On the other hand, Divis Labs (down by 0.62%), SBI Life (down by 0.07%) and Dr. Reddy (down by 0.02%) were amidst the leading laggards. Out of the 2,797 stocks traded during the day, 1,872 saw advances, while 845 declined and another 80 remained unchanged. 95 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 31 stocks also hit their 52-week lows. 112 stocks hit the upper circuit, or the maximum permissible trading price of a security during a single trading session. This included <keyword id="19945904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="keywords">Ola</keyword>, which was up by 20%, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals (up by 10%) and Jindal Poly Films (up by 17.75%). 76 stocks also hit the lower circuit, which included names like MTNL, Dolphin, DCX Systems and more. Most broad market indices closed the day in green, with Nifty Next 50 inching up by 1.82%, Nifty 100 up by 1.66%, Nifty mid cap 50 up by 2.03%, Nifty small cap 50 up by 2.24% and micro caps up by 2.07%. "With the Nifty breaking out of its consolidation phase, it appears poised to close the gap around the 24,700 level. If there is any dip, the 24,300-24,400 zone should provide support. We recommend aligning trades with a focus on stock picking. In the absence of any major domestic triggers, attention will remain on global market performance for further cues", said Mishra.

He added, "The prudent strategy would be to buy between 23000 and 23200 levels with a stop loss at 23000 on a closing basis. Keep reducing positions if indices move towards 23600/23700 levels. For Bank Nifty, 51200 will be the trend-deciding level. Below this level, it could fall to 50750 or 50500, while moving above it would gradually push it towards 51750 or 52000." The key indices opened lower but renewed buying in private lenders helped the barometers reverse losses and closed in the green for the sixth consecutive session. In six days, Nifty jumped 580 points while Sensex rallied 1,984 points. "Amidst market volatility, the domestic market is once again poised to approach record highs. The latest upward trajectory is bolstered by gains in the banking sector, with private banks witnessing a rebound from a recent sharp correction," <keyword id="19969359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinod-nair" source="keywords">Vinod Nair</keyword>, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said. Stock market closes in red amid intraday volatility

New Delhi, <keyword id="198245" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro-consumer" source="Orion">Wipro Consumer</keyword> Care and Lighting on Tuesday announced the acquisition of three soap brands, Jo, Doy, and Bacter Shield, from VVF (India) Ltd for an undisclosed amount, a move that will help the company expand in the personal wash segment. This is the third acquisition by <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> Consumer Care and Lighting, part of Azim Premji-led Wipro Enterprises, within the last 12 months and the 15th acquisition so far, as it is aggressively expanding its portfolio. "The acquisition will be a strategic expansion for Wipro in the personal wash segment," said a statement from Wipro Consumer, which is among the leading players in the segment with sandalwood soap brand Santoor and female toiletries brand Enchanteur. Jo toilet soap has a presence in North, East and West markets, Doy operates in the premium segment with differentiated positioning, and Bacter Shield has an antibacterial range of soaps and handwash. "These brands together recorded a revenue of over Rs 210 crore during FY23," it said. In FY23, Wipro's Santoor had become the second largest player in the segment in India with sales of over Rs 2,650 crore while Enchanteur has also crossed the 1,000 crore mark. Earlier, Wipro Consumer Care, which has ambitions to become a formidable player in the fast-growing Indian food market, had acquired Nirapara and Brahmins. Vineet Agrawal, CEO of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, said these brands complement the existing portfolio and will give a stronger foothold in the key markets. However, investors preferred to book profits at record levels and the index declined around 835 points from the day's high to hit a low of 75,175.27. Broader Nifty of the <keyword id="6354646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE" source="Orion">NSE</keyword> declined by 24.65 points or 0.11 per cent, to end at 22,932.45. The 50-issue barometer rose by 153.7 points or 0.66 per cent to hit a new lifetime high of 23,110.80 during the day. However, it tanked around 240 points at the fag-end due to selling in oil, energy and FMCG shares. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries declined nearly 1 per cent, dragging the benchmark indices into the negative. Selling in FMCG giant ITC also eroded gains. Equity benchmarks were on a record-breaking rally for the third straight day ahead of the results of Lok Sabha polls and a rally in global markers. The results of the ongoing general elections will be declared on June 4. Sensex breached the historic 75,000-mark for the first time on April 9. It took 31 trading sessions for the benchmark to climb 1,000 points to reach the 76,000-mark on Monday. The BSE benchmark took 21 trading sessions to reach 75,000-mark on April 9 after hitting the 74,000-level on March 6. From the Sensex pack, Wipro, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, ITC and Reliance Industries were among the biggest laggards. IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Larsen &amp; Toubro and State Bank of India were among the major gainers. "The bulls are facing stiff resistance at 23,000 levels as investors start booking profit at higher levels to avoid any knee-jerk reaction in the market ahead of the election result. Better earnings growth, the expectation of a revival in private capex, and a moderation in FIIs selling intensity are the key positive triggers in the market," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said. "Nifty ended almost flat in a volatile session after hitting record highs in the early part of the session," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. Ajit Mishra - SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd said that the tone was positive in the first half, but profit-taking in heavyweights in the second half erased all the gains. In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.63 per cent while smallcap index dipped 0.09 per cent. Among the indices, oil and gas declined 0.71 per cent. Commodities (0.61 per cent), power (0.49 per cent), utilities (0.37 per cent) and consumer discretionary (0.15 per cent) also dropped. Financial Services, industrials, IT, bankex, realty and services were among the gainers. Analysts said that the presence of resistance around the 23,100 level in the Nifty, along with a rise in the volatility index, India VIX, limited the upside. India VIX, which measures market volatility surged nearly 7 per cent to 23.13 points. "Nifty remained mostly volatile during the day as India awaits the final phase of the general election (on June 1)," Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst, LKP Securities said. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory. European markets were also quoting in the green. Wall Street ended with gains on Friday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.38 per cent to USD 82.44 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 944.83 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. On Friday, the BSE benchmark dipped 7.65 points or 0.01 per cent to settle at 75,410.39. The Nifty breached the 23,000 mark for the first time on Friday. It, however, pared all the gains and ended with a marginal decline of 10.55 points or 0.05 per cent at 22,957.10.

Amid expectations of another status quo on the key interest rates, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das-headed high-powered rate-setting panel MPC on Tuesday began its three-day meeting to firm up the next bi-monthly policy. The decision of the <keyword id="6375120" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="monetary-policy-committee" source="Orion">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword> (MPC) would be announced on Thursday, August 10, by Governor Das. "An early indication from GIFT Nifty suggests a muted opening of the Indian equities, and we believe that the rangebound activity will continue. The same view holds for BankNifty. By registering a new high daily, the FMCG segment is performing as per our expectations, and we continue to maintain a positive stance. In the energy space, gas stocks are likely to extend their positive momentum (IGL and Petronet). After a day of correction, the IT sector resumed its uptrend. Meanwhile, IT services company HCL Tech on Friday posted a 20.4 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 4,257 crore for the June-ended quarter and gave a revenue growth guidance of 3-5 per cent for FY25 on GenAI diversification and strong operational execution. "On Monday, markets will react to India's inflation data. Key results this week include Jio Financial Services, HDFC Life, Asian Paints, LTIMindtree, Infosys, Wipro, JSW Steel, Paytm, etc. Also globally, investors will take cues from China's GDP numbers, US core retail sales data, and ECB (European Central Bank) interest rate decision," Siddhartha Khemka, Head, Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said. Retail inflation increased to four-month high of 5.08 per cent in June as food items, including vegetables, became dearer, according to government data released on Friday.
