According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/india/indias-unemployment-rate-climbed-to-7-2-percent-in-february-report-2057061.html">unemployment rate</a> in India increased to 7.2% in February 2019, compared to 5.9% last year in February. It was the highest since September 2016. The number of employed professionals were recorded to be 400 million in 2019, compared to 406 million last year during the same time period, Mahesh Vyas, head of CMIE, <a href="https://thewire.in/labour/india-unemployment-jobs-cmie">told</a> Reuters. The downward projection is regardless of the narrowing figures in terms of <keyword id="6367340" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Job-seekers">job seekers</keyword> and labour participation in the country, he added citing an estimated fall in the labour participation rate. The figures drawn in the CMIE report are an outcome of tens of thousands of households across India. The bleak scenario of unemployment will be a setback for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, considering the upcoming general elections. As per an analysis report by CMIE released in January this year, demonetisation has had a great impact on <keyword id="973510" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="unemployment-in-india">unemployment in India</keyword>. The survey titled ‘Future of Workplaces’ by Kronos Incorporated has shown that India’s working population might even give up on a family vacation while wanting ‘more time’ to acquire new skills or certifications. The <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/lifestyle/four-day-work-week-in-india-are-indian-employers-and-employees-ready-for-longer-weekends/1511887/">concept </a>of a four days work week, however, is not new. It aims to enhance productivity of employees while at work along with providing them a sense of satisfaction from the job. Interestingly, a whopping 69% of full-time employees in India said that they would choose to work five days a week, even if they get paid equally for working fewer days followed by Mexico and the US, where the workforce is willing to work five days a week. Keeping work flexibility a priority to retain talent, more companies are now emerging with better work schedules, including <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/in-india-flexibility-overpowers-pay-hike-on-job-change/articleshow/67975325.cms">remote work policy</a>. Globally, over half of the employees worldwide feel pressured to work extra hours to grow professionally, the survey highlighted. While Indians (62%) feel the most pressure to extend their work hours. The global survey examined 3,000 employees across eight countries — India, the US, Germany, Canada, France, Mexico, UK and Australia. On the personal bucket list, however, globally, nearly 43% of the people want to travel, if given a chance. While 29% of the people worldwide wish to pursue their hobbies. While the employed professionals in France, Germany, the US and the UK prioritised ‘sleep’ above any other thing. What people really do when at work

If anything has been a casualty of the Great Recession, it's America's traditional <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/americans-overestimate-retirement-savings-2012-4" target="_blank">vision of retirement</a> - clocking out at age 65 and settling into a condo in Florida.
Instead, workers today are coming to grips with the very realistic notion that they <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/why-gen-x-and-y-want-to-work-in-retirement-2012-4" target="_blank">may work well into their 70s.</a>
But is that really such a bad thing? 
"For some people continuing to work is an economic necessity due to shrinking nest eggs and rising medical costs," Ken Budd, executive editor of <a href="http://www.aarp.org/magazine/">AARP The Magazine</a>, told Business Insider. 
"As people not only live longer, but continue to feel healthy, why slow down? The rocking chair is out, entrepreneurship is in," says Budd. "Older Americans are driving much of the growth in new businesses. People want to feel productive, regardless of age." 
Here are a few smart reasons you may want to rethink your <keyword id="25452" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="retirement">retirement</keyword> plans:
<h3>1. It will make you fat.</h3>
Researchers have found a link between approaching retirement age and expanding waistlines. 
"People who are close to retirement age show the highest rates of weight gain and obesity," write the authors of <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19357073" target="_blank">"The Effect of Retirement On Weight,"</a> published in the Journal of Psychological Science.
More than 37,000 individuals aged 50 to 71 were analyzed over a 10 year period. Retirees averaged a 0.24 increase in their Body Mass Index. 
"Given the increasing number of people approaching retirement age, the population level impact of the weight gain ascribed to retirement on health outcomes and health care system might be significant," they conclude.
<h3>2. You've relied on your partner for financial security.</h3>
In the same University of Missouri study, Prof. Yao found spouses who retire around the same time could be setting themselves up for financial failure.
"It makes sense that many married couples would want to retire around the same time," Yao says. "However, if both spouses decide to retire close to the end of an up market, the household would have little to no cushion should their retirement portfolios be affected by an economic downturn."
That's not to say couples can't sail off into retirement together, but it further drives home the need to carefully plan out each step of the road to retirement - hopefully under guidance from a financial planner or at least with a carefully calculated retirement savings goal in mind. 
<h3>3. You're only following the crowd.</h3>
"I have spoken with many retirees who retired because that was the logical thing to do, or because all their friends had crossed over to retirement, leaving them to be the unbearable odd man out," says Jim Heafner of <a href="http://heafnersolutions.com/" target="_blank">Heafner Financial Solutions, Inc.</a>
But "some never find the satisfaction that their work provided," he says. "Others retire only to discover that they weren't financially prepared. They learn firsthand how small the job market is for 60-year-olds. Typically, they cannot find a job that pays nearly as well as the one they just retired from." 
<h3>4. It can lead to early death.</h3>
In <a href="http://www.voxeu.org/index.php?q=node/7766" target="_blank">a study</a> led by University of Zurich economist Josef Zweimuller, researchers found groups of blue collar workers who retired three years earlier than a control group had <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/early-retirement-can-kill-2012-5#ixzz2AA1fQz4O" target="_blank">far higher mortality rates.</a> In fact, for every year of early retirement, they shaved about two months off their lives. 
Zweimuller and his fellow researchers attributed the trend to decreased mobility, which, including aforementioned weight gain, can lead to depleted cardiovascular and mental health.
<h3>5. You haven't figured out your "number" yet.</h3>
Do you know exactly how much liquid assets you'll need to carry yourself through retirement? If you can't answer 'yes', chances are you're not ready for the golden years.
Nickel, the anonymous blogger behind Five Cent Nickel, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/its-smarter-to-base-your-retirement-savings-on-expenses-not-on-income-2012-9#ixzz2AA7UQFVV" target="_blank">takes a slightly different approach</a> than basing future needs on your current income:
"Start by estimating your post-retirement expenses. Average it out across a year. From there, estimate what sort of investment returns you'll be able to generate - yes, you'll need a crystal ball for this.
"From there, divide that rate (as a decimal) into one to find your multiplier. So, for example, if you think you can generate 4% real returns (i.e., 4% returns after accounts for inflation, so more like 7% nominal returns) then you'll need 25x your annual expenses (1 / 0.04 = 25). If you think you'll only be able to generate 3% real returns, then you'll need 33x your expenses. And so on."
<h3>6. You'll miss being challenged.</h3>
"The people who do retirement right are the ones who say, 'I seem busier now than I was when I was working,'" says <a href="http://www.aarp.org/magazine/">AARP</a>'s Budd.
"It's when you stop challenging yourself, or get in a rut, that retirement can be un-fulfilling," he says. "A lot of people define themselves through their work, and when that work is suddenly gone - when you feel like you don't have a purpose or an identity - it can be jarring."
As for proof that activity keeps retirees healthier and happier, Budd points to a Johns Hopkins University study that found volunteers who tutored struggling students in reading and math improved brain plasticity and delayed age-related neurological decline.
<h3>7. You're swimming in credit card debt.</h3>
Retiring with a significant load of credit card debt is rarely a wise route to take, says John Ulzheimer, president of <a href="http://smartcredit.com/" target="_blank">SmartCredit.com.</a>
"When it comes to credit card debt you absolutely have to get out of it before you hang up your company badge," Ulzheimer says. "It's very likely the most expensive debt you're carrying at 13% to 15% [interest] on average, and twice that in some cases. No retirement nest egg can guarantee that kind of growth." 
Think about it. For every dollar you save toward retirement, you could be paying that or more on interest on credit debt. 
"It's much easier to pay off debt with employment income than it is with retirement income, such as a pension, dividends, interest or Social Security," he adds. "You're much more nimble while you're working than you are in retirement, and you certainly don't want to come out of retirement to address debt that you knew about before you retired in the first place."
<h3>8. You've prioritized finances over fulfillment.</h3>

"People spend most of their time planning their finances for retirement, but not their fulfillment in retirement," Budd says.

"We once profiled a man who decided that for the first year of retirement he would do whatever he wanted," he says. "So he went for long walks, he skimmed the newspaper online, he sat in Starbucks and read Grisham novels."
The takeaway? Try a phased retirement plan, Budd says. You might start by paring down your work schedule to part-time work and then possible moving on to volunteer work afterward.
<h3>9. You haven't planned your will yet.</h3>
In a <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/BordersGratehouse/rocket-lawyer-make-a-will-month" target="_blank">2011 study by RocketLaywer.com</a>, more than half of Americans admitted they hadn't written a will yet - including 44% of those aged 45-64.
Without a plan in place, you could leave your estate's future in the hands of squabbling family members or your state, which would appoint an administrator to handle everything. 
"(A will) enables you to start thinking about issues like whether you have the right insurance coverage, life insurance, and ways of replacing your lost income," RocketLawyer founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/%20http://www.businessinsider.com/why-you-should-make-a-will-2011-12?op=1#ixzz2AACninnH" target="_blank">Charley Moore</a> said.

Tech companies are accelerating this trend. 
The consultancy finds that there <a href="https://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/Talent_tensions_ahead_A_CEO_briefing_3033">could be an 18 million person shortage</a> in the supply of high-skill, college-educated workers by 2020. And that's just in advanced economies; countries like China and India are going to demand more of those workers than they can supply. 
That means that companies will have to work harder than ever to attract the top talent, focusing on the sorts of amenities <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-manage-millenialls-2012-12">and workplace cultures</a> that will attract and keep the millennial generation. <a href="https://www.mckinseyquarterly.com/Preparing_for_a_new_era_of_knowledge_work_3034">According to McKinsey</a>, that means accommodating more flexible hours and a more virtual workforce. It also means keeping those scarcer, more expensive, highly-skilled employees focused on the specialized tasks that create the most value.
The flipside of that is that they're going to have to replace less specialized work. One of the biggest trends you can see in the above chart is that there's been a massive decline in the number of office support jobs. Increasingly, companies are going to look to innovative solutions and new technology to replace them.
One of the ways they're doing that is by engaging with digital technology, freelancers, and startups to do work remotely that used to require contract workers. According to <a href="http://management.fortune.cnn.com/2012/11/27/freelance-jobs/">an Elance survey</a>, 42 percent of employers say they expect to hire more freelancers in 2013 than in 2012, and a majority of freelancers expect their incomes to rise. 
And it doesn't mean companies are getting lower-quality work; it's just in shorter bursts, and in a different way. As the demand rises, companies are coming up with innovative ways to supply it. <a href="http://www.crunchbase.com/company/zirtual">Anders Jones</a>, the COO of <keyword id="419817" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="virtual-assistant">virtual assistant</keyword> company <keyword id="1779345" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zirtual">Zirtual</keyword> explains.
"We’re looking at this as collaborative consumption for human capital," says Jones. "We split the revenue 50/50 between the assistant and Zirtual. If you look at the makeup of our specific demographic, many assistants have just graduated and aren't interested in a 9-to-5 job. ZAs have the ability to move to a different city every month. The service is just transactional. It’s high-touch." 
A service letting you hire a virtual assistant for a few hours at a time, or other, on-demand services like Fancy Hands probably couldn't have existed just a few years ago. It's the culmination of a number of trends, Jones explains. 
"There are a number of things happening. The infrastructure — including the cost of laptops, etc. — is getting cheaper. There are coworking spaces and incubators. If you look at the Millennial generation, people are not content with 9-to-5 jobs. There are lots of solo practitioners doing web design. Freelancing is a big thing that’s increasing."
The workplace used to be about everyone being in the same office, able to meet at just about any time. Companies and managers will be challenged by keeping everyone on the same page, but also have more resources than ever.

For lovers of the high-intensity cycling class, SoulCycle is a lifestyle - and the studios reflect that. Aspirational words like "WARRIOR," "ROCKSTAR," and "ATHLETE" are plastered on the walls. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when a helpful woman strapped me and my cycling shoe loaners into the bike at SoulCycle's Union Square location. After a five minute arm section and cool down, we were stretching and finally unhooking our shoes from the bikes.

The demonetisation move wiped out 86% of the cash from India overnight as Rs 500 and Rs 1000 were announced as illegal tenders. 
Meanwhile, Modi appealed that large volume of liquid cash leads to corruption. 
 
"In 21st century India, there is no place for corruption. Corruption slows down growth and takes a toll on the dreams of the poor, neo-middle class and middle class," he wrote in an article posted on Linkedin.com. 
 
"Large volumes of liquid cash are a big source of corruption and black money," he said while referring to his "historic" decision on November 8 to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes with an aim of ending corruption and black money. 
 
He said all young men and women should inspire others to turn cashless and this will set the strong foundations of an India where there is no place for corruption and black money. 
 
"Today we live in an era of mobile banking and mobile wallets. Ordering food, buying and selling furniture, ordering a taxi...all of this and lot more is possible through your mobiles. Technology has brought speed and convenience in our lives," he added.

"I am sure most of you are using cards and e-wallets regularly but I thought I must share with you ways through which increased cashless transactions are possible," he said. 
 
Modi said the November 8 decision offered "a unique opportunity" for small traders, who have a central role in the economic transformation of India. 
 
"Today, our trading community has a historic chance to upgrade themselves and embrace more technology, which will bring greater prosperity," he said. 
 
He said when he made the announcement, he was aware that the people of India "will face inconvenience but I had requested the people of India to bear this short term pain for long term gain. I am happy to see that the people of India are bearing temporary difficulties for the long term gain of the nation." 
 
The Prime Minister said over the last few days, he had opportunities to travel to rural as well as urban areas in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and Punjab.
