<ul><li>Scientists successfully performed the world’s smallest <keyword id="50675" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MRI">MRI</keyword> on iron and titanium atoms. </li><li><keyword id="31803" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Magnetic-resonance-imaging">Magnetic Resonance Imaging</keyword> (MRIs) is usually done on human structures to detect tumors and structure of joints. </li><li>The technique thus developed is expected to help scientists to introduce new drugs in the biological structures and medicine.</li></ul>Scientists have performed the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/01/science/microscope-atom-magnetic-mri.html">world’s smallest MRI</a> on single atoms using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) — the very same used to detect joint structures and tumours at hospitals. This time around, MRI technology was used to measure magnetic fields and spins of a single atom — the smallest existing chemical element, according to the Journal <keyword id="1615872" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nature-Physics">Nature Physics</keyword>. In this case, the scientists from IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose and the Institute for Basic Sciences in Seoul, used <a href="https://www.upi.com/Science_News/2019/07/01/Scientists-perform-worlds-smallest-MRI-on-single-atoms/5911562010117/">iron and titanium</a> atoms for the experiment. The researchers came up with an MRI machine that can measure millions of spins of not just organs and body structures, but the tiniest particles as well, improving the quality of quantum research. What happens in an MRI? The machine uses strong magnets to create a <a href="https://www.sciencealert.com/a-teeny-tiny-mri-machine-has-imaged-the-magnetic-fields-of-single-atoms">magnetic field around the human structure,</a> which in turn changes the spin of protons in the nucleus of the body. This aligns to the spin in the motion of magnetic fields. The energy then released by protons are detected by sensors and translated into an image. However, in the case of atoms, the scientists used <keyword id="942788" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="scanning-tunneling-microscope">scanning tunneling microscope</keyword> as the tiny MRI machine to produce an image of individual atoms. A bunch of magnetised iron atoms was fastened on the tip. Using radio frequency pulse, the energy produced by the electrons was pictured. The technique is expected to help scientists to introduce new drugs in the biological structures and medicine. “We can now see something that we couldn’t see before. World’s smallest MRI scanned — and it did not capture the human body this time

<ul><li>The Health Ministry has proposed to drop NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination) for admission to MD and MS courses. </li><li>The admission will be based on the scores in the MBBS final examination and National Exit Test (NEXT). </li><li>The candidates wanting to enroll in PG courses in AIIMS will still have to go through the mandatory entrance exam. </li><li>NEET Super Speciality exam will also be mandatory to study Master of Surgery (Mch). </li></ul>MBBS pass outs might not have to go through an entrance exam to pursue post-graduate courses, if a proposal by Health Ministry goes through. It wants to drop NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination) for admission into MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Science) courses. If the draft National Medical Commission (NMC) bill goes through, students can be admitted based on score in the MBBS final examination and National Exit Test (NEXT), PTI<a href="https://www.thehindu.com/education/health-ministry-bill-proposes-to-axe-neet-pg/article28430886.ece"> reported</a>. They will also not be required to go through a separate examination to secure a licence to practice medicine, according to the proposed draft. The draft excludes All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from the given criteria. The candidates wanting to enroll in PG courses in AIIMS will still have to go through the mandatory entrance exam. In addition to this, the NEET Super Speciality exam will also be mandatory to study Master of Surgery (Mch). The draft NMC Bill was tabled in the Parliament in 2017. It focussed at introducing a ‘bridge course’ that will enable medical practitioners of alternative medicine to pursue allopathy. However, it faced criticism from medical professionals and health associations in India. The bill was later revised with several amendments including aggressive punishments for unauthorised practice of medicine — a year long imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹500,000. However, to address the shortage of medical professionals, the government has <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/4800-mbbs-seats-reserved-for-economically-weaker-students-5826733/">allocated 26% more seats</a> for MBBS aspirants in the last two years — reserving nearly 5,000 seats for economically weaker sections. Overall, nearly 80,000 students take admission in MBBS courses every year in 480 institutes across the country. Of this, 150,000 take the entrance examination to enroll in PG courses. MBBS doctors can skip entrance exams for MD and MS courses, if Health Ministry has its way

This means that the medical aspirants will no longer have to go through a separate examination to secure a licence to practice medicine, or to enroll in postgraduate programmes. In fact, NEXT will also be considered as a screening exam for foreign medical aspirants. In a bid to have uniformity across institutions, the bill also seeks to rope in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Institute of National Importance (INIs) into the given criteria. “At present, we have NEET and entrance exams for AIIMS. Now, we will also have an exit exam that will be for everyone for getting a licence to practice medicine in the country," Mint <a href="https://www.livemint.com/politics/policy/cabinet-approves-bill-to-replace-mci-with-national-medical-commission-1563360408508.html">reported</a> citing Union minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword>. The NMC, which will substitute the Medical Council of India(MCI), will be set up to take over the responsibilities of conducting common entrances for MBBS, streamlining the course and fees. Under this, the government will introduce fee relaxation for students enrolling in private institutions. “The Medical Assessment and Rating Board will grant permission for new medical colleges, starting PG courses and increasing seats based on the standards set by the UG and PG boards,” the Cabinet noted. The NMC will constitute three autonomous bodies — Under-Graduate Medical Education Board, Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, and Ethics and Medical Registration Board — which will focus on ensuring global standards of education. Every year, 80,000 students take admission in MBBS courses across the country. While 150,000 take the entrance examination to enroll in 50,000 seats for PG courses. FACEBOOK GOES AFTER LINKEDIN: In a recent <a href="https://developers.facebook.com/roadmap/">announcement</a> outlining changes to its Ads API program, Facebook said it would be improving its ad targeting methods. Much of the press following the announcement focused on how Facebook was making it easier for advertisers to target users based on behaviors and interests. However, one aspect that was largely overlooked is that beginning in March advertisers will be able to target Facebook users based on their employer and job title. 
The change indicates that Facebook wants to attract more B2B marketers and recruiting professionals, an audience that LinkedIn has been extremely successful with. LinkedIn's recruiting tools (called Talent Solutions) generated nearly $225 million in the third quarter, or 57% of the company's revenue. 
Consumer brands can take advantage of targeting by profession as well. "If consumers used to work at Goldman Sachs, for instance, they're much more likely to have a high discretionary income," Matt Britton, CEO of digital agency MRY, told Digiday. GOOGLE ACQUIRES A.I. STARTUP: Google has acquired artificial intelligence startup DeepMind for $400 million. The company specializes in developing learning algorithms for games, e-commerce, and simulations. One person described DeepMind as "the last large independent company with a strong focus on artificial intelligence," according to Re/code. DeepMind and Google competed in hiring A.I. experts, leading us to believe that the deal is largely a talent acquisition.
