New Delhi, <keyword id="198245" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro-consumer" source="Orion">Wipro Consumer</keyword> Care and Lighting on Tuesday announced the acquisition of three soap brands, Jo, Doy, and Bacter Shield, from VVF (India) Ltd for an undisclosed amount, a move that will help the company expand in the personal wash segment. This is the third acquisition by <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> Consumer Care and Lighting, part of Azim Premji-led Wipro Enterprises, within the last 12 months and the 15th acquisition so far, as it is aggressively expanding its portfolio. "The acquisition will be a strategic expansion for Wipro in the personal wash segment," said a statement from Wipro Consumer, which is among the leading players in the segment with sandalwood soap brand Santoor and female toiletries brand Enchanteur. Jo toilet soap has a presence in North, East and West markets, Doy operates in the premium segment with differentiated positioning, and Bacter Shield has an antibacterial range of soaps and handwash. "These brands together recorded a revenue of over Rs 210 crore during FY23," it said. In FY23, Wipro's Santoor had become the second largest player in the segment in India with sales of over Rs 2,650 crore while Enchanteur has also crossed the 1,000 crore mark. Earlier, Wipro Consumer Care, which has ambitions to become a formidable player in the fast-growing Indian food market, had acquired Nirapara and Brahmins. Vineet Agrawal, CEO of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, said these brands complement the existing portfolio and will give a stronger foothold in the key markets. "With a diverse array of brands and Wipro's robust distribution network, we are positioned to fortify our market presence and propel growth," said Agrawal, who is also Managing Director of Wipro Enterprises. This was after the company said that its upcoming quarter’s constant currency revenues could fall anywhere between 1.5-3%, after its Q2 revenues fell 2%. “We are not the only one seeing a dichotomy between volumes and revenues. For several years, we have seen growth and in the last few quarters what we are seeing is reflective of the industry,” Delaporte said at the company’s <keyword id="56260" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="Q2-earnings" source="Orion">Q2 earnings</keyword> press conference. Like many of its peers, the Bengaluru-based IT major reported rampdowns, furloughs and reductions – that’s resulted in revenue leakage. The company, which has a larger exposure to consulting business in the BFSI segment, was hit harder than its peers. The constant currency revenues of its strategic business unit Americas 1 (healthcare, consumer goods, retail and Latin America etc) grew by 0.9% QoQ, its Americas 2 unit (banking, manufacturing, hi-tech, utilities and Canada) fell by 2.6%. Europe saw a steep fall of 5.4% sequentially. “Given our strong order booking in Europe, we’re confident of a swift rebound,” said Delaporte. Top-heavy deal book The company’s total bookings for the quarter stood at $3.8 billion. Its large deal total contract value (TCV) stood at $1.3 billion – which is the highest it has seen in the last nine quarters. “Our large deals will drive quality revenue for the next year,” he said, adding that he derives confidence from the number of large deals they have booked. Yet, the total number of new customers for the quarter were at 49, which is much lower than the 65 in Q1. On a year on year comparison, its new customer number fell over a half from 128. Its total number of active customers also fell both sequentially and on an annual basis to 1,393. Explaining this, Delaporte said that the typical pyramid of large and small deals has evolved. “There are a lot less of the very very small deals. It’s our strategy that we want to reduce the number of small clients and focus on large accounts and grow them. Because, a very large number of small deals are not predictive,” he said. The company kickstarted a programme three years back to improve its margins. Even in a difficult quarter, the company said that it was able to deliver a 10 basis point improvement in operating margin to 16.1%. It also promised that it will remain range-bound without any guidance for the quarters ahead. The company said that it is confident of discretionary spending coming back to the system which will set it back on the track. “It’s very important for Wipro to keep focus on key elements of transformation,” said Delaporte.

Wipro CEO expects revenues to rebound in the next few quarters

This is the third consecutive quarter where it has reported sequential fall in revenues. Gross revenues declined 0.01% to ₹17,365 crore year-on-year. The IT major has also guided for yet another weak quarter ahead. It expects revenues to fall anywhere between 1.5-3.5% in the third quarter of FY24. The fall was steeper in its quarterly net profit, which declined by 8% in rupee terms to ₹2,667 crore against ₹2,887 crore it reported in the previous quarter. The Street was expecting Wipro to report a 1% sequential fall in constant currency revenues. In dollar terms, its IT segment revenues fell 2.3% to $2,713.3 million, the company said on Wednesday. Commenting on the quarterly numbers, <keyword id="3808309" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="thierry-delaporte" source="Orion">Thierry Delaporte</keyword>, Wipro’s CEO and MD, said: “Due to our higher exposure to the consulting and BFSI sector in the Americas, we have seen a higher than usual impact of macroeconomic conditions. As the markets start to turnaround, on the back of our transformation and efficiency plays, we expect to see improvement in the coming quarters. Wipro said that its total bookings for the quarter stood at $3.8 billion for the quarter which is 6% higher than what it was in the same quarter last year. Its large deal booking is at $1.3 billion – which is the highest it has seen in the last nine quarters. It said it has 22 accounts above the $100M range – twice as much they had in FY21. Wipro’s operating margin for the quarter was at 16.1%, up 10 bps QoQ. The company said it expects the margins to remain range-bound as seen in the last few quarters. Employees to get 80% variable pay Wipro’s voluntary attrition has continued to moderate sequentially, coming in at a nine-quarter low of 13.4% in the second quarter. The company also said it will give 80% of the variable pay to its employees based on performance. It did not disclose its plans of hiring at campuses this year. “Hiring is a function of demand and benching. We are focussed on honouring our commitments made to people before going to campuses, and there are still some offers left to honour,” said Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer at Wipro. The company’s board also approved a scheme of amalgamation to merge five of its wholly-owned subsidiaries with itself. The subsidiaries are Wipro HR Services, Wipro Overseas IT Services, Wipro Technology Product Services, Wipro Trademarks Holding and Wipro VLSI Design Services. “The scheme is subject to necessary statutory and regulatory approvals under applicable laws, including approval of the National Company Law Tribunal,” the company said. IT companies are facing demand headwinds in their key markets. Wipro, like other peers, had also indicated that its revenues could contract during the second quarter. In July, the company had said while announcing its first quarter earnings that it expected revenue from IT services to be in the range of $2,722 million to $2,805 million. This would translate to sequential guidance of -2 per cent to +1 per cent in constant currency terms.

Unlike many companies which are in the throes of a slowdown, the IT sector has bigger fish fry. European markets which are its mainstay are growing slow, and the US is dealing with recession fears. Adding fuel to the fire, the US government is making it tough for them to operate, with tighter immigration laws which are taking its toll. Yet, IT companies are showing signs of resilience. For the first time in three years, US led growth is ahead of growth from the European Union, according to Nomura’s market analysis. Ramping up operations in the US It will neither be cheaper nor easier to play a lot more in the US markets, as their ability to send employees to service the clients will not be easy. To counter the aftermath of diminishing manpower in the US, these companies have ramped up acquisition and large deals to make up for it. Infosys and TCS are the worst hit by the lack <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/amazon-facebook-apple-google-face-low-h1b-rejection-rate-while-deloitte-capgemini-suffer/articleshow/69734189.cms">of H1-B visa applications</a>. Yet, these companies are trying to gain more clients in the country and adding manpower. The acquisition and deals, in turn, are the primary reasons why momentum in US markets is greater than growth in European markets at a yearly growth rate of 12.4%. And they will continue to gain more deals, believes Nomura. The negatives bearing IT down Increased number of large size deals is causing companies to miss margin estimates. Additional pressure from increasing visa costs, rising subcontractor costs and higher salary payouts has also taken a toll on margins. Hiring has grown at a yearly rate of 10% and attrition levels remain elevated at 17% to 22%. Three out of the four Indian IT giants — TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Wipro — missing their growth expectations and all them missed margin expectations. Though IT companies chase other markets, they are not immune to Indian slowdown blues. The stagnation in growth is attributed to slowdown in banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) coupled with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/auto-sales-continue-to-decline-in-august/articleshow/70941671.cms">softness in automobile manufacturing</a>. BFSI’s soft growth and the future outlook is an indicator of the challenges that IT companies are facing in capital markets, large EU banks and regional banks in the US. Retail growth was also flat at 7% to 9%. The brighter side of IT In spite of dragging factors, the IT sector has a few fast growth segments like energy which is growing at 12.7%. Telecom is also is growing at 13.9%. The IT sector, overall, is a part of a growing disruptive transition across the country and the world — digitisation. Digital growth has also been strong for IT companies like TCS, Infosys and Wipro during the first quarter for the current financial year. They have shown quarterly growth of 42.1%, 41.9% and 34.2% respectively. Going forward, Nomura expects Indian IT companies to price their products aggressively in a bid to win more market share. The IT sector is one of the core sectors of the Indian economy. GDP growth is at 5% — a six year low for the country — and re-energising the IT sector which is a huge chunk of services sector, is a key part of the puzzle. TCS, Wipro, and Infosys are chasing growth but losing margins in the process

Two Indian <keyword id="22917" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Companies">companies</keyword>, <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword> and <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>, have been named in the list of world's most ethical companies by American think tank <keyword id="270858" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ethisphere-Institute">Ethisphere Institute</keyword>. Ethisphere honours those companies who recognise their role in society to influence and drive positive change in the business community and societies around the world. In 2017, there were 124 honorees spanning five continents, 19 countries and 52 industry sectors. "These companies also consider the impact of their actions on their employees, investors, customers and other key stakeholders and leverage values and a culture of integrity as the underpinnings to the decisions they make each day," Ethisphere Institute said. Wipro is one of the two information technology companies named in the list, the other being Xerox Corporation. Meanwhile, Tata Steel is also one of the two companies named in the metals, minerals &amp; mining space. US¬based Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc is the other company in this segment. "Companies we've honored as World's Most Ethical take a novel response to the shift in societal expectations, constant redefinition of laws and regulations, and the geo¬political climate," Ethisphere's Chief Executive Officer Timothy Erblich said. The list was dominated by US¬based companies as around 98 of the 124 companies were from that country. Also, there are 13 eleven-time honorees and eight first¬time honorees in the list. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company has been named one of the World's Most Ethical Companies for the eighth straight year. "Strong ethics and corporate citizenship are the foundation of our business philosophy, which demonstrates to our customers what we stand for as a company," Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford said.
