Most analysts anticipate solid earnings and further upside for Amazon stock, driven by its cloud platform and advertising strength. Yet, concerns linger over slowing retail margins and Amazon's rising investments in other areas of its business. That includes Project Kuiper, Amazon's initiative to deploy thousands of satellites for an increased broadband network, as well as investments in AI.Here's what analysts are saying ahead of the company's earnings.<h2 id="7d0771bb-aa3e-412b-a84f-9826870e8bca">CFRA: Searching for investment balance</h2>CFRA considers Amazon a compelling multi-year profit and cashflow story, but the firm is cautious about near-term prospects. "Growth may not be linear due to a tepid consumer spending environment, lumpy AWS deal volume, and accelerated investments in areas like Project Kuiper, generative AI, same-day fulfillment, and Prime Video digital content."Analyst Arun Sundaram said this will translate into a "modest" third-quarter earnings beat. CFRA expects revenue to rise 10.5% year-over-year and GAAP operating profit to climb 36%. CFRA's estimates are at the upper end of Amazon's guidance range."Overall, investors will be looking for AMZN to strike the right balance of growth vs. investments," Sundaram said.The note said that while Amazon's operating margins are expected to continue growing into 2025, reinvestment into other areas of the business will slow this expansion.CFRA trimmed its Amazon price target to $219 a share on October 21, indicating 13% upside ahead.<h2 id="29d2fdf4-34f7-4afe-b90a-0a79ffeca902">Bank of America: Mixed results incoming</h2>BofA's Justin Post suggested investors brace for a mixed bag of third-quarter results.Bank of America views consensus revenue estimates as too high and predicts $157 billion for the quarter. However, the bank's outlook for operating profit stands above consensus views at $15 billion.The bank expects the quarter's leading growth drivers will include Amazon Web Services, the firm's AI-led cloud-computing platform. According to Post, margins here will likely be better than Wall Street is expecting"AI demand likely improved further in 3Q, and we think investors may be expecting 20% y/y growth for 3Q, which would suggest the largest 3Q in terms of sequential dollars added at $1.39bn," he said.Consumer spending uncertainty could be a concern, and BofA expects a slight deceleration in discretionary retail sales growth.The firm has a "buy" rating on the stock and a $210 price target, which implies an 8.3% gain from current levels.<h2 id="a9024ebe-7cb6-44b8-a728-de20774ef87c">JPMorgan: AWS acceleration leaves room for optimism</h2>JPMorgan cited Amazon's expanding cloud platform and solid store growth as key reasons to be bullish on the stock.The bank said easing optimizations, workload migrations, and AI's growing monetization will support further AWS acceleration through this year, leading to 20% growth year-to-date.In line with Bank of America, the firm anticipates third-quarter net sales to reach $157 billion, below consensus estimates of $157.3 billion. Meanwhile, retail profits in the last quarter faced headwinds, and consumers appear cautious about spending. Shoppers eager for a deal are weighing on Amazon's average selling prices, the bank said.JPMorgan has an "overweight" rating on Amazon and a $230 price target. This suggests an 18.6% upside from current levels.<h2 id="fb352aa7-bfbb-4165-82f3-89a50fc7ea22">Wedbush Securities: Don't worry about rising investment costs</h2>Wedbush Securities has cheered Amazon's growing cloud segment and a revenue shift toward high-margin advertising. Together, these should help offset headwinds brought on by the company's spending on investments elsewhere. "We think the risk/reward is attractive heading into results as investor expectations for 2H profitability have moderated, AWS growth continues to accelerate, and advertising momentum is building into 2025," a team of analysts led by Scott Devitt wrote.The firm said investors have toned down margin expectations due to Amazon's spending in new investment areas, such as Project Kuiper. While this may require more investment from the company over time, Wedbush doesn't expect it to impact profitability in the near-term.Wedbush reiterated its "outperform" rating and $225 price target, implying a 16% gain from current levels.<h2 id="e4b3e058-a63d-4251-8620-4b1f8f0899e3">Morgan Stanley: Bullish into 2025</h2>Analysts led by Brian Nowak focused on Amazon's fourth-quarter guidance, suggesting that the company's earnings before interest and taxes might come in lower than expected."We see AMZN's high and growing focus on lower-priced, lower-margin essentials driving merchandise margin pressure... which is holding back the near-term slope of its N. America retail profit ramp. Expected discounting in a competitive holiday season (and picky discretionary consumer) create further near-term uncertainty," they said.The bank expects fourth-quarter EBIT of around $17.5 billion, 1% below consensus expectations.But looking forward to 2025, the bank recommends sticking with the stock as retail pressures will be a short-term headwind. Corporate efficiencies and shipping costs will make lower-priced essentials profitable for the company through next year, the bank projected.Morgan Stanley has a $210 price target for the stock, representing upside of about 8% from Wednesday's share price.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Joy-Ann returned to in-office work in August for the first time in four years.</li><li>She said there are benefits to working in person, like work-life balance and socializing with peers.</li></ul>When Joy-Ann started her sales lead position at a digital marketing company in 2022, her role was completely <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-job-after-rto-mandate-never-work-office-again-2024-9">remote</a>.The 32-year-old, who asked Business Insider to omit her last name for privacy reasons, worked in an office until 2020, when much of the workforce was sent home amid the pandemic.For the past four years, she has worked from home in New Jersey, even after switching <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/baby-boomers-gen-z-sick-days-time-off-work-regret-2024-9">jobs</a> to her current role.But in August, her New York City-based company started requiring employees to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/couple-relocated-from-charleston-south-carolina-after-5-months-2024-9">work</a> in the office four days a week."I knew it was coming," Joy-Ann told BI. "I had already mentally prepared myself for it."Joy-Ann's office mandate isn't uncommon as more companies end their remote-friendly policies by the day. In September, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-ceo-return-to-office-mandate-5-days-week-2024-9">Amazon announced it would require</a> its employees to return to the office five days a week starting in January, joining the ranks of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/companies-requiring-return-to-office-rto-mandate">other companies like JPMorgan, Apple, and Disney</a>. Remote work isn't likely to vanish completely, but experts previously told BI it may be <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/remote-work-secret-weapon-battle-top-talent-rto-wfh-2024-9">relegated to a perk</a> when companies recruit new talent.As of October, Joy-Ann has been in the office for just over a month, commuting an hour and a half to and from work each day. She told BI there's a lot to like about being back in a more traditional work environment, but it hasn't made her a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employee-productivity-booming-workers-jobs-ai-stock-market-gdp-2024-3">more productive employee</a>.<h2 id="be5b3514-53aa-46ae-8070-51a6358d3201">The transition</h2>Joy-Ann said she liked the "flexibility" work from home offered her to run midday errands and create her own routine. Still, she's been pleasantly surprised by the benefits of in-office work.For instance, she said being back in the office has made her feel less tied to her desk."I found myself glued to my computer for hours on end," she said. "It felt like I had to constantly be available and engaged."Joy-Ann said she felt guilty if she actually used the flexibility remote work offered her, checking her phone constantly if she was running an errand in the middle of the day.Because she works in the office, Joy-Ann said it feels easier to step away from her desk. She also likes picking out <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/style/where-to-shop-for-womens-workwear-clothes">outfits for work</a> because she's a fashion enthusiast. Plus, her work provides free lunch, so she doesn't have to spend as much time meal prepping.At a time when companies need to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-loyalty-between-employers-employees-2024-5">build employee loyalty</a>, Joy-Ann said she appreciates that her workplace has made coming into the office feel appealing.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/work-friends-are-over-remote-jobs-gen-z-relationships-pandemic-2024-6">Socializing with coworkers</a> has been another benefit of returning to the office, as it allows Joy-Ann to have "real face time" with her team."That kind of interaction is refreshing compared to virtual meetings," she said. "There's an organic energy that comes with seeing people in person."That in-person connection can benefit people's careers, as Hannes Schwandt, an associate professor of Human Development and Social Policy, previously told BI. He said that the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/remote-work-pros-cons-younger-workers-gen-z-millennials-2020-5">networking opportunities younger employees can make</a> in the office are among the most important benefits of in-person work, and those who work completely remotely can miss out on career-building moments.For Joy-Ann, those potential networking moments are making her time at work happier, too."I'm smiling more," she said.<h2 id="b8d46833-7108-423b-82dd-378d6b0052f8">She hasn't seen a productivity boost — yet</h2>Despite the benefits, Joy-Ann told BI that working in the office has not made her more productive at her job — at least not yet."I don't think that my productivity increased whatsoever," Joy-Ann said.The sales lead said that her long commute actually makes her workday longer. She typically tries to avoid taking the train during rush hour and finds herself working until 7 p.m. most nights after she gets home."With commuting, it's taking time away from the work that you would be doing when you were at home," Joy-Ann said. She also said that although she likes socializing with her colleagues, meetings — which are already a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cutting-work-meetings-can-make-you-happier-and-more-productive-2024-7">strain on many people's work calendars</a> — can sometimes take longer because she and her peers are chatting more freely than they did when they worked remotely.But Joy-Ann doesn't think it's a bad thing that in-office work hasn't skyrocketed her productivity, as her work days feel<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-work-life-balance-advice-boss-lessons-job-2024-1"> "more balanced."</a>"I can move between meetings," she said. "Even if I'm just walking to the different meeting rooms, that's good, especially for my mental health and clarity, which I wasn't doing as much at home. I had my one spot I would sit at for maybe five or six hours straight."For now, Joy-Ann is trying to focus on the positives as much as she can."It's just up to you to figure out how are you going to deal with it and how are you going to benefit from it," she said.

The pair will provide technology and logistics support to the latest luxury giant, the Journal said. As e-commerce and the power of luxury conglomerates like <keyword id="20018817" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LVMH" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="LVMH" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="LVMH">LVMH</keyword> and Kering have grown, department stores are facing diminishing returns. In 2020, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-lord-and-taylor-history-photos-2020-8">Lord &amp; Taylor</a> filed for bankruptcy. Macy's announced in February that it would be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/macys-stores-closing-locations-list">closing 150 stores over the next three years</a>. In a way, the old palaces of retail are becoming places to browse, perhaps, but not purchase. Take somebody looking to buy a new luxury bag. They may visit Bergdorf Goodman, a Neiman Marcus-owned store in New York, to try on a few for size before setting their sights on the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/loewe-hottest-luxury-fashion-clothing-brand-2023-7">Loewe Flamenco bag,</a> an it bag from an it brand. Rather than shell out $2,600 on the spot, they may go home and give it a think — and a Google. Maybe there's a discount code available on e-commerce retailer like Net-a-Porter or Moda Operandi, known for their sales. If not, rather than schlep back to the department store, why not go straight to the source, the Loewe boutique? Like many LVMH brands, Loewe's stores have gotten upgrades in recent years and will surely roll out the royal treatment to those willing to drop a couple of grand. (And you get some nice branded packaging for any unboxing TikToks you want to do, of course.) The above situation is playing out more and more often, making the consolidation and synergies that a Saks-Neimans merger, which has been in talks for months, all the more appealing. It also makes the new company's leader — Marc Metrick, who runs Saks' e-commerce business — a natural choice. But it is worth noting that, even together, the brand is a fraction of the size of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cartier-van-cleef-richemont-winning-luxury-beating-lvmh-kering-2024-6">other luxury powerhouses</a>. The Journal estimated the combined business would have about $10 billion in retail sales — just over 10% of the $94 billion LVMH brought in last year. It may be those conglomerates, which own top brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior (LVMH) and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gucci-sales-profit-reputation-falling-luxury-kering-michele-china-2024-5">Gucci</a> and Saint Laurent (Kering), that the new Saks is trying most fervently to fend off, especially since many have their own stores or e-commerce operations. Combined, Saks and Neimans will have more negotiating power with designers, forcing them to loosen their tight control on retail channels, and be able to cut certain logistics costs. The new company can use those savings to boost marketing or the in-store experience to rival those of branded boutiques. They've got something else in the back pocket of their designer jeans. While I can certainly understand your frustration with the situation, unintentional things can and do happen in public spaces. Although it is unfortunate that you were involved in this situation, we are unable to take responsibility for the actions of another individual."Schreib pushed back and ultimately received a $50 voucher. Still frustrated, Schreib posted on X.The airline responded to Schreib by saying that it was "sorry to hear you weren't satisfied by the resolution of your claim. You can request a review by replying to the last email they sent."That's the last she heard from the airline."It's not about the money," she said. "It was about taking a little responsibility and actually apologizing for what happened."<h2>There aren't set standards for how passengers are compensated in situations like this.</h2>Schreib isn't the first airline passenger to encounter another traveler's vomit.In September, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/air-canada-passengers-kicked-off-plane-refused-puke-covered-seats-2023-9">Business Insider reported</a> that two Air Canada passengers were asked to leave a plane after they refused to sit in seats with vomit residue from a passenger on the prior flight.While many airlines have formal policies to respond to flight delays or cancelations, there are no comparable standards for this type of scenario.Katy Nastro, a travel expert at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="http://going.co/">Going.com</a> told Business Insider, "When you fly with an airline, you are agreeing to their contract of carriage, which is basically an agreement between you and the airlines based on the fact you bought a ticket."This contract might cover things like showing valid ID, dressing appropriately, and behaving respectfully."It should be the responsibility of the airline to deal with this erratic passenger upon boarding, but it isn't clear whether the cleanliness factor is guaranteed," she said. "A basic level of cleanliness sure, but if another passenger spills a drink, or in this instance gets sick and it invades the space of the other passengers, to my knowledge there is no item in American Airline's contract of carriage that promises anything in return."Going forward, Schreib said she's going to think twice before booking another American Airlines flight.
