New Delhi, <keyword id="198245" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro-consumer" source="Orion">Wipro Consumer</keyword> Care and Lighting on Tuesday announced the acquisition of three soap brands, Jo, Doy, and Bacter Shield, from VVF (India) Ltd for an undisclosed amount, a move that will help the company expand in the personal wash segment. This is the third acquisition by <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> Consumer Care and Lighting, part of Azim Premji-led Wipro Enterprises, within the last 12 months and the 15th acquisition so far, as it is aggressively expanding its portfolio. "The acquisition will be a strategic expansion for Wipro in the personal wash segment," said a statement from Wipro Consumer, which is among the leading players in the segment with sandalwood soap brand Santoor and female toiletries brand Enchanteur. Jo toilet soap has a presence in North, East and West markets, Doy operates in the premium segment with differentiated positioning, and Bacter Shield has an antibacterial range of soaps and handwash. "These brands together recorded a revenue of over Rs 210 crore during FY23," it said. In FY23, Wipro's Santoor had become the second largest player in the segment in India with sales of over Rs 2,650 crore while Enchanteur has also crossed the 1,000 crore mark. Earlier, Wipro Consumer Care, which has ambitions to become a formidable player in the fast-growing Indian food market, had acquired Nirapara and Brahmins. Vineet Agrawal, CEO of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, said these brands complement the existing portfolio and will give a stronger foothold in the key markets. "With a diverse array of brands and Wipro's robust distribution network, we are positioned to fortify our market presence and propel growth," said Agrawal, who is also Managing Director of Wipro Enterprises. The deal size was not disclosed by the company. The <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> group arm has signed a definitive agreement with Nirapara, a company statement said. With this acquisition, Wipro Consumer Care joins FMCG firms such as Dabur, Emami, Tata Consumer Products Ltd and ITC, which are already present in the spices market. Launched in 1976, Nirapara is known for its blended spices. Wipro acquires packaged food and spices brand Nirapara

<ul><li>In our latest interview series, we speak to a few CMOs to understand how they are helping out their organisations find the right ways to connect with consumers.</li><li>S Prasanna Rai, Vice President, Marketing, <keyword id="167620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro-Consumer-Care">Wipro Consumer Care</keyword> &amp; Lighting shares how the <keyword id="34523" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> giant is trying to keep empathy at the center of its communication during the second wave of COVID-19.</li></ul>2020 was an unprecedented experience for businesses of all kinds and sizes. When the entire country was asked to shut down in March 2020, consumer care company Wipro quickly shifted its focus to where consumers were: online. It was trying to take it one day at a time by understanding the ever-changing consumer demand and shift in the media landscape. Now that the second wave has hit the country in full force and people have been working from home for more than a year now, Wipro’s S Prasanna Rai, Vice President, Marketing, Wipro Consumer Care &amp; Lighting told us that this wave was relatively easier to handle for the organization. He said, “The first wave lockdown was a sudden unknown event with no precedent, which meant a war room kind of response with cross-functional meetings daily. This learning in the first lockdown has helped put together a set of working approaches in place, that were deployed during this second lockdown and relatively easier to handle. Product portfolio tweaking to adapt to facilitate manufacturing and supply chain, product development process continued with remote working. Consumer research was more qualitative, and with the brand teams being personally involved rather than on research team interpretation. So during the second wave, the work rhythm was more weekly than daily and also, the extent of communication and reviews required were of lesser frequency than during the first wave.” However, in this second wave, everyone is impacted directly or indirectly. As a company leader, Rai has also found his role changing lately. He has been focusing equally on the inside as much as the outside communication. Telling us how he has tried to be there for his employees, Rai said, “There is a need to lead with empathy and support. In the second wave, every individual has been impacted, either directly or indirectly. It is essential to listen to their concerns and address them empathically and be there for them in every way possible. Even a small act of help and kindness goes a long way in easing someone's woes. It is also essential to use the organisation and personal network in emergencies to put together and provide resources/medicines quickly wherever/whoever required.” Rai and his team have also changed the company’s on-ground selling process to help its sales team stay safe and secure. For example, for a <keyword id="2161100" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-product-launch">new product launch</keyword>, Wipro had the whole sales pitch in the form of a WhatsApp video. The fragrance of the product was provided in spray format to help demonstrate it. The idea was to prioritise employee’s safety and still give its consumers the touch and feel experience. “As marketers, we are custodians of our brands. We must observe, analyse and react in real-time and continue to evolve in line with the dynamic consumer behaviour. Keeping the customer at the heart of any strategy, we need to be more agile, thoughtful and resilient during these difficult times,” said Rai. Wipro's Santoor is its largest selling brand, which is also India's second largest soap brand and 35% of its business comes from the lighting segment. Even during a pandemic-hit year, Wipro saw about 14% growth in its India business in the first nine months of the fiscal ending March. As per company’s media statement, Wipro witnessed this strong performance on the back of operational efficiencies and new product launches. It had launched new products like surface sanitizers, expanded floor cleaners, anti-germ liquid detergent. Wipro is also considering launching a few products which will be exclusively available on e-commerce platforms as the company saw its e-commerce sale spike by 2X in FY21 than the previous fiscal. According to NielsenIQ’s Retail Intelligence, at the end of the December quarter, 2.8% FMCG sales in India came from e-commerce and in urban cities, it was higher at 7.5%. Apart from new launches and upping its digital game, Rai will continue to focus on communicating empathetically and connect with its customers on a personal level. Sharing his goals for this quarter, Rai said, “Every organisation and every role has now accepted that the pandemic will be around for some time and will not go away so quickly. So it is crucial to take it as part of the personal and professional life and learn to navigate this effectively. Both in personal life and on the work front, the goals continue to be the same – it is the approach to achieving these goals that are tweaked according to the current environment and having empathy, ensuring safety and allaying fears of colleagues and team members.” “Ensure every piece of communication on a brand is in the context or empathetic to the consumer's environment. In some cases, we had to change the tone and mood of the advertising to suit the circumstances without changing or altering the product/brand message much. It is also essential that the product promise we make is credible and enhances its trust,” added Rai. Wipro’s 2019-20 sales revenue stood at $1.09 billion.

Wipro consolidates presence in foods with acquisition of Kerala-based Brahmins

The investment, which is Amazon’s first in an Indian consumer brand, pegs MyGlamm’s valuation at $100 million. However, Amazon’s individual investment amount remains undisclosed. Founded in 2017 by Darpan Sanghvi and co-founded by Priyanka Gill, MyGlamm competes with the likes of SUGAR, Purplle, Plum among others. MyGlamm has over 600 products across makeup, skincare and personal care, with a content-to-community-to-commerce platform approach. “We are really excited about all that we will be able to learn from both, Amazon and Wipro Consumer along with the financial rigour that Ascent Capital brings, as we move forward to fulfil our vision of building India’s largest beauty company leveraging DTC, digital, and data,” said Sanghvi in a statement. Amazon, Wipro Consumer and Ascent Capital invest in beauty brand MyGlamm

<ul><li><keyword id="501707" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PV-Sindhu">PV Sindhu</keyword> and her agency Baseline Ventures is taking over 20 brands to court for using her image and name for moment-marketing, without her consent or proper permissions.</li><li>The agency is seeking damages of Rs 5 crore from each of the brands.</li><li>In wake of the incident, we speak to experts to understand how brands can be careful and avoid such legal complications when using <keyword id="6813822" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Moment-Marketing">moment marketing</keyword> as a strategy.</li></ul>Last week, ace shuttler made the country proud by becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. The country came together to congratulate her on her historic achievement and brands joined in, as much to congratulate her as to ride on the trend that Sindhu had created with her win. However, Sindhu is now said to be exploring legal options to take a lot of these brands to court, for using her name and image for their marketing purposes without proper authorization. In the past few years, we have seen many brands build their social presence with the help of moment marketing. We have seen brands jump in on topical conversations with their own take on something that is trending. In doing so, they have many-a-times, used individuals and their names to make the most of the trending moment. The benefits are obvious, while coming up with content that many relate with, they are also able to become a part of the conversation, making it easier for them to grab eyeballs and become a part of the conversation. However, with Sindhu taking an objection to the way her name has been used by brand, there is a chance that brands will become more careful about how they use a public personality's image or name in their content. Sindhu, who is managed by sports marketing agency Baseline Ventures, is reportedly seeking damages worth Rs 5 crore from brands that have used her name and images without her consent. Speaking on what is wrong with the way these brands have handled things, Yashwanth Biyyala, Director - Talent and Partnerships, Baseline Ventures said, “The fact that these brands used PV Sindhu’s images and name on their posts is a clear infringement on the player’s privacy. Moreover, they are also clearly flouting the norms of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that has put together clear guidelines around advertising during the tournament. In fact there was a blackout period between July 13 (when the Olympic Village opens) and August 10 (two days after the Closing Ceremony) when even brands that sponsor the player are not allowed to post about them. Only IOC and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) partners are allowed to post about the players.” In total, Baseline Ventures is taking close to 20 brands to court for flouting the rules, out of which legal notices have already been sent to 15. The brands that have already been sent notices include Happydent (Perfetti Van Melle), Pan Bahar, Eureka Forbes, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Vodafone Idea, MG Motor, UCO Bank, Punjab National Bank, <keyword id="6354731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Fino Payments Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank and <keyword id="5998660" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro-Lighting">Wipro Lighting</keyword>. Over the years, we have seen many brands build a huge social media following on the back of moment marketing. In fact, Amul is one brand that has garnered immense love for their take on almost everything topical. Amongst new-age brands, we have seen the likes of Dunzo and Zomato churn out relatable, topical content time and again. So following this incident, will agencies need to be doubly careful about how they go about communicating on topical issues, when using the names and images of individuals? Sharing his view on the development, <keyword id="244384" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lloyd-Mathias">Lloyd Mathias</keyword>, Business Strategist and former Marketing Head of HP Asia, Motorola and PepsiCo India said, “Moment marketing is fantastic in itself and brands that have their own take on topical issues do get consumers attention. However, when a brand uses a specific individual and his/her achievements to gain commercial mileage without prior permission or getting into a contract with that individual, then it is unfair. Brands should display more maturity and seek permission from athletes or their agents before using them overtly or covertly.Most Indian sportspersons outside cricket could benefit from a brand association that may provide them support – that could be monetary, or in terms of exposure or facilities.” To ensure brands do not infringe upon the privacy of celebrities, the <keyword id="120108" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Advertising-Standards-Council-of-India">Advertising Standards Council of India</keyword> (ASCI) already has a code in place. The code says "Advertisements shall not, without permission from the person, firm or institution under reference, contain any reference to such person, which confers and unjustified advantage on the product advertised or tends to bring the person, firm or institute into ridicule or disrepute. If and when required to do so by ASCI, the advertiser and the advertising agency shall produce explicit permission from the person, firm or institution to which reference is made in the advertisement," and ads that do not comply with this requirement may be in violation of the ASCI Code. On how brands need to tread in situations like the current one, Manisha Kapoor, Secretary-General, ASCI said, “Brands need to be careful and calibrated about everything that goes into an ad, right from the visuals, the words, and the implication of their messaging. Advertisements are made with high involvement of strategic and creative resources, and it goes without saying that they must pay keen attention to aspects that can be challenged.” Moment marketing is all about coming up with relatable posts when something is making news and reaping the benefits of joining the trend. Agencies usually have very less time in which to churn out content that is relatable and shareable, which is possibly why a few miss out on checking on the legal aspects of putting up such posts. However, in the wake of this incident, agencies will need to be doubly careful, said <keyword id="11806503" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajni-Daswani">Rajni Daswani</keyword>, Director – Brand Experience, So Cheers. On how agencies can avoid getting into trouble, Daswani said, “Agencies should definitely educated themselves on what they are and aren’t allowed to do because if they are providing that service to their clients, it is their responsibility to cross checking at their end. Secondly, brands can simply be creative without using individual names, image .You want to be a part of the moment, but you also don't want to get stuck into the legal implications. There are a lot of creative, indirect ways to do it and the internet is full of people who understand such indirect references.” Sharing a similar thought, Manesh Swamy, Sr VP - Creative, Social, PR, Marcom, <keyword id="3900173" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Logicserve-Digital">Logicserve Digital</keyword> said, “The IPLs and the World Cups have stricter copyright laws and hence you don't see pictures of cricketers but victory silhouette poses in branded posts. The Golds and Silvers are still rare for us, so people and brands go a little overboard genuinely to celebrate the Olympic feat. If the brand is just celebrating these small moments of joy without selling anything, I guess it shouldn't be harmful. To ace moment marketing considering the current situation, the best move would be to do surrogate advertising and play with the essence of the moment.” On what could be a simpler way of getting around issues like this while also being a part of the moment, Sushant Vithaldas - Head of Business, Schbang Bengaluru said, "For the larger audience of viewers and consumers, it’s very difficult to distinguish between a direct association and a congratulatory post or show of support by a brand. Significant progress is being made in the way influencers endorse a product with callouts for “#PaidPartnerships” or #Ad. A simple fix like this that carries the words “#MomentMarketing” on such posts is a far more easier way to address the issue and let brands and marketeers celebrate the moment in its true spirit." So can this incident lead to the way moment marketing is done in the future? Sanjay Mehta, Joint CEO of Mirum India said, “For the time being, since ASCI has come down heavily on brands that used these stars without permission, other brands will be sensitive to this idea, and won't use any names if they don't have the rights. Just like brands have got tuned to not abuse the IPL property and the cricketers' rights and privileges. Considering that these non-cricket sports and the sportspeople do not get much visibility ordinarily, these controls will unfortunately, make them even less visible, and brands will not err to the side of caution. They may not even mention a wrestling hero or a woman golfer, for not knowing if they have any other brand engagements and could create conflicts! Moment marketing around events of this kind, will get constrained and may be limited to acknowledging the sport and not the star. These are challenging new areas to tread on, in the digital age, and reforms to these rules, so that guidelines have a reasonable balance, will emerge, ultimately.”

 "The focus will be on cross leveraging of assets. "The focus will be on investing in new, under leveraged categories by leveraging existing ones across countries," he told ET.

"We are going more global because there's very little happening in India in terms of acquisitions. We can be an enthusiastic buyer but there has to be a willing seller of size and repute, at valuations that are workable," Agrawal told ET. 
 According to data by researcher Nielsen, Santoor is the No 3 brand within soaps with a 9% share, after HUL's Lifebuoy and Lux, and followed by <keyword id="6488831" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dettol">Dettol</keyword> from <keyword id="73803" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reckitt-Benckiser">Reckitt Benckiser</keyword> and <keyword id="6369697" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Godrej">Godrej</keyword> Consumer Products' No 1.

New Delhi, Feb 19 () Wipro Lighting expects its smart products to account for 15 per cent of its total domestic lighting product sales in the next two years, said a company official. The company, which showcased a range of smart home products here, had made a foray into the segment in October 2018 and is strengthening its product portfolio by adding more items. Besides, Wipro Lighting, part of over USD 1-billion Wipro Consumer Care &amp; Lighting, also expects prices of its lighting solutions to go up by around 10 per cent from mid-March due to the outbreak of coronavirus in China, as the components supply has been impacted. "This fiscal, around 3 per cent of the total lighting sales would come from the smart lighting solution and we are expecting that by 2021-22, we should be close to around 15 per cent," Sanjay Gupta, senior vice-president and business head (consumer lighting and switches) at Wipro, told . Around 35 per cent of the India business of Wipro Consumer Care &amp; Lighting comes comes from the lighting segment. "We are also seeing sockets a big category and we are also confident on door bells. In the lighting, we would have more SKUs (stock-keeping units)," he said. Founded in 1945 as a vegetable oil company, Wipro Consumer Care &amp; Lighting has now presence in over 40 countries and get around 50 per cent of its business from the international market. Gupta further added that though 2019-20 was a "challenging year" as the real estate was under a slowdown and rural economy was under stress but Wipro had a high single-digit growth in the lighting segment, higher than the industry growth. "We are confident that 2020-21 would be much better year, as we are expecting that real estate would start recovering and there would be some recovery in overall economy also," he said. On being asked about the impact of novel coronavirus on the prices of lighting products, Gupta said, "As of now no, but in another one month, yes, it would be." The ₹1,398 crore initial public offering (IPO) will close on December 15. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of ₹600 crore worth of shares and an offer for sale of shares worth ₹798.29 crore by selling shareholders. 18 shareholders will be selling shares in the IPO including PI Opportunities fund, which is an affiliate of PremjiInvest. PremjiInvest is the family office of billionaire Azim Premji, founder chairman of Wipro. The company is India's second-largest pharmacy retailer in terms of the number of stores and revenue. It sells a wide range of pharmaceutical products and fast-moving consumer goods (FMGC), such as medicines, vitamins, medical devices, home, and personal care products, etc The grey market premium of the company’s shares were demanding a premium of ₹300 per share. From a long term growth perspective, we have a positive view on MedPlus,” said analysts at the broking firm. New Delhi, Apr 14 () Consumer electronics major Samsung India on Tuesday committed Rs 20 crore towards combating the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of its commitment, Samsung will donate Rs 15 crore to the PM-CARES Fund and Rs 5 crore to relief funds of state governments of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where it operates manufacturing units, the company said in a statement. Samsung is already providing support to the local administration and community in Noida by equipping hospitals with medical equipment required in the preventive drive against the pandemic along with infra-red thermometers, public addressal systems and air purifiers, it said. Samsung is also providing food packets to local communities in Noida on a daily basis. "In our continuous endeavour to support the fight against Covid-19, Samsung today pledged a contribution of Rs 20 crore to the Union and State governments in India. Samsung will be donating Rs 15 crore to the PM Cares Fund, and Rs 5 crore to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, to support the country's challenge against the pandemic," Samsung said. In addition, employees of the company across India are contributing a portion of their salaries. The company said it will match the employee contributions and donate the total amount to the PM-CARES Fund in the coming weeks. According to the latest report from the Union Health Ministry, the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 10,363, with the death toll at 339. Over the last few weeks, Samsung has also hastened deliveries of digital X-ray and digital ultrasound machines that it provides to government hospitals as part of its Samsung Smart Healthcare program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3 in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus infection. Meanwhile, in a BSE filing on Tuesday, OnMobile Global said it is contributing Rs 50 lakh from its CSR fund to the PM-CARES Fund. Corporate India has been rushing in to help the government and citizens fight the pandemic in India. Tata Trusts and Tata group together have pledged Rs 1,500 crore, while Wipro Ltd, Wipro Enterprises Ltd and Azim Premji Foundation have together committed Rs 1,125 crore.
