-for-xiaomi/">labelling its derivative aesthetic</a> "theft."</p><p>But the Mi Mix doesn't look like anything else on the market. Xiaomi boasts it has a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio; the iPhone 7 Plus is 67.7%, while Google's new Pixel XL is 71.2%. The vast screen has actually forced Xiaomi to move the front-facing "selfie" camera, normally at the top of the device, down to the bottom right.</p><p>It's a powerful phone, too. The 'Apple of China' is making a gorgeous new phone with an edge-to-edge screen

This is so there's room for a selfie camera on a phone with an edge-to-edge screen.</p><p>But Apple won't be the first company to release a phone with a notch. </p><p>The Essential Phone, by Android creator Andy Rubin's new company, is the first phone with a distinctive status bar cutout. It's up for pre-order now, and the tech industry's top reviewers and critics (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/essential-phone-smartphone-hands-on-2017-8">including Business Insider</a>) have already had a chance to try the phone out and see what they think of the concept of a notch. </p><p>Turns out, the notch isn't actually that big of a deal, according to early reviewers. Here's what people are saying about the Essential Phone's cutout: </p><p>Dieter Bohn, <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2017/8/18/16165040/essential-phone-review-android-andy-rubin">The Verge</a>: </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"There's a cutout at the top for the selfie camera (and a couple of sensors) shaped like a little U, splitting the status bar in half between notifications and your radio status icons.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">That cyclops eye seems like the sort of thing that would be distracting, but in my experience it becomes invisible almost immediately. Ninety-five percent of the time Android doesn't put anything of value in that particular part of the screen anyway, and the phone is adept at keeping apps that go truly full screen (like video) letterboxed in. In order to show off the icons of applications that have generated notifications, the PH-1 applies a lampshade effect to that area of the screen. This can slice the upper parts of some compatible apps in half (see: Snapchat), while others just ignore it entirely (Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Lyft, Pinterest, Instagram, and a host of others that I tested).</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">In landscape mode, Hearthstone just squares off the U-shaped upper cutout and ignores it entirely. The same thing goes for YouTube video and most other programs. That's better than the alternative of having a camera-shaped bite taken out of the side of some footage, but it makes the iconic display feel less useful."</p><p>Chris Davies, <a href="https://www.slashgear.com/essential-phone-first-impressions-18495628/">Slashgear</a>: </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"<span>With the iPhone 8 widely expected to have a notch of its own at the top of the screen - albeit in a different shape - I was curious to see how intrusive the Essential Phone's cutout would be in everyday use. Turns out, after the initial wow-factor, you don't really notice it. Android's status and notification bar naturally spreads its icons and alerts to either side, and since it's usually black the section that isn't screen simply blends in."</span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>"It gets slightly different when you're watching full-screen content, but even then not as much as you might predict. Since the Essential Phone's screen has a 19:10 aspect ratio, but most widescreen video is 16:9, there are naturally black bars either side: enough, certainly, to obscure the notch.
